This game is just too f***ing hard

The game just came out almost 12 hours ago, the beginning is always the hardest in these kinds of games. In a few weeks the game is going to become very easy with all the weapons, techs, and gear we're going to have.

Oh please. I've never played Terraria, I just found out about this game a week ago, and I am having barely any trouble.

It's not too hard. I've died a lot, but I am getting better. I was thinking that the death penalty is a bit too lenient, actually.

Please don't ruin the challenge by complaining.

How is the death penalty lenient? you're kidding me? losing like half your pixels is not bad enough? you can't progress in this game without pixels and this hardly complaining. the inability to store your pixels and the fact the bow doesn't drop pixels on monsters is just absolutely ridiculous.

once you get the iron hunting bow and a level 5 melee weapon the game becomes easyer

that is intill the boss comes cus hes imposable

Yeah loosing money really ain't to bad, they should make you loose more but drop some, makes sense that the cloning machine requires sumthing to function. And hey pixels are the building block of everything in the game.
    Melee smashes them into pixels
Bow kills them without destroying the body, yay food.
Has some sort of logic to it

@AllenKS maybe because most people don't even understand how the fuel system works. It is kinda expected in an "exploration/mining" game that mining would get you somewhere. But if you don't go after the chests and visit other planets, you're stuck (progression-wise) for a long time.

I honestly didn't even know wood/coal could be used as fuel until I read it in the forums. There is no reference for learning right now, no wikis, no tutorials in game. Spending 30-40 minutes in a forum is not something the average guy is willing to do just to learn basic concepts.

You obviously never played Terraria on Mediumcore or Hardcore mode.
Try losing half your items on death, or a permanent character death upon losing all health.
Make an iron sword and farm level 1 and 2 mobs for a while to make up your losses.
Better yet, make a 1-handed sword and look for npc villages to raid for an easy shield.

I have to agree, the difficulty is just silly. You can only get meat from enemies killed with a bow, but the bow has to be charged and the enemies move insanely fast and hit you really hard, so even if you get lucky and actually manage to hit the enemy, you're dead long before you can kill it. Things like this are a deal-breaker for me, sorry to say. I get that it's supposed to be part survival game, but so's Terraria, and the difficulty curve in that game is perfect imho.

I think the real problem here is that the tutorial needs to let players know that a bow, while cool and all for hunting meat, is shit for killing things, and that a weapon would be a very good thing to build early on, instead of tooling around with armor and such.

I have to say it takes a lot more caution in this game than in, say, Terraria. But the monsters aren't that hard to deal with...and honestly, death is cheap enough right now that you really don't need to worry that much about it either.

Why are you people so intent on getting the game dumbed down? It's built to take time to get through. This is -not- Terraria. Weapons of equal level to creatures will take 3-5 hits to kill, not insta-killing them as some people may expect for some odd reason.

I definitely will agree with you there that the game isn't explained enough. This has been the topic of several threads.

But yeah, you gotta get out there. 5 trees give you like 200 wood, 200 wood gives you 200 fuel, 200 fuel should be enough to get to any planet in the neighboring solar systems, if you pick a tiny level 1 planet, the monsters are absolutely nothing, and the surface gives plenty of chests, and iron ore, once you have the iron bow, start digging down into planets for the silver/iron, and the occasional chest. The rest should be a piece of cake.

You might even find some towns and stuff, and those have chests with some wonderful loot in there. Raided 2 Avian towns and a Bandit Camp and came out with like 10 silver/gold/platinum, weapons, and like 2k pixels.

The devs need to fix the quests up so that they tell you how the fuel system works, and nudge you into the mind frame of planet hopping.

I think people sometimes forget that the game is not just pixel art for aesthetics. Everything is LITERALLY made of squares.

But, yeah. I like the game's difficulty, but 300 pixels for a new sword? That's like if crafting a gold sword in terraria costed 2 golden coins.

I think it would be cool if the amount of pixels something took to make was the same as the number of pixels in the sprite.

I like the difficulty, personally. If you're dying a lot you probably don't have good enough gear (which is easily solved by digging down) or aren't making bandages.

I've been around about 6 planets so far. The only village I found was the only reason why I have iron weapons (due to pixels) and that barely was enough. And it's costing me 300 fuel per planet jump so I don't know why your getting a much lower fuel cost.

I myself have played only an hour, I find that the monsters are extremely predictable and they don't even get close to me. I've also been in an Avian themed dungeon and the only thing that killed me there is falling into traps because of the dark sometimes. Haven't gotten that far into the game so I can't tell exactly how hard it will be, but I do hope they don't turn the game into a cake walk from all these complaints.

It is not that hard. You just need to try and think.

Not sure if it's my luck but I found an Avian dungeon like 50 steps away from my spawn location at my first planet, I found plenty of awesome weapons that just 1-hit anything that tried to come at me. They have some cool abilities aside from wrecking things in 1 hit such as firing out a ball of air that knocks them away and deals damage.

The only thing I want taken out is that crafting costs pixels. That's bullshit. I raided an Avian dungeon and got 3000 pixels. Died a few times. Back to 500.

That "5 solar systems on 200 fuel" was just hyperbole demonstrating the fact that 200 fuel is easy to come by.

Yeah it takes about 200-300 fuel to go to a new planet, but that's a couple of trees. Trees give like 40 wood per, or something of that nature. It's really not hard at all unless you're jumping to ocean or desert planets or something. Even then, I'm sure you can find coal, that stuff is everywhere...
