This is how to fix the first boss, it's not about difficulty, it's about quest text.

I feel there's a huge amount of over exagerration regarding the difficulty of this boss.

Hosting a server with 2 of us, my friend had an Iron bow, I had a normal. Neither of us had any armor at all, a few deaths between us at first and we were able to kill it, no surrounding it in dirt or anything. Strafing and using cover when it does it's bombing run is all you need, does have an insane amount of health to nuke through though.

you build a upsuide down L before you spawn the boss, quite tall, then spawn the boss to the side of it and kite it under the walkway and wall it in. Not hard, but very lame.

It isn't just quest text, it is the entire presentation of the game.

    1) The quests should go on longer. The next quest should be to make an anvil, then a better weapon (which is very, very important early on), then some armor, then have them drill down for silver ore (and mention that the deeper they go, the better the ore gets, something I'm sure players are confused about)... THEN, maybe, have the beacon quest. And explain how to refuel your ship afterwards. Honestly, the way the quest was written, I thought that the point was you would get the fuel from the ship that you called down with the beacon.

    2) Most new players aren't going to attack the game viciously enough; that is to say, they aren't going to delve deep enough quickly enough and get stuck. The game should guide you towards mining to the point where you can get better equipment. It shouldn't linger for hours and hours and hours.

    3) The silver ore is not distinctive enough in appearance; it looks too much like stone does. I think this is why people are whining about not finding any silver ore - they can't SEE it, and of course assume it isn't there, not that they aren't looking carefully enough. Making it stand out more would help with this issue.

    4) I don't get what the purpose of the pixel death penalty is.

    5) As-is, there is zero point to disabling teleportation while underground, as you can just save and exit, and then rejoin, and you'll be back on your ship anyway. Given that disabling save and exit at any time would be severely bad, it is probably better just to allow teleportation whenever.

    6) The presentation of weapon damage and armor values makes no sense at all and is very deceptive. The damage values on the weapons should much more accurately reflect how much better they are; they look fractionally better than the base weapons, when in reality the crafted weapons are massively stronger. The same goes for the armor values, which presently don't seem to go up properly. If the armor value is averaged, it should instead be additive, and do any weird math you need to do on the back end. As-is, it is hard to tell what adding a piece of armor actually does.

You are aware that you are playing a game in beta?

You should realize that they want to establish a solid frame of a game first. With all game mechanics (like crafting, fighting and damage taking) in place. When they have done that and it has been thoroughly tested, they will go into phase 2. After that comes phase 3, and only then will they start to work on quests and so on...

Have a bit of patience and enjoy while they are working hard!

You do realize that the game is in beta, right, and therefore, they need this feedback to make it better?

The entire point of beta is getting feedback like this. "The game is confusing" is valuable feedback; if people don't know what the heck they can/are supposed to do, then that's a problem. If people can't find silver ore because it is hard to see, that's a problem. If the game doesn't direct people towards what they should be doing, that's a problem. Ect.

Don't complain about people giving feedback.

Ho buddy... relax. I am not complaining about people giving feedback. Don't take me wrong there.

Just explaining when the quest content would be coming, phase 3. Nothing more to it then that... keep giving feedback as much as you like!! :rainbow:

I agree with OP in the sense that the problem with the current boss would seem to be one of communication, rather than of difficulty. You're not meant to go after him in copper armour with a crappy weapon from the first planet, you're meant to take him on once you're geared up enough to take on a threat level 9 planet without worrying too much.

I do think they should make it more obvious what coal does and that you can explore other planets before the beacon boss. I had no clue until I read a post here and I was like 'D'oh?!'

Am I the only one, who killed that UFO solo? (on 2nd try though) Prepare with full silver armor, that Big Slicer Sword and about 40 bandages. Just make plain terrain and have patience. The penguins don't do much damage then.

But what's funny.. i didn't find out yet, how to refuel my ship :)

While I personally had no problems taking down the UFO Penguin boss with just my starting gear (and a cleverly-constructed boss arena), I do believe that there should be tutorial quests for planting and growing trees, collecting wood and coal to provide fuel for your ship, and upgrading your gear to iron tier, before starting the quest to build and use a distress beacon.

Except that, as the OP said, the game implies the next step after--whatever the last step had been, making an anvil or whatever, is summoning the penguins. The way it's all worded and the way the intro quests had worked so far imply that you -should- be able to take it on right then--imagine if the game'd told you to grab a hunting bow and get some meat and you'd found that all the enemies took twenty minutes to plink to death with the bow. Having a series of steps that are very short and direct and then another step that's a huge leap is completely counterintuitive.

OP has it exactly right. All that needs to be done is communicating that the penguin is for people who've mastered level 10 worlds, not people who've just built their first anvils.

I ended up killing him with a iron bow, and the 2nd boss with an iron bow, in my opinion he's too easy.

Oh yeah, forgot to suggest that we add in a quest to create a bed for players to use to rest before we go searching for stuff to make an anvil.

Having finally been able to get to the quest (had to DL client to Windows and play through quest chain that way) I'm even more convinced that the 'tutorial' line of quests ends far too abruptly - and doesn't set up that this boss is going to be a fairly tough opponent (especially now he's been patched to destroy blocks, so goodbye 'arena' building tactics).

I don't think a quest for creating a bed is necessary, but I definitely think a quest to create a spinning wheel and then craft some bandages should be part of the quest chain.

There absolutely has to be a punishment for failure, otherwise death is simply a teleport option.

I killed the UFO with one other person, but honestly it isn't terribly difficult to kill if you are fully geared up. Full suit of silver armor means you take only 10 damage per hit, and you can dodge most of the attacks fairly easily (the UFO crush attack can be a bit more troublesome). Even without cheesing the boss, it isn't terrifically difficult in full silver armor with a tier 5 weapon, though a higher tier weapon would (obviously) make it go faster - I didn't even leave the first planet before I killed the UFO. It is very doable.

Thing is... not really? I mean, you can already teleport out of any location anyway via Save & Quit.

The pixel penalty is considerable early on, when killing enemies (who are dangerous) is your main way of getting them. Then, later in the game, you're absolutely swimming in pixels and the penalty doesn't matter at all for the opposite reason - they're readily available. So the whole thing feels a bit pointless, because the pixel penalty either is really obnoxious (early) or negligible (anytime afterwards).

The main problem with the boss is simple tedium - if you fight him with the best craftable weapons you have available (level 5s), he takes ages to kill.
