I may have mentioned this before, but I actually think the slower pacing is actually something the game benefits from. One of the things contributing to it is, of course, the chance of dying. Patience, planning and methodic actions make you far more likely to survive, though - as they should, in a survival game.

I like the difficulty, they could do with adjusting the pixel requirements for the lower tiers of armors though, and also a way to store pixels.... unless i missed that...

also KEEP THE COLD PLANETS AS HARD AS THEY ARE.. just give us more ways to fight the cold, some of us like the challenge.

Most likely heightened requirements because of the lack of content currently functioning correctly. Would give an artificial padding to buy time for incoming patches.

I whole-hardheartedly agree. I have no idea how or even why people are trying to 'win' a survival sandbox game.

This game isn't really that hard. I have died 6 times during my entire play through for 6 hours, and 5 of them were from falling in pits i made. I have full silver and I find everything not really all that lethal or anything. I also made two characters just to see if my first generated world was just overly hard....and nah it was equally easy.

Gets easy once you get iron flowing in.

I myself moved to a threat 4 planet while wearing copper and I did fine, though I did have to rely on my iron hunting bow since it was out-DPSing my starter weapon. Now I'm extremely deep in a cave on the same planet decked in full iron with a better weapon. If I want to go deeper though, I'm gonna need another armor upgrade.

My advice is: Get an iron bow, that thing packs a huge punch and should keep you set till iron/silver+ becomes more commonplace.

IT seems like people want them to lower the difficutly because it's hard to progress, but if it's easy to progress, can you really call it progress?

Games that are hard, are just fun to play, atleast for me, difficulty = achievements to progress.

They'll be nerfing that iron bow soon ;D
I've not seen one chest in 8 hours of play and two worlds, on my first world I never saw one iron ore, Don't say mine to the bottom been there I found an ancient building down there with pixel pills everywhere, I wore out my stone pick, at least I found enough copper and silver to sink a ship but with no iron ore, its a little hard to make anything worth while.

I agree with the OP of this thread, While I know their are many super players that for the life of them can't understand why everyone isn't as good as they are. And long ago I was one of those, but unlike the one claiming to be an old player and its easy for them for, me its way over my head, but I have real life issues that make using a bow in this game nearly impossible for me, but I'm sure by release we will have a selection of hard core normal and easy or something like that.

  8. We're not super players, we're just players.

edit: and I'm sorry you have real life circumstances that make the bow harder to use, but you can always grow crops too! It's more self-sustainable. =]

So instead of focusing on conquering one planet, we skim our meals in order to build up our strength in order to thrive on these planets. Seems doable, although the guards seemed intimidating; my first encounter with civilization is with a crazy cultist who installed sawblades in his metallic house. I didn't even dare to go in there; I just looted the chest from the outside, a feature that might get patched later.

MY Hime does not want to eat bread.. but I do farm its was very slow for me at first. but I'm finally up to a whole 7 wheat seed. lol..
Why do so many claim to get so much wood , I paid very close attention you get only 3 logs from most trees rarely 4 will drop. did you know you can fly your ship with no fuel at all.
I saw some one acidentially warp out of orbit with no fuel at all ..
You don't have to be sorry. but thanks. I'm just pointing out not everyone here is a spot on shot. for a tutorial it is way out of balance for an average player. The problem is even the better players either think they are just average or They want to gloat about it.. by seeing many others fail.. but when many fail there are few sales.. Some one who's played the game for 2 years, forgets the beginning.

Difficulty tends to bounce up and down a lot. It's kind of twitchy. It's bounces between being killed too quickly to killing enemies too quickly.

Am I the only one here who actually LIKES the difficulty?
I mean, I die alot, but that's just because of bad mistakes.
But then I come back and kite/dodge better.

Remember.. What kills you makes you stronger! ^.^

And don't go exploring without a truckload of bandages.

Has anyone taken into account this is only Beta? I mean.. If you look at your character selection, the mode says ??? which I can only assume is the difficulty. I'm sure they have other ones, easy/normal/hard/etc. Just take a step back, play for what it's worth, and remember your characters are getting whipped anyways. If anything, ask one of the devs if there will be other difficulties past beta. They have FAQs and Q&As up for a reason.

It isn't too hard, at least for me. Just learn from your mistakes and you'll be fine. Remember, the monsters get tougher at night, so don't go out unless you're prepared. Don't stand there like a dummy like you do in Terraria, you have to dodge. Remember you can duck as well. Carry bandages, they're made by gathering plant fiber, found on vines and other sources. Take the plant fiber, and use the Yarn Spinner to craft Fabric, then turn the fabric into Bandages. Also, Red Stim-Packs regenerate you, and sleeping is a very slow way to regenerate health.

Also, take it slow. The game isn't kidding about Threat Levels, just one increase in Threat level is enough to get your butt kicked. Don't go into Threat Level 3 planets in Copper Armor, for example, it's a huge leap in difficulty.

I really don't want to see the game nerfed because some folks are having a hard time, I actually enjoy the challenge, and it gets easier once you stop making dumb mistakes.
As for the crafting costing Pixels, please don't remove this Chucklefish. I actually love that crafting costs "money", it gives me something to spend my money on, unlike Terraria where it just piled up. I enjoy the death penalty too, keeps you on your toes.

    Checklist for Survival:
Learn to dodge, remember you can duck (good for dodging the leaping monsters).
    Bandages.
Your starting weapon is awful, replace as soon as possible. Your very first weapon upgrade from the basic Anvil will most likely one-shot almost all monsters on your starting planet, you will RULE this place if you get it. Get it before armor.
If anyone wants more advice, PM me. I'm more than happy to help!

Am i the only one that actually enjoys the brutal difficulty? it feels satisfying once you get a good weapon and can just plow through those enemies that gave you hell earlier.

after reading through some comments about first boss and stuff.
i guess some stuff need small difficulty tweaks but other than that keeping the challenge would be nice.
anyone could defeat first boss with iron gear without trapping?
