    Mianso Black Hole Surfer

    No battle gameplay,no bosses,no story,no cool weapons.

  2. I hope that they don't hint at any secret stuff in the game whatsoever; finding out about that stuff is really, really fun

I think I'd be happy with whatever they decided to show.

XdamageincX Gotta Catch 'em All! Mk.2

    Don't want to see:
    Bosses
    Story Worlds
    Unique pre-generated items
    Mechs

    Do want to see:
A short video showing quest mechanics (getting, completing, being rewarded)
    Crafting/schematic system
Me playing them game (I dunno if that means in a mirror or creepy pictures from the future, take your pick)

I don't want to see anything major. That's kind of a very generalized statement, but I feel that it's enough. Seeing forests, some weapons, some animations, and some generations are all great ways to get hype for the game. If they started showing major plot points, end game weapons, major bosses, or amazingly complex craftable items... I feel like that would just be too much.

I have to agree with Pentactagon on this one.. Maybe I am just strange in this, but they can show whatever they like (About the game.. anything else they can keep to themselves :p) and I would still have a good time playing it. Besides.. its not like they are going to strap you into a chair and command you to watch it. If they (some-how) put out some content that I didn't want to watch... I just wouldn't watch it?

I want all the information I can get. A big part of my fun is derived by knowing what's going on, what to do, planning, etc. I gathered every scrap of information on Skyrim before I played it, same thing for Dwarf Fortress, Civilization V, Minecraft, and on and on. Generally before I play a game I need to know as much as I can about it. This comes from growing up in an era where games actually came with manuals. The story, mechanics, everything was laid out in them. Is reading a manual prior to playing a game spoiling the experience? I don't know, I personally don't like running in balls to the wall not knowing what I'm doing, the context of doing it, all the background information, etc.

I want any and all information that I can get because the more I know the less likely I am to be disappointed when features I thought would be really good aren't included or they do it a certain way. If you spend enough time in the forums, you'll wish you can drop nukes on planets, have NPC crew teleport down from your ship for support, just insert any fan idea and you'll start to want it more and more. I know there are several people that want to wreak untold destruction with nukes. It'll be more disappointing later on down the line when you try to find a way to build a nuke in the late game and can't find it than it will be if those hopes and dreams are squashed preemptively so you can focus on something else.

I understand there are people who don't want to know, and you know its cool if they want to "discover" everything on their own. I mean who am I to tell them how to play, but when everyone becomes restricted because of that want... it has gone a little too far. Information should not be restricted as a whole, because as you said there is a lot of important information that some of us want to know before we go into a game.

What I am curious is if right now, the Dev's of Starbound came in and told us everything, all the secrets, all the parts.. If it would ruin the game for them, I mean would it cause them to A) Not play it, or  Play it significantly less. I mean would they just not go for those things, or not care about them now that it has been "Spoiled"? I am actually curious as many people have said things about not wanting to know, and I ask what would happen if ya did? Is it just a preference or would it actually be a detriment to you playing the game?

A manual is made for help, reference, and how to play the game, not what's IN the game. I mean, it would tell you how to do a power, but not when or where you get said power. That's basically like saying that a trailer of a movie doesn't tell you what's in the movie. I mean, we all know those are gonna be in the movie, but it doesn't neccesarily spoil the movie (some do, though that's not my point)

A or B really, it would be significantly less enjoyable for me and people like me, possibly to the extent of "not bothering"
It's the same reason I don't want public betas for pre-order, learning everything about a game before it's done really, really ruins the experience for me, on the other hand not learning everything doesn't completely ruin the experience for you guys.

So option A, one group loses one group wins. (lots of info)
Option B, both groups win. (little info)

It's just that in a game centered around discovery and exploration removing those elements make it.... a game about placing blocks while doing things you already knew everything about.

Really? To the point of not even BOTHERING? I can understand that for a book or a movie, but not a piece of interactive media unless it's just shallow, which Starbound clearly isn't.

Yeah but you really miss the point, the entire premise of purchasing a new video game is to explore something new.

The level of excitement one feels from learning something new in a game is always greater than getting to do something you already knew everything about.
I mostly realized just how important something being "fresh" is after playing Minecraft and Terreria from their earliest public versions, despite the games themselves being pretty cool right now I just can't play them because everything I can do is something I have already done. The more you learn about a game pre-release the faster this feeling sets in, in short I want Starbound to be fun for a long time, don't assume that procedural generation implies nothing will ever get old.

