This game already looks pretty beta...

I'm going to have to disagree with the OP, I, in my opinion, do not think the game is even close to being at a late-beta stage. Now, I arrived at this thought from my observations of the live streams, the week that Bart started streaming, I watched the game crash again and again while he was trying to fix the issues in the code, heck it also happened with Tiy and Kyren too. Another thing that I don’t believe any one brought up yet is that they just now finished the Avian intro, that leaves six more they have to make, and I don’t even know how long it took them to make it.

We also have this other item I would like to note on is that the game may look a lot more finished because the main art assets are already done, the game already looks polished enough to be a completed game when it isn’t. Now we do know that the game has been in a closed early-beta for quite some time and I believe from that is why we’ve all seen an influx of activity from the devs.

I do want to touch on one last thing, just because most of us have spent money on this game, does not mean we have any right to demand anything from the devs, other than what we paid for. We’ve paid for the beta that isn’t ready yet, the full game which isn’t ready yet, and the soundtrack which also isn’t completed, that’s it, nothing more (unless you paid for the other items) nothing less

 

You just want beta to be released tomorrow. We can't argue with you.

If we are going being realistic here, it'll more than likely be August or September when the Beta comes out.

Well it looks like the beta will be out at the end of summer/fall. They are giving an exclusive preview on the 23rd of August so....

Starbound is aiming for a release by July. If it doesn't launch then, Terraria 1.2 is coming out soon. So you can just play that until release.

Terraria was supposed to be released last month. Looks like that didn't happen.

For you people arguing that it looks "beta enough", come back when you've developed a game and know what the heck you're talking about.

 

I hate to be all dictionary.com about this, but if they're still working on adding major features, no matter how polished or complete the game appears to be, it's still in alpha. Beta phases are traditionally bug hunts, with few if any major features or content to be added.

I think games like mechwarrior online and minecraft have blurred our collective concept of what is "beta." Minecraft for arguably being done for months before Notch & Mojang finally decided to call it done (with so much content being added on a regular basis it could be argued that minecraft never really transitioned from beta to release, whereas alpha minecraft to it's beta phase was much more obvious). And MWO is shamelessly still in alpha, despite what they claim, with features being added on a monthly basis and game play constantly being (sometimes drastically) tweaked.

 

Im not a moderator, but i feel like i should give a friendly advice here...

asking rhetorical questions about the need of more threads within this subject won't help solving the problem at all. i agree that threads concerning beta release dates are overpopulating this forum, but if the OP wants to know, he has the right to ask it, and it's up to moderators to decide if the thread is useful or not, by locking/deleting it or not!

on the other hand, insulting other users' avatars should be avoided, since those kind of comments aren't useful, doesn't relate to the topic and may be considered the attitude of a jerk, and all of these go against the forum rules.

so let's please keep it clean

 

Dammit, will you guys stop arguing? This should of died a long time ago, now everything is getting way off topic. This thread really needs to be locked, now people are insulting for over what? One small little thing a guy wanted to know.

 

I think everyone needs to take a step back on these forums and say do I really need to defend the devs when they have pretty damn good forum mods. Then ask themselves am I even contributing to this thread in anyway with relevant facts etc(or at least humor). THENNNNN be peaceful and not say negative Time to unfollow thread good luck.

I don't really know how you can say this when the devs call it closed beta what they are playing... and also not seeing a large chunk of the game they have yet to reveal/stream or anything because "spoilers" so.

 

Its just that oftentime, the mods encourage people to search the forum first to see if the topic has already being discussed/find an ongoing thread on the topic. So making more threads of it seems detrimental and a needless burden on the mod's job.
But its okay, i wasent trying to be mean.
