Theories on The Main Bad Guy

The main bad guy is a life form composed from the collective minds of those who dislikes starbound for their own reasons, and potential players who have lost their path while over-eagerly waiting for the game's release. With their combined disdain for Starbound, they have spawned the Eradicator, which seeks to destroy all life-form in Starbound, but not before the players have a chance to build up whatever they require in order to defeat it.

    Or maybe it's Unicron.

5 euros say that it is the ancient civilization that made The Glitch.
But didn't a bunch of multi-legged, multi-eyed huge critters in spaceships destroy them?
Oh well, I guess they still survived in an underground base they probably destroyed all the planets that they belonged from. Still, it is possible that they survived secretly in some tiny asteroid that wasn't scanned

Yeah, and and and and, what if it shot HUGE LASERS from it's mouth and the only way to damage it is by shooting it at 3 weak points which is it's eyes and chest!

Evil Darth Rustlerious of Apex. They ally with lesser races like Koalans and Pandamox to serve them and fight for their cause.

You fight with Rustlerious's allies thru tier 2-9 (4 per race). Then when you can fight against Darth Rustlerious at tier 10.
Triumverate, most epic enemy faction ever.

Well actually we just need to think who destroyed our home planet at first.
I think it was the penguins.

  11. Chainsaw surgeon

If the main antagonist isn't an intergalactic horror spawned out of the Cthulhu mythos then it sucks.
    (Well, not really.)

    Why just Cthulhu?
Let's also throw in Nyarlathotep and Ghatanothoa for a good measure of cosmic horrors.

Another great villain would be the comic relief character you'd never expect
(who is also possessed by a cosmic horror, just can't go without them)

I think an appropriate BBEG would be form of 'ascended' life form, from another plane of existence, with mastery of spacial teleportation allowing it to teleport to you, and to teleport monsters/enemies to you.
Perhaps a cosmic horror, perhaps a simple mortal ascended to near-dietyhood via highly advanced technology.
If it is a simple mortal, maybe its source of teleportation mastery is a small amulet it wears, that you could salvage some technology from after the battle.

  20. Dr Fushba

    Dr Fushba Cosmic Narwhal

An ancient evil awakens to swear vengeance on the galaxy
A highly-evolved creature from another dimension that tricks advanced races, including the 'Unknown Enemy' into accidentally destroying planets, in order to create war and chaos throughout the universe.
Or maybe just a giant cat that noms everything.