You really want to know EVERYTHING in the game? That sounds boring, in my opinion. Why even bother playing a game if you know everything ABOUT that game? It's like (as I have said) someone telling you what happened in a movie and then go see it. I mean, sure, there will be different things, but you still know what's gonna happen and it isn't very entertaining. This is what ruined Minecraft for me: I thought it would be fine to learn how to craft and how to do things, but then I learned EVERYTHING about the game without wanting it. Terraria I got a little bit of info on, but not much. I, myself, only want to see the sandbox aspect on the game rather than story things or big events. I mean, I love just finding a monster I've never seen before and just go "AAAAAH!" and run away screaming without realizing it's passive.

I don't want to see anything that's not going to be in the game.
I would feel greatly dissappointed if this happened, they have after all promised quite a lot.
If they pull through with everything they have already promised I would be deeply satisfied,
but if they manage more, and I'm sure they might, I would be ecstatic.

Again I don't understand that line of thinking at all. Watching Let's Plays of Minecraft is what got me into the game in the first place. For the longest time I played with the wiki open cause I couldn't remember crafting patterns and I still don't know what layers diamond spawns in so I have to go look that up and I have to look up potion recipes if I ever want to make anything. I'm not going to sit and shotgun a whole bunch of combinations to see what makes what. All of my fun from Minecraft comes from the building, survival challenges, and underground exploration. I'm sure not going to go blind into a mod pack like Techit. I wouldn't know how to even start unless I had some sort of external means of getting information.

That's yours, not mine. I create my own fun. I won't let anything ruin my creativity. I know everything in Minecraft but I still love playing hardcore single player and I love dominating the fuel industry of servers with my massive tree farms and mega furnaces.

Okay, I thought up something else while walking out to dinner. All you people that information ruins the game for you... What in the rat flying hell are you doing on a forum that's all about discussing new information on the game in addition to speculation? That's like hating airplanes and deciding to hang out in the terminal.

Because it's fun...? Plus I'm only on Corps, Clans, and Chat. Maybe suggestions, but that's not really spoiling it isn't it?

Bombzero... You may of changed your avatar, but I recognize this opinion lol :p But I digress... let me get to the actual response. Also this might be a little long Post.. Sorry bout that heh.

First I got to say I fundamentally disagree, but it is good to get another opinion. Let me give you an example.. I played minecraft, before I really played I knew about the different blocks, areas, and crafting recipes (Etc.. or the list could go on for a bit heh). And although that was an aspect of the game, it did not effect playing it for me because to me that wasn't the point. To me the point was surviving, building, and even collecting all the things that I wanted/needed to progress, and I had fun heck.. still have fun with that game. I am not trying to compare Starbound to Minecraft (Though ya prob could) I just mean it as an example. I guess what I mean at the base of all things is that even though I knew all that stuff before hand the game to me was how could I use those things, put them together, and make something unique to me, and that is fun. So at times it is difficult for me to see how others who had that same information as I did could be in the same situation, and just not have fun with it at all, but then I think how much I actually now still visit those Wiki's and usually it is when I need to get some of that information. So although it is all there for access, I do sometimes not look myself, for whatever reason.. so in some aspects I can see where you are coming from. Though to be clear, I am not worried about it being spoiled if I were to come across this information, as that's just not how it works for me.

But the other major point comes down to choices.. If the information isn't there then the people who want it have no choice. There is no-way to get to it, or some underground spoiler group (heh) that we can go to find that information. But if that information was there, the people who don't want to see it have a choice on whether or not they look at it. Now I will give ya it will prob get around, and I am sure there will be some YouTube or etc about the information, but I am sure there are ways to avoid it if ya wanted. Heck in most (Not all.. given..) but most situations you would have to actively look for that information. And though this might be a small tangent but I strongly believe.. if someone looks at information knowing that it will affect how they enjoy the game but for whatever reason decided to look at it anyway.. that is on them. They made the choice, and they get what comes from it.

Finally when it comes to procedural generation, I think the best point that could be made with that is it will be difficult to give specific locations of anything. For example you can say X item is on Planet Type.. but you can't be specific to where that planet is, or anything if the planets are generated procedurally. Meaning you can't give out specifics when the results are.. lets just say random.. though it isn't actually random just close enough.

Yes... I would really like to have a place I could go, and get information on everything in the game. Would I use it all the time, maybe not. But I would like to be able to look things up, and check out information "Before" I play for numerous different reasons. It isn't boring (as explained above). I like to know what my options are, or what I am going to run into, and indeed it is not boring at all.
