This game is just too f***ing hard

It's very fun to play, but wearing full copper armor (which was super grueling to get through the immense amount of dying and no way to save your pixels) and I'm still getting 3 shot by a damn bird that takes 4 hits with a sword and like 6-8 with a bow is just downright retarded.

Really, I'd live with the difficulty, cuz I do find difficult games fun, however, losing your pixels with no other alternative is absurd. Pixels are the most valuable thing in the game, apparently, because for some damn reason we need them to actually make gear. (makes sense...not)

I wouldn't word it just that way, but for the most part I agree. Definitely needs tweaking.

Agreed, cause holy crap, pretty sure I have never died this many times at the start of any game. It seriously lowers my motivation to try to get the killing blow with a hunting bow for meat, too, cause I get killed so easily. Severe tweaking is very much needed.

I dont quite understand. I find it difficult, but Im having a lot of fun due to it being difficult. Quite frankly, Im tired of games I can walk through in a day and as of late I dont play any games at any difficulty under the most extreme. I really dont see the game as being that hard. Make some bandages to heal and dont just rush into battle..

Get rid of the pixel requirement for basic armors. Pixels should come later in the game imo. The difficulty definitely needs tweaking

Craft an Iron bow, it'll 1 shot the bird. Things get quite a bit easier with Iron equipment.

Agreed. I'm used to hardcore games like this, and enjoy them, but the difficulty from finding ores, to actually killing enemies is a bit to rough for new players. I found the learning curve of Starbound to steep like it's mountains. It takes to f##king long to get through.

If I spent this amount of time in Terraria, I'd be in hell already. Yet I'm not even past threat level 4.

    I second this.

I have to agree the pixel requirement for early armors and weapons is pretty insane, but I don't know about the game play itself as I've only died three times with two of those times being from my own mistakes.

I agree with OP that this game is unnescessarily hardcore. I've been grinding all day and i'm still only at the iron helmet/greaves and a silver chestpiece, and a sword or two, and i'm still getting whipped by level 7 stuff. Most of the attacks you encounter can be blocked if you have a good shield (raid an avian village, they have these great bluish shields) but aside from combat it's immensely frustrating when you're attempting to find ores with a meager stone pickaxe and there are next to no healing items available.

    My advice to the OP
-Make a yarn spinner or whatever they're called, gather plant fiber, and make bandages.
-If you can't get the resources you want, cut down a lot of trees and use them as ship fuel to find another planet that is more suitable. I've been hopping for the past few hours because I opersonally can't find a planet that i like.

And another, guys, stock up before you fight that ufo boss. It's rediculously hard to beat him even with "good" gear. I only managed to ALMOST (the game crashed when he was at 1/8hp) beat him by taking cover under a concrete block and peeking out to fire every few seconds with an iron bow.

I went deep underground, got billions of iron, got some wood, went to a tiny level 1 planet, raided all of the iron there, made an anvil, made an iron bow, and some copper equipment. Planet levels 1-4 are now cake walks...

Just need more pixels now to make the iron level equipment.

Weapons before armor. Doesn't matter how much armor you have if you're 1-shotting stuff from across the screen bro.

I like the difficulty for the most part, however, I'm still on the starter world and I've only seen level 4 creatures. It would be much improved if they made basic armor not cost pixels and be easy to produce. And the different rewards for killing things with different weapons is kinda strange too.. And some very slow basic health regeneration would be nice.

please dont make this easy. Its refreshing to actually die.

At the least they should leave in options for difficulty

alright, i agree, the iron bow does make the game a little less annoying, however, if i die one more time i'm going to break my monitor.

i'm sick of going from like 700 pixels to 500 to 300 each time i die.

^But it still takes a shit ton of pixels to make anything. That needs to be nerfed or (imo) removed. I don't get why I need to spend money to use a forge I made to craft ores I mined on a barren planet...

Bows need to charge/load up faster. I find it takes way too long to shoot an arrow that doesn't just flop. It takes like 1.5 seconds to get a decent straight flying arrow and by then most monsters are on top of you. You have to use stupid tricks and ambush monsters to get the upperhand.

I've got to say, I definitely disagree with a lot of what people are saying about the difficulty. I haven't progressed past the first planet, but I seriously don't intend to until I've rinsed the first one for all its worth, and I can't say that it's overly difficult; and thats with not being able to use a bow. (Mac player = using a bow crashes the game).

The one thing I do agree with though, is that the pixel requirement for the basic armours is a little steep. I mean, its nothing you can't cope with after a bit of farming, but I can imagine if things keep scaling up, after a while there'll be massive grinds trying to save for new stuff, and that's not particularly fun- but I am definitely not saying things should be handed out for free. Keep some pixel requirement, but just a little bit lower than currently is my vote.

I completely disagree on all accounts. I find the difficulty refreshing, and really not *that* hard once you get used to things.

I think the real problem is that people are playing this like they played Terraria, etc... and it *is not* those games. Adjust your gameplay style, learn how Starbound AI/weapons handle, and don't jump to such a ridiculous conclusion when you've played less than 24 hours of it. If you do, you will survive much more easily. Dumbing down difficulty in this era of gaming is pathetic, considering everything except rogue-likes are boring-level easy for the most amateur of gamers. Maybe it's time to lay off the mobile games and actually try to get better, instead of complaining and ruining it for the rest of us.

If they add in a difficulty option, fine. But Chucklefish: PLEASE don't make it easymode for those of us that actually enjoy the challenge.

I think the main problem is some of you are playing the game like it's Terraria or something. Hop around planets. You can walk around the tiny planets easily, raid those planets treasure chests, the stuff in them can be pretty bad ass, find caves, dig down, grab all the ores and pixel containers.

The whole galaxy is filled with loot, go out there and take that shit. You can hop like 5 solar systems on 200 fuel.

I haven't had trouble since my very first planet once I adopted this method.
