A bit of an inclusive, "hardcore gamer's" circlejerk. There is practically no real help for new players aside from "pley moar", and people who have complaints get completely swamped with comments about how it's just that they suck and how they need to lern2play. I think that means that there's less a problem with people who complain (multiple topics about the same problem means it's a big problem), and more that there's an inherent problem with the community. I'm probably just being cynical, and trying to incite some sort of flame war, but seriously, my arm is not long enough for the jerkoff motion this forum makes me want to do.

It honestly comes with the genre. Terraria's subreddit is like that (never been to the forums), Minecraft's community as a whole is like that (and rife with stupid infighting because mods are apparently Serious Business)... I can't name a "sandbox RPG" game whose community hasn't been like that.

Just slog through it (and ignore it) the best you can.

Ignoring a problem doesn't make it go away. It just makes it seem like people are okay with it, and that's a really unhealthy mindset.

There was a thread here just yesterday where someone politely asked for beginner tips. People helped him, because he was polite.

That's why I made a topic about creating a subforum for questions/feedback about the current patch. Low and behold, it got buried under the sea of questions and feedback about the current patch.

You can't use the minority to prove that something doesn't happen. That's a serious logical fallacy.

Welcome to the internet? Almost every gaming community is like that unfortunately. However, you should be able to find some constructive posts here and there.

But there isn't a problem. Your opinion is that you don't like the threads, so ignore them.

Wow, that hasn't been my experience at all. There have been many helpful people, and I definitely do my best to help any who need it.

Did you need help with something?

Not personally, but (and it might just be me having bad luck with threads) every time I check out a thread where people are asking for help, half of the posts are some kind of dismissive comment or something outright hostile towards newbies.

While there are people who are exactly as you described, there are also other people who really do need to learn how to play. If people are going to treat others in a negative way, they should expect to be treated in the same fashion.

I didn't think I had to prove anything.

My point is that when someone is genuine and asks for help he probably gets it. People who just say "game is too hard" and don't give any explanation to why they get treated badly. I don't really approve of it, but I can understand why it happens.

Eh, I agree to an extent, but it's such a pervasive thing that I don't know what can be done about it.

Doubly so in situations where the attitude of the developers (hello, Terraria/Redigit) seem to fall in line with the mindset.

Like, I get that there are bad newbies who expect way too much, but it seems like the guys on the forums who mock everyone who has an issue are the much more vocal group.

I think a lot of people got really upset at the vitriol flowing about the wipe and the patch, and just took it out on random people :wut: Hopefully, everything will settle down a bit.

It will calm down once the first weeks of beta have passed. People are getting stressed out a bit and are confused.

I doubt it would have made flaming less prevalent. Just centralized on one topic, which I think is worse.

There is always a vocal minority. People who tend to shout the loudest usually don't have anything nice to say sadly.
