Things to do in Starbound until the patch hits

If you are like me and are desperately waiting for the patch to be uploaded to steam you probably feel like it's 'pointless' to play the game until it does.

Today I decided to ignore that feeling and play anyway. I decided to roll a new character and play it like the permadeath mode is on, in other words if I die I have to delete it. I am currently almost at the penguin UFO and so far it was great fun playing like this.

What are you doing in Starbound to kill time until the patch comes out?

 

I have actually been avoiding Starbound since the announcement last week that the patch is coming. Mostly because I don't want to burn myself out on the game before it drops. So instead it's been a lot of Don't Starve.

 

Yeah I get that I took a break too, when it was announced early January that there was going to be a final character wipe I decided to stop playing but as I was waiting for the patch to hit I couldn't take it anymore and needed a Starbound fix ^^

 

Yeah after finding out the patch probably wont hit until this weekend I think I'm going to take my main character out for a last hurrah around the universe.

 

Building stuff and generally just doing what I normally do, trying to find bugs and looking for techs I haven't had a chance to try out yet. I don't really view anything I do as "progress" anyway, so the wipe doesn't really affect the way I play the game.

 

I didn't play much since christmas, too, in anticipation of new content and features with upcoming patches. While I still was playing I tried to find as much musical instruments as possible, to jam with the gang

 

I was unlucky with finding instruments between the last and this wipes but I am looking forward to collecting them all after this.

 

I had a bunch of instruments but I think someone ganked them off my ship or something because I can't find them.

I always (100%) die on my first visit to my new home planet. I could sort of (cheat) by zoning back to my ship when I first beam down to my planet and find both to the right and to the left at least 5 to 10 aggressive mobs standing around waiting to eat my brains but I don't and will almost always die on my first visit to the planet. So... Good luck to you.

After 125+ hours playing Starbound (soon rivaling some of my most played games on Steam), I too am taking a break until this final wipe update hits in the next several days. I just can't muster the desire to do much at all in the game. I tried last night and even though I started like 5 new characters I didn't take any of them past building the beacon, and none of them built any homes on their homeworld. Just don't have the desire knowing that it would just be gone come the next update anyway. I want to play now, and I envy those that can play now without the nagging concern that it will just be wiped come this weekend.

Instruments I find by the droves, but techs... Hardly ever.

I've got something like 250+ games on Steam and yet the only one that I want to play is Starbound right now. I try starting up one of my other favs and make it about 10 to 30 minutes and then exit without even saving as I'm just not interested in any of them since Starbound came into my life.

The last time that I did play Starbound, I modded my stone pickaxe to dig out at something like 0.02 firetime and 9.8 damage and tried to clear out everything below the crust layer (top 6 or so blocks) of my home planet. I got bored before getting anywhere close to digging out the entire planet even though the planet was one of the tiny varieties.

 

Been playing mercenary kings and beyonetta.

 

Building a planet a few screens below my spaceship.

 

Still out on a vacation so I'm pretty much stuck till I get back.
hopefully the patch would be out ny then.

 

I am actually just enjoying multiplayer when there isn't any wrap around lag or someone decides to break the server...><

Still having fun despite all that. I just enjoy playing in general.

 

I've been on hiatus from the game for over a week waiting for the patch. Tonight I got on to introduce a friend to the game. It was soooooo nice to be back on the game!!!! And he loves it, so we are playing some more later! I'll teach him all I know about the game the next couple of days while waiting for the patch. It's going to be so much more fun than flicking about between Cube World, Don't Starve, Garry's Mod, etc etc etc...I seem to get bored quickly on other games now, lol.

 

Reading. I discovered Will Wight last week and it was just in time to distract me during patch time. Unfortunately I read quickly so now I'm at loose ends. Trying to convince myself to either find another book (difficult when your still in 'I Love The Last Book' mode), or play the new release of Crea. Crea just seems so... empty now. Darn you Starbound for ruining me for other 2D sandbox adventure games!

 

I thought to buy Crea but I was having a hard time trying to figure out how it really pulls it's own way in regards to either Terraria, Starbound or any other similar genre game.

I've got plenty of games on Steam but since SB, I'm only in the mood to play SB and hopefully it's not been ruined, other games in the genre besides Terraria, as I can't play Terraria as I have cataracts in both eyes and everything in Terraria is so small on my screen that it's unplayable for me.

 

I donated to/bought Crea during the kickstarter over a year ago. Not really happy with the direction they're going. Probably best to wait and see if you haven't bought it already.

 

My friends didn't want to play a 2d game and thought it was lame. So I bought it for them all so they were forced to try it out. They loved it and now we have our own server and play it all the time. Well, as soon as the patch hits we will start again that is.

 

Ya, pretty much everyone I play with now was skeptical about the game because it's a 2d side scroll. But, after the first hour, every one of them has loved the game
