I have never played UO (and the idea sounds about as appealing as performing open-heart surgery on myself without anesthesia), so no. Sorry. :p

I find the elitism about everything here to be stifling at times, and try to stay out of those threads.
Sadly, it's not just about the difficulty but about headcanon lore, theories, basically anything since there's so little hard information about the game out so early in beta.
I mean, I enjoy the sometimes tough aspects of the game, but if the obviously broken parts aren't fixed because "l33t g4m3rz" are ignoring it and just repeating their gitgud mantra, then almost nobody is going to want to play the game.

    +1 for you, good sir.

I am not sure they are the more vocal group but rather because they are rude/dismissive they stand out more and you remember that longer. It has more impact.

There are tons of people who are helping out. I can think of many official boards for games filled with much more venom than this one.

From what I've noticed, the people who rage and rant usually stick to General and ignore the subforums.
But that's just my observation, I could be wrong.

Unfortunately. It got completely buried without any views. I think I'm going to start creating ridiculous title names just for attention >.>

I think the better idea would be making the ToS a little more strict, since that would kind of cover all the bases instead of just pushing all of the hate into one corner.

I think that the hostility towards people thinking stuff about the backstories and stuff is really stupid, since ideas that get popular could become canon in some way.

The problem comes when someone has a bad experience with the game, comes straight to the forums and makes a "this is the worst game evaAAA!!" , "tooo haaaard", "well, I'm not playing this...", "psa: stop being dicks hardcore people!" , " this game is a failure to be honest" thread title, and proceeds to NOT give constructive feedback, but just complain about random things. That then causes a reaction from the "hardcore" people as you so put it (btw, you're NOT helping with this thread) who then respond with varying degrees of "ltp noob" , "gtfo then", "this game is too easy now" etc.

Meanwhile there is a large amount of people who are really enjoying the game and are trying to give feedback in these threads, but it's difficult, as the threads that are popular have very extreme titles and opinions in them. All in all, it's a frustrating situation, which could be helped if people would stop and think before they post (both sides).

It's times like this that I wish there was a more effective way of contacting the forum mods other than sending a private message and hope they respond. I really think a Q&A subforum would be good. Possibly move Mollygos' SB guide thread there as well.

Edit: I just checked out the FAQ subforum out of curiosity and it looks like exactly what you wanted, though I feel that it could be named a bit better since in my experience a FAQ is just a single post/series of posts answering common questions, usually having to do with starting out in the game.

While I do agree that threads like mine aren't helpful to the game whatsoever, I do honestly think that making the forums more friendly would encourage people to post more things that ARE helpful to the dev process, but that's probably just idealism.

With Terraria, I remember going in with valid criticisms and being shut down because I wasn't enough of a "hardcore gamer" (never mind that, with my gaming experience, nobody in their right mind would say that about me). It wasn't just asking for help, it was giving any feedback about the game that didn't describe it as a perfect sandbox RPG. It's less prevalent on these forums, though still there. What comes to mind is a bunch of kids playing in a literal sandbox, chasing other kids out by saying that they aren't awesome enough to "appreciate" the sandbox, when in reality it's just a bunch of kids playing imagination in a square of sand. These games have always felt very casual to me. What makes it difficult for newcomers is that a lot of games have a very specific line they want you to walk along. In these games, you can do whatever you want, and that befuddles gamers who aren't used to it. That's why it's difficult to give advice, because fighting the enemies comes from actively playing with it and trying to figure it out. A lot of people come in asking for a tutorial on the weak point of each enemy, completely missing the point of the game entirely.

Telling someone what a weak point is doesn't really help because you need to play around to get a feel for the combat and exploit that. Describing the attacks and how to avoid might to some degree. But when people say "just play with it, we're sure you'll figure it out," the newbie might take it as an insult when it isn't. I would equate it to riding a bike; no matter how many times it's explained to you the only way you'll stop falling over is if you keep trying, and develop your own feel for how the balance of the bike operates. It's not that people don't want to help others learn how to ride a bike, it's that we could spend hours and paragraphs going into detail about vague statements like "the enemies are too hard" and the person would still go back into the game and die repeatedly because they aren't approaching it from the correct angle.

A sub forum for newbie questions would greatly help. In particular, a stickied thread about "enemies are too hard/I keep dying" and tips on staying alive might help lower the number of threads we see like this, as well as lower the abuse of those who ask such questions.

That is exactly how I feel as well. In one thread I was labeled an elitist who just want's the game to be as hard and as obscure as possible. Many people seem to think there is no middle ground here. You are either an elitist jerk or a casual entitled noob. I would like to point out that I have never told anyone here to "learn how to play" or have suggested that the game should be harder than it is atm.

Main problem are the so called "hardcore" players.

They're part of all games and they're often minority, but they're often loud and toxic to the communities.

I cannot get an answer to my question:
i want to know if pre-order packs are still available..i mean, if i buy the diamond tier one i still get the tier 3 forum badge, my name for npc and name in the credits? Can i still buy it even if the beta is already started?

Asket to devs, forum mods and support. no clear answer.

These are those who did not realize this was a true beta test (early access on steam) and are expecting a completed/finished game. Of course, there are just plain rude people as well.
