They said they would come back. What does it mean? :o

Hello people of Star Bound! So, I'm assuming we've all come across in our travels many upon many ruins, dungeons, abandoned structures, etc etc, all containing messages written on the walls, or various posters pertaining to something specific or important. Me personally love to learn to history and every little bit of lore there is behind anything that has much to offer, and I know we are only in Beta, however, I would love to hear your theories and or knowledge you have obtained throughout your adventures!

Such as, "They said they would come back".

This specific message was written all across an abandoned U.N.C.M Correctional Facility, with a bunch of what appeared to be escaped convicts running about with stolen weaponry.

I have seen this message on many other planets, all showing some form of human life once being there, or being in relation to said topic.

Another thing really intriguing me, are the Tech Labs scattered about, and the occasional Tech Outposts. All in which usually have something pertaining to Apes it seems, or somehow going back to brain washing in a sense, seeing Posters saying things like
"Obey" and what not.

I have a good feeling about how things are going to add up as Star Bound grows more and more. As I said, leave your're thoughts, I very curious as to what you guys think!

 

The USCM (united systems colonial marines or something) run the correctional facility. There aren't any there when you go.

They abandoned it to the prisoners.

 

They said they were just going to go get a pack of smokes.....haven't seen them for 100 years

 

Know what little lore I know, I can only guess this.

Well if everything is unified and every leader stayed on Earth to keep it the most important planet of the Human empire/federation/union, my best guess is that everything started to fall apart. Earth fell, people fled and power sinks where created. You see these prison facilities ran by free roaming prisoners. One could say that it was the cries of the guards as some may have went for backup. Or the guards left and the broken or hopeful prisoners wrote what they said before giving up or expiring.

Or maybe Earth never had time to make a space empire. What you see now is what Earth did to their prisoners. Sending them off to other planets and suffering after the guards stopped coming back. Planets where only scouted or mined. What I don't get is why you never see any towns. I'm sure someone would have built up their own town in the name of making a history or to leave some of legacy. So all we get are bandits who either killed off the stranded humans or forced them into their group. Survivors building wheel borrows trying to get by, by selling the clothes they could make or of their dead fellow humans.

Fun times to be a human.

 

The USCM likely abandoned the prisons when the beast from beyond the stars landed on Earth. While they were told not to return to earth, I doubt prison guards figured the inmates were worth protecting and fled to seek out other less unlawful humans. At least that's my take on it.

As torren stated, I agree with him. Earth is basically gone. The guards were either part of a massive recall to save humanity or just plain left. If the people that were paying me/dropping me supplies got wiped out I wouldn't stick around to babysit prisoners.

They may have told the prisoners that Earth was under attack and that they were being recalled, so the facility was being left to them. That they'd "be back" as a kind of warning not to go all psychopath. That clearly didn't work. Plus, they obviously never came back.

 

have any of yous not read the codex ? , i swear i picked up a codex that was telling me

how earth was taken over by the tentacle monster , and how all humans had to flee and never come back , so the prisons and what not etc etc that were being operated outside earth , im guessing the guards just decided to ditch the facility's and go start a new with others on a new planet

either that or it is as torren said , they where either part of a massive platton to retake earth back but either failed to retake earth and save humanity or they just simply skidatiled and went their separate routes

 

Given the fact that you find Cultists around those signs, I like to think of some sort of Lovecraftian creatures which is prophesied to return and devour the world!

 

Maybe their creators abandoned them..?
