Ok i really need to get this thing out of my mind.
Im confused, why arent we getting a beta? We DID get 850k within a week and still no hint at a beta release.
Why is it bothering me? Cuz they last year made a 2012 release date, but that was WITHOUT any kind of money income from us.
How come they are bold enough to say a release date without money, but cant do it when they have 850k?!
    It just boggles my mind.

  2. Hello Wolf. Sadly, the Money doesn't Instant Develop a Game. It may speed up the development, but do not "reach this X money and we instantly give you the game".

And last year they did not said as official, it was just to where they are aiming release the game, they don't want to be wrong again.
Now it's confirmed that is in 2013, they don't say anything until they are SURE they won't Fail the Goal they set.

I do not want play the game now and play a possible Buggy, Crashy and Incomplete Version of it. I will be just patient for it.

Scroll down a little, click on the pretty circles. A lot of stuff still needs to be developed, coded, implented, tested, fixed. After that, then we beta test to look for bugs they missed.

Not confirmed but estimated, but like you I'm pretty sure they will have the full game released within 2014. (Just a small correction )

And when it comes to the beta, I guess we'll have it within maybe a couple months... Hopefully

Hey about that roadmap. There are some circles with avatars on them. Is that to show what the different people of the team working on?

  6. BETA is close enough I assume! Launch that may not be. But roadmap may be +90% until they get beta up since they want to beta to be a complete test version of the game.

That is because you (mistakenly) associate cash with release.
This is not how things work. Without the preorder, they would be able to release the game as it is currently. They doesn't do it so they don't gave us a "crappy" bêta with bugs and glitches all over the place.

Like Bacon said development takes time, and with the preordering, they'll be able to make a decent bêta faster. But you could gave them $5M right now, that won't be better (maybe they'll give you access to the current development branch of the game, but you may be disappointed because there would be lots of problems in it)

If they're going t o wait till 90% done on the road map then we still have months to wait... :(

Think i mabye should say this instead, Seeing how we have 850k its obv we care about this game, i dont see the reason not releasing the game now and let us showing passion to the game test it and help out, im pretty sure 35k players are a tad bit faster in finding bugs and help finishing the game the way it should than the lets say 20 ppl that is making the game themselves.
This would also asure so the game dont release with game mechanics noone wants in the community.

  12. Where did you get this? >_>

That's assuming those 35k players are actively hunting for bugs. Also, look at the roadmap again.

  13. Stop and Think a bit: I would and likely you to, that if they release a BETA it would need to be a stable and complete enough one.
I do not want play the game now and play a possible Buggy, Crashy and Incomplete Version of it. BECAUSE NOTICE: A lot of people don't understand the point of a BETA version, and look at it like it is some final version. Believe me, Starbound would be hugely downrated as already happened with a lot of games who launched early BETAs before they were ready.

Then it's best for us all, wait it to be ready, no point into add more pressure into the DEVs.

I think that if they were at the stage where they just want bug found and fixed they would have probably started the bêta. I guess they are more at a stage where they still implement mechanisms and don't need to be "polluted" by thousands of bug reports for things they know aren't working.

This said, I'd be the first to enjoy a bêta, but sometimes you have to be patient

Just be patient. You wouldn't want them to rush a game to satisfy our "instant gratification" attitude while it isn't a finished product.

Money doesn't speed up development, it just helps them stay fed and in warm homes.. They started preorders so that the devs wouldn't have to work two jobs while developing the game. Yes, development will now be faster, however its not going to instantly develop the game and get it out to the public. Tiy's trying his best to give us a game that's gonna be worth playing, and that we can all enjoy, and as such it will be out when he decides that his game is gonna fun and enjoyable for everyone, with bugs that won't ruin your experience. As such, it isn't gonna come out in a week or two just because they got crazy amounts of money.

The reason they aren't giving a specific date for 2013 is because they gave one for 2012 and were wrong. If they're wrong again, it'll just inspire hate among some people and in order to avoid that, they have to offer up a vague date like, "2013." Cut them some slack; this is a big thing they're working on.

  20. I remember reading somewhere "you only get to release a game once" - I think the Chucklefish team have very much taken that to heart - when they release the game I reckon they want to do their best (within reason) to deliver everything they've promised. It may seem like they are taking their time but honestly they have been pretty transparent with what's going on - Look at stuff like the roadmap for example.

As for the release date: well, 2012 was a very loose estimate made with little basis; mostly because the team was being pressured to give some kind of estimate. There was a pretty negative reaction from some people when this fell through and it has made Tiy and the others a lot more cautious about saying anything more specific than "2013/this year". It's also worth noting that this hesitance has been around long before pre-orders were made available

Lastly, releasing the game now for people to 'find bugs' is kind of a silly point. Yes, it would open it up to 35000 people but when you take into account:
-Not all of those people will be playing the beta regularly/at all

-Of those people, most will not be playing with a mindset towards finding bugs (playing is kind of a poor term here, if you are looking for bugs then you are testing the game, not playing it)

-Of the people who are testing for bugs, many of them likely have little to no experience with software quality testing or how to provide meaningful or useful feedback (such as steps to replicate the bug). In an actual software testing environment, testers would be working through a list of very specific procedures that they have to do and repeating these procedures under a variety of circumstances.

-Because of the above, it is likely that certain commonly encountered bugs will probably be found over and over (eg. not being able to turn in a particular quest) and the team would become 'flooded' with reports of this, meaning more obscure and important bugs may be missed (eg. save data becoming corrupted under a very specific circumstance).

Once you consider stuff like that, releasing a beta in the hopes of squishing bugs in the game is probably going to accomplish next to nothing.
