You know who u are, Im one of them myself lol. Beta Testing and that is what we have here Testing, is not for everyone. You want at the game so bad you tell yourself u can deal with the bugs and the wipes and all will be fine. But it's not to you.
Sometimes it's hard to face the truth about ourselfs so we don't and it go's from testing to rageing.

Im finding it odd how downright upset ppl are getting over a BETA at the end, this game will have changed so many times just look at what has been fixed and added so far. Sit back ppl and enjoy the ride, seems to be a bit rocky for some :)
As hard as it will be just wait til there is more of a game and not a test.

I think most of the issue is coming from people who purchased the game directly from steam and didn't read any of the information before hand. Its hard to inform people before hand if they don't read the information in front of them.

I'd say more of the issue is on Steam and the gaming community then Chucklefish. Everyone seems to think "Early Access" and "Beta" means "almost finished product just needing a little polish" as opposed to "skeletal form of game that still needs organs and skin to be a real game".

Steam really doesn't make clear the fact that if you buy from "Early Access" you are not ever ever buying a complete game. You're buying into a beta. It's like buying a book that's not finished and then complaining "This only has two chapters!" Yeah, you bought early access, not complete access. "Early Access" needs to be renamed to "Alpha/Beta Access" to make it really clear to people.

This would indeed help and maybe ppl would know going in. But alot seem to buy 1st and then are upset at what they have so far. I think ppl need to also understand that if it is hurting that much, it is ok to wait :)

It seems to be a popular thing lately to release a game as "beta" or open beta that's practically complete. I can understand people thinking that's what they'd get with Starbound, even with the use of terms like "early beta access" and "multiple save wipes". I figure the complaints will die down soon enough once people figure out that's not what's for sale, or else the game will move into 'stage 2' sooner or later and they'll be happy anyway.
edit: also I've heard the steam page wasn't using those terms, which would exacerbate things

People need to start to realize that games won't just make themselves, or that a programmer simply goes and <click> ta-da the game is now finished.
I get it that most AAA games won't show beta states, and that might be why most people don't even realize that there's a WHOLE process behind getting the game ready to launch...

Well, we can point them to the direction of threads about said info, show them the tweets put out by the devs, show them the streams of the devs, and show them the Reddit section that has other information that the forums may not have.

This is understandable. I was merely pointing out, in my post, where the uninformed people are coming from. Most of the time people want to get into the early access games on steam because it gives them access to a game. They don't see it as beta and sometimes don't understand what "Early Access" is and how it means this game could be in "Beta". I wish we had a better system to inform people in a massive way but that is difficult. I find myself constantly looking at information all of the time and seeking out how to better answer these thread with said info.

This times 1000. The Steam Store page for this game is delightfully upbeat and more than a bit misleading. They make the emphasis of Early Access about "community involvement" instead of being straightforward and saying "you're buying into a beta to invest in developers and help test". The reason they do that is because "youre buying a beta" isn't sexy, and it would have a negative impact on sales. It's disingenuous marketing and it's very much responsible for the "sticker shock" people are experiencing.

"Early Access" is when you preorder a game and you get to start playing 5 days before your friends. I did notice with the last patch the launcher added a line in red that basically said flat out that people should expect character wipes. While a great addition, that line should be on the Steam Store page in BIG BOLD LETTERS. But I somehow doubt it will be.
