The ore thing is gonna be changed it says that in the patch notes. There won't be diamonds and platinum everywhere in the early tiers.

Thats great. With the simple removing of higher tier ore from low planets will fix the coal situation because there will be higher chances of it spawning.
if they fix birds and lower enemy spawns in the beginning planet then all my gripes with the current build will be gone.

I actually feel the game has become a bit more easy now.
I got a hold of my gold pickaxe in 2/3 hours already got a tech, almost silver armour, and could solo the boss.

after testing for a bit the only thing that REALLY drives me nuts in the last 2 updates is the fall damage thing , I'm quite sure i turned into a puff of smoke just from tripping over a 2 doors high ledge lol
it's like sometimes it's ok and sometimes it's like you're accelerating into the floor and *poof*

Funny, people said Minecraft would always be a niche title as well, we see where that has gone. No seriously, when MC first started out it was pretty bad, had a list of bugs long then the code I think. But it's turned into a decent game, which multiple modes, and most people get along just fine, sure you get the same hate and discontent, but let's face it. This is the internet, you'll ALWAYS have hate and discontent, I don't think it's possible to eliminate it completely without just removing yourself from the internet. Minecraft has done a lot right, but to be honest? The thing that makes Minecraft is it's modding community. Game to hard? Dirt to diamonds, game to easy? Reduced crafting recipes, game to green? Throw a stone, hit 30 texture packs. I think Starbound will wind up the same way, except with a better base gameplay then Minecraft, we just have to get to that point you know?

Absolutely nothing. It's just boring, which means I (and others like me) leave long before you ever reach a compatible level, which ALSO damages the community.
The idea is to find a balance that allows inexperienced players to reach a point that they can progress into areas that "skilled" players are in, so we're all one happy skilled community.

The main thing I come away with reading this thread is just how important getting the iron bow is. Best hope you're on an accommodating planet or you're gonna have a hard time.

There isn't anything "hardcore" about Starbound. As a rather experienced gamer myself I can honestly say this game is nowhere near "hardcore", it's just vague as hell. It doesn't do much to actually explain anything to you at the moment. That's like giving the keys to your car to your 12 year old son, looking him in the eyes and saying, "What? Too hardcore for you? git gud, literal son. Only reason you're crashing into things is clearly because driving is just WAY too hardcore."

Except it's not about skill. Or talent. Or practice. Or hard work and dedication.

It's supposed to be about fun.

Starbound theoretically shouldn't be any more hardcore judging by the way it's been advertised. (exploration, creation, variety, immersion) None of these factors speak of difficulty.

That's because a set in stone difficulty is not a marketing point, but rather something that excludes people.

As a new player, I guess that is the right thread to share my experience from the first two hours of playing. I tried as good as I could to fulfill the quest (or rather tutorial). After finding a tree I finally could create a workbench and a bow. But that was it. After that there were no trees left it seems.

I died constantly. I mean of course, as a new player I have bad weapons. I understand that. Its part of the game. Enemies often came in packs of 2 or 3 (like 2 ground, 1 air). I had to fight what felt like armies of enemies. I think I didnt even fight that bad but there is only so much you can do with what you got. Without wood I couldn't reach any goals. I changed to other planets but had the same problem there (especially on a snow planet, where u can't run for too log before freezing to death).

On one planet, after a lot of fighting, I finally made it to another tree. Low on health and without any bandages a bird killed me quickly before I could do anything.

Long story short, the lack of wood made it impossible for me to advance and after two hours I was very frustrated and gave up.

See, that's an issue of your luck being terrible, because on every run I've done, trees were literally everywhere. Jungles and Forests are best for wood and bandages, and given the current state of the game, you're going to need a LOT of bandages.

Just wait a few days. i'm assuming they are planning on readjusting the difficulty of starter planets. The game is very punishing to new players and veterans alike right now so don't feel to discouraged. After the first hurdle is jumped you'll have a lot more fun with it.

Bandages really need to be added into the tutorial quest. The first 5 hours of me playing I was sleeping in a bed and going afk to heal. Once I learrned plant fibers could make bandages the first things I've done on characters is farm 20+ bandages and use them every time I take damage. Things like these are extremely important for these type of games.

I agree almost completely. I'm not a beginner in any sense and I have thoroughly enjoyed Terraria and Minecraft and various other games like Starbound however this most recent patch has made it somewhat difficult to get anything done as a result of many many deaths. The loss of pixels then makes it incredibly hard to build anything of importance and therefore limits to how far you can go in this game. Don't get me wrong, this is still a fantastic game and this won't stop me from playing but i just think it is unnecessarily hard with the current patch. Everyday monsters, especially those stupid god damn flying ones that can see you from miles away and spew blood or whatever onto you, don't need to be so difficult to defeat. It can make it very difficult to explore the various planets. I haven't had any issue with the bosses, they are tough but they are tough in the right way and that's when you get ya friends altogether and take it down as a group.

I found it easier to start than the version version :$

Chop a tree, mine some stones

Build a workbench, and pickaxe and an axe

Start digging down for iron and vines

Build a bow, the upgrade to iron bow

One hit everything in the world
