This game sucks... it sucks up every single moment of my free time.

I love it, have loved each and every moment of the 91 hours I've logged thus far.

I'm sorry you're not enjoying it, though.

Huh I did not know that. I think I would have been okay with that. Better than them getting a bunch of people to play then those people turn their backs on them and don't give them the opportunity to make the game as great as it should be.

You know, with the current sale price of MC, Notch has made over 3 million? That's just from the game itself, not counting merch and other income.

I actually just finished the penguin fight and found it to be very reasonable with the new balance changes. I used full iron armor, an iron bow and a legendary drop I found with 10 DPS. Totally reasonable, used maybe 5-6 bandages throughout the fight.

Birds are definitely a pain. But I'm not getting ganked like pre-patch. Now we'll have to see how the Beta sector goes...

While OP posted in a terribly sarcastic and not at all constructive manner, I have to agree. As much fun as I personally am having playing the paid-for Beta, I think it was a terrible idea for the future interests of Starbound itself. People are stupid. You can't assume they'll read any of the disclosure's or notes or anything and just hope into a horribly bugged, horribly implemented Beta (as most Beta's are). Then they're going to go "dis game is teh suxxx 0/1000000 never buy wast of tyme lol" and be done with it. It's sad but that's the reality of the world we live in.

But because I enjoy slamming my head against brick walls, I suppose I'll answer. I think you made the right decision in stepping back and ceasing play until the game is more polished. I think you made a bad decision in posting vitriol here and claiming to know what everyone enjoys.

Now, time to sit back and relax.

Which is why the devs were afraid of doing a public beta, despite being pressured by players all the time to run one(with many people quoting minecraft's examples), because of that very possibility. As they'd more or less stated a long while ago.

OP and me don't share the same gaming style, obviously :) I'd be happy COMPLETELY strip-mining my first planet for every ore on it, building a gigantic tower and playing Wrong Way by Sublime at the top of said tower. I've never used a single coordinate, nor will I. I'd pay 15 bucks just for a game with all the wall/floor tiles and furniture this game has, and the whole point of the game is simply to decorate the inside of your spaceship (small as it currently is). I'm happy planting megafarms and collecting seed types and then hoarding produce. So far on my new guy I've got wedding dress bottom and a floral backpack (wearing both, feeling burly), and I'm happy collecting odd clothes. I'm actually PLEASED that the birds are currently deathmobiles in the sky. In my mind the only purpose the enemies even serve is to add a level of danger to my exploration/strip-mining/collecting trips. I could spend a year playing this game as it sits right now (if only my boss/dungeon/NPC/weather/sand and gravel lag would go away, anyway..), without ever leaving my first three planets. I'd like the ability to move liquids around, though :> Either way, this game is already way better than numerous commercial games I've paid out the pooper for, and its way better than a lot of other indie games I've paid less for. That it is still evolving before our eyes, is, to me, an honor to experience, and will end up giving me that nice nostalgic "Man, I was THERE, day 1. THERE, MAN. T-H-E-R-E. Like Woodstock, but with pixels.".

The problem is that Notch did it first.

Now people have built expectations, or rather have built their expectations not based on the Minecraft-that-was when it was extremely buggy and lacking in features left and right, but rather on the Minecraft that had been already polished for many years during it's own beta.

It's why every other early accesses are having difficulties. Because people are coming in, thinking about minecraft's successes and with expectations comparable to minecraft as it was when they jumped into it when it had already years of publically available work under it's belt, not the minecraft that was when it was just a glorified lego box creative mode without any single entities other than the players putting blocks around.

Those birds will make you feel like a bearded hero when you do finally get that anvil!

Anyway, its the whole "entitlement" thing, where people feel like they've paid a terrible price and now have FULL-ON ACCESS to all devs, all suggestions on which way the game should go, rights to bitterly complain when bugs occur, and to rant and rave when the game takes a turn they don't enjoy. I'm sure quite a few of us bought, or have played, Grand Theft Auto 5 (or Insert Commercial Game Title You've Played here), and I can't recall them ever asking me, or caring to ask me, if I had any good ideas on what should go into the game.

End of the day, devs don't owe us anything. They didn't force a single one of us to purchase, and they DO NOT have to acknowledge, much less publicly ask for, our input. They can remain fully silent and complete the backer-supported features, and then close the doors. Worst part is, I've seen a dev get spam-bombed by idiots Steam friend requesting the hell out of him after he busted his ass trying to patch things up for US. They've ran themselves ragged trying to please everyone and all they've earned is bags under their eyes and a lot more "entitlement" whiners.. whining more :p I've never seen a "speed-sculptor", or a speed-run on open heart surgery. If we want errors then we should just keep on whining, I guess. Best to peacefully supply detailed bug reports and suggestions (hell, maybe even check the forums via search to see if you're repeat-posting or not, even!), and peacefully keep your mouth shut unless something constructive AND polite is coming out of it.. Mods on this forum need to initiate a "BOO" button, and then investigate things we've boo'ed the hell out of, and end up banning people if it seems justified!

    *rant over*

..for now.. *evil laughter echoes away..*

In a way, yes it can be a bad idea. On the other hand, we all still chose to pay for this beta, with plenty of warning of its current state, the wipes, the balancing, etc. It's wishful thinking to imagine the game would be perfectly balanced and mostly bug-free in early beta, those who paid for early access should've known what they were getting into, or not bothered. The balancing drives me nuts at times, and I definitely find it easy to exploit coordinate lookups for OP gun sellers- but yet again, coordinate sharing is an intended feature. I can't really think of a good solution that might actually be doable, other than making the sellers move to random planets every once in a while, but even that sounds tricky to do. The beta is for bug reports, balance suggestions, content suggestions, potential exploits, etc. Help out or get out.

I should probably clarify my own remark. Some of the content of this post is actually pretty good. But, like many other posters who want lots of people to read what they have to say, the OP has made the title highly inflammatory and misleading from the actual content of the post. Hence my comment. Is the content a tad on the overly dramatic? Fo sho. But there are some valid points made.

I'm thinking at this point, I'd really like to see a dedicated forum for legitimate beta testing comments ONLY (meaning that they're required to be in a specified format) so that those of us who would like to get in and make a bug notation without having to skim thru bucketloads of redundant and vitriolic conversations can do so. I personally really like the game and am having loads of fun, despite some significant issues here and there. Some people just really should not be doing beta, and the OP may be one of them (no offense intended).

As to the last comment made by the OP, that's how I *always* play. When the new patch came out, I faithfully started over. When I discovered that some weapons were ludicrously OP, I noted the fact, deleted them, and played as if they didn't exist. In other words, I played as if I were a regular Joe starting for the first time. And I had fun. Loads of it. Though I have to admit those frakking birds had me going until I figured out a way to fight back.
