This game is just too f***ing hard

Hopefully if the devs ignoring this someone will make a mod that makes the game easier.

While i do agree that from a hardcore perspective such as myself, i enjoy the game with this degree of challenge however hopefully the Dev team will be able to implement different difficulty settings once the initial influx of bug reports, issues and other more pressing problems are attended to. Because let's face it, some people don't enjoy dying constantly and it can be quite disheartening so difficulty settings would make the game more approachable for both new players and the more casual audience.

But guess what? That's what we have this forum and a feedback option in the launcher for! :D

One thing I quickly learned is DON'T FIGHT MONSTERS AT NIGHT!
They are so much more stronger, it's ridiculous.
I also found a miniboss and killed with the bow because he was too stupid to jump over my fence, he then dropped a really badass axe with an ignite effect. But that was very random, without the fence that thing would have obliterated me :D

Anyway, I am pretty sure that the game still needs a lot of optimization and balancing, only time will show how drastic they have to be, so I wouldn't jump to conclusions that early.

I shot for about 10min on the bos from a pre-build safe fortress-like position, and he only lost about 1/10 of his health bar - something is broken there i guess, was using my iron bow (2nd one)... Also the little bazooka penguins tend to kill you with the rocket blast radius even if you are behind a wall..

But i am ok with the overall difficulty - i mean this game is out for 1 (ONE!) day and you guys already complain about common enemies .. first try to learn and understand the game, before running into the forums, cry around. Seriously.. what do you want? Beat the game in 2 hours? Use melee weapons - they deal alot more damage than ranged weapons - nevertheless the second bow (iron) oneshots most enemies on starting planet. Even cleared the first dungeon with it with ease.

Well, I disagree with OP. I'm not a hardcore gamer, been playing SB for a 3,5 hours by now, and not died even once. Sure, approaching monsters early game require some caution, but hey, it should be this way if you have equipment of same tier as enemies! Game would be boring if you could explore whole new worlds without getting proper equipment and without sense of danger that should be associated with exploring new alien places...

That's kind of funny, because within literally about 4 hours, I had almost a full set of Silver Armor, and 3 green daggers that did a ton of damage.

Oh, and also I raided 2 dungeons. One Apex, one Avian. I'm now holding at least 10,000 pixels worth of items in my ship's storage containers.

(That being said, if my progress even saved)

ALSO. You can store your pixels in a way.. Just not in the way you think, buddy.

Dark bound ...:D but now speaking seriously the difficulty is somewhat intense, but not that OH MY GOOOD style of difficulty, and i think the game needs just something to cure you that is cheap on material and can be found easy
(sorry if the writing is a little strange, i'm not 100% english speaker you know)

For the most part, I find the difficulty "tolerable".

The only annoying thing is the low-level badies' speed...are they on crack or something ? Even Metroid's Space Pirates are not that fast ><...actually no enemy is in that game but whatever.

Also, one thing that pains me is the terrifying amount of pixels it needs to craft anything past copper. I mean, seriously, it's low level stuff. I can't imagine how much will cost the T3 stuff later in development, hope the level curve will be refined till there :p

I just got done playing for a while. I found it to be too brutal for my liking and the pacing to be extremely slow and boring. If I have to sit there in the begining spending 20+ seconds to cut one tree or mine one square of cobblestone I feel like I'm wasting my time playing the game. Since I'm instructed to go to the surface, to hunt food and craft things that's what I did. And died a million times and never got any meat to cook from any of the monsters I killed. I have to get a bunch of cobblestone to make a furnace but I really don't feel like sitting there to mine the stuff to make it.

It's a fun game and I've been wanting a space game like this for a long time, but I sure hope there will be different difficulty modes for those of us that don't have all of the time in the world to get anywhere in the game.

If this isn't what I'm supposed to be doing then things need to be conveyed a bit differently at the start.

For some reason my anvil isn't listing armors above silver... what am I doing wrong? I've long since found gold.

Have you tried to sort stuff by rarity ? With the little color dots up the craft list. Gold stuff might be listed as green. Also, it's possible that your armor requires a blueprint before.

How do I find blueprints anyway? I harvested mushrooms and that added a blueprint for blocks... but how am I gonna get gold armor out of this?

Blueprints for items come from chests as far as I know. I found the blueprints for eye table, eye helmet and eye chest on a planet with eyeball trees.

    Easier!? Really?

That's your knee-jerk reaction to dying in a game? Bit of a generational divide going on here.

Try learning from your deaths instead of just facerolling over and over again and wondering why the same things keep happening.

I know what I'm about to say may seem an alien concept to you, but try developing a strategy. Try to identify the weakness your opponent is exploiting, then use your brain to develop countermeasures. Perhaps you might feel a sense of achievement from something other than shiny purple things you just got for pressing 1234 in some kind of pattern you probably read in a guide.

It's not much harder than that though, in truth.

I love how hard Starbound is.
As TB somewhere said, modern trend is to make games as easy for player as possible and really hard & challenging game in these times is pretty rare.

Look at all those guys who played the game for one day and call it hard :D I died only 2 times, one time from fall damage because my fps made me do it, and the other because I glitched in terrain and was shot to death. I never died of my own mistakes, it's really easy!

Think before you act, craft better gear, carry bandages to heal. Game is not even hard guys... it really is not!

But I also agree, that we should be able to store pixels. It's a little they just dissapear after you die. You should at least be able to come back and get them.

It was hard at first for me too. Then I realized that you could craft weapons that are a higher level with an iron anvil and 10 iron bars. Now I'm one hitting everything on my starting planet. Time to move on to a higher level planet!

You literally have to do that with first couple of trees and stone, then you just craft better tools and it is SO MUCH FASTER! Didn't you play any exploration/survival game before?

You can't expect to be good at the game you are playing for the first time. But you can't also reinvent the entire genre! Devs can't just make the game easier and faster because one or two people don't like the idea of slow progress. If you could ltierally blow dozens of blocks from the start, you would blast through entire game in 2 days. It's nonsensical. I am 100% sure, that the majority of players came from terraria like I did, so we expected this kind of difficulty. No, we didn't expect it, we WANTED IT!

Also, hunting monsters is very easy, as long as you don't do anything stupid. You can hunt for peaceful monsters with your bow (or else you don't get meat!) and they shouldn't be able to reach you. I literally jumped over them as they charged me... IT's really easy if you figure it out.

Also, when you get iron hunting bow and iron weapons, you will be literally one0shoting weaker monsters for 100 damage and kill level 5 with few blows.

Carry bandages to heal up. Make them from plant fibres, they are very easy to obtain!

See? I bet you didn't know half of that stuff. Life is easier if you learn the game. I guess you aren't used to this kind of game, where you are literally powerless at the start but with some work you can get better really quickly.

If some other guy could mine faster, kill easier and make better progress over me just because he is lazy, it would make no sense.
