yes, don't wanted to put in into this direction.
Let's make a conclusion that it would be great if there would be some pretty hard layer near the core. It could be more open-like. And there could be some
ΓΌber-hard mini-boss who will look like Devil (but just by accident) :)

  2. Don't you want Ragnaros to pop out the lava too ?

I've heard a lot of good ideas in this thread. Especially:

And the uh, plant people, bubble-shooting swords and sentient penguins didn't tip you off a little? :s

The bone dragon could simply be a construct rather than a magical and/or supernatural being. Who knows what ancient races used as weapons of war?

then it should not be made of bones but some alien-bones. At it should arrive on the scene in its own spaceship to point out it's really scifi and not fantasy creature :)

It's also worth remembering we have the glitch, which are robot knights. It's not inconceivable they might've thrown together a dragon construct in an experiment to test out the old "knight Vs dragon" tale (Sure, there wern't really any dragons during feudal times; but the glitch are not ACTUALLY feudal, they are robots built by a very advanced race to emulate past behaviours. History tends to get blurred and romanticized over time - for example, St George, the historical figure was a roman soldier born in Palestine, yet is traditionally depicted as an English templar knight, stabbing dragons in modern media!)

Does it have to look ultra-modern to be an alien construct? The Exodar for example (http://www.wowwiki.com/Exodar) runs off holy magic and awesome crystal things, yet it is a ship of extraterrestrial origin to Azeroth.

There certainly can be variety in how things look, but at the same time I would say that space technology would come off as being recognized as modern/futuristic tech with racial traits in it's design. The Exodar isn't really an example of this, it's not a space-ship, it's an example of a fantasy version of a Sci-fi concept only in the sense of an Alien race making it's way to another world.

It kinda is a space ship though. It's essentially the pinnacle of a race's 'technology'. It can also travel through dimensions, which is kinda cool.

I kinda like the way elements of both sci fi and not-so sci fi are being used in the game. Speculating on how things work and what could be possible in different universes is something that I enjoy doing, kinda filling in the blanks, so to speak. It's totally cool if people don't like or a disappointed with the less sciencey bits of the game; I totally get your opinions, and the fact that people are willing to express them is totally cool, but maybe that's just the way this particular universe works.

Think of a couple of the Final Fantasy games combining fantasy elements such as magic with futuristic cities and vehicles and the like. That's how their universe works.
Or the 40k universe, which is kickass because it's not only a sci fi universe, but it also deals with gods, orks, and things that would be perceived as magic if it were in a fantasy setting; there's even a Chaos god, Tzeentch, who is pretty much master of 'magic', or psychic power. That's how another universe works.

If "inexplicable energy crystals powering flying buildings" isn't sci-fi enough for people, I presume they havn't seen the Avian ships or technology

Spaceships travel through space. The Exodar doesn't, it travels through the Twisting Nether like a huge cross-world portal device.. So not a space ship.

The Exodar travels through normal space as well.

Plus, the Twisting Nether is pretty much space in another dimension. It's just messy space. But it's still space.

The Avians use some pretty cool ancient/modern stuff. Kinda like the Yautja. Cool, no?

And I guess the protoss, if you count energy blades and hi-tech armour to be a decent mix of modern and not so modern.

Maybe they could pull a fast one like how doctor who handled the topic of satan by addressing the idea of satan as a consciousness and the physical embodiment as a sort of container for said consciousness. Maybe a "Hell" planet similar to the magma biome but with more demonic appearing monsters. To make it fit into the Sci-fi setting they could use this planet as the base of where the idea of hell originated in some of the spacefaring cultures.

  18. Yeeeeeah, I'm going to mentally think of the bone dragon as a high-tech construct designed to look like an undead dragon to terrify low-tech races (or just plain evoke an instinctive fear, even in people who are aware it's a construct).

Someone "disguised" one of those new RC 'copters to look like a grim reaper and managed to scare quite a few people with it.

    IT'S ALL TECH

    THERE IS NO MAGIC

Hell, maybe it comes from a different universe.
    Okay, how about this;
An alien race that powers its machinery or whatever by harvesting the inner layers of planets. Once they harvest a world, they leave the shell and move on.
The harvesting process takes years. This species journeys to the surface on occasion to look for tech to speed up the process, or just to mess with the populace by making them believe that they are demons or supernatural beings.
