I think it would be cool if we had a thirsty system, the same way we have the hungry system, but in the thirsty you need to drink clear water (and even juices or any other drinks through mixing, or etc). To obtain the clean water, you need first get it from a source like lakes in the planet (you find a lot while mining) collect it and bring to some sort of Equipment (The mod "Stimlab" has an water purificator so you need to craft some sort of recipient (an empty glass bottle for example) to store your water to drink. If you drink unpurified water you become poisoned. PS: Sorry for the bad English.
It might be interesting, but my first planet only had poison lakes, no water. Personally, I think the food system is enough for now. It's easy to come by even for new characters, and because of that adds more dept instead of just becoming an nuisance, which I fear thirst might become.
Thirst is a conspiracy. You only need to eat, and most of your hydration comes from eating, whilst most of your "drinking" just goes straight to urine.
The Basis: Starbound already has a variety of toilets. The Proposal: A "Waste Product" system be placed in, to add yet another meter we must vigilantly watch over. Should we fail, depending on the foods we ate since the last time we took a space dump, a Po of according size is spawned from our nether regions.
Eh. Honestly... I'm not a fan, it'd just be one more thing to keep track of. The hunger system is already a mild pain in the ass, not even The Sims had separate gauges for hunger and thirst.
Yeah. I mean while I suppose the survival aspect of the game needs a bit more substance, a new meter seems like a hassle.
Thanks for your opinion about this idea. It really can become a pain in the ass, but would add one more challenge in the game I think. About the planet with undrinkable water, you can craft a water purificator to solve this problem.
