The Upcoming Save Wipes

Guys! Just put it all in chests on your home world, save the co-ordinates and fly there when you have enough fuel. It's so easy!! I'm pretty sure that's how it works, doesn't hurt to try!

 

I get the need for a wipe, but if players can find a way (I don't agree with petitioning devs to waste their time to find ways for us) if players can find a way on their own, that's great. It means we can craft ourselves some gear immediately and get right to testing the new combat system.

 

if people get mad at things getting wiped they must not have read this was beta or the posts that have been around about it though it would be nice to know some commands to get certain weapons

 

On the contrary, if you manage to find a way to bypass the wipe and use a save that may be corrupted in some way and you just don't realize it, then you're not "testing" anything.. Because any reports you make are null and void because you're no longer using the stock-standard game and may have caused the bugs yourself, thus wasting the developer's time.

 

I knew to expect this sort of thing, so I'm not too bothered. This wipe and any subsequent ones will just give me an excuse to try out some of the other races anyways, though it would be nice if we could at least keep our character designs.

 

I'm pretty sure it only saves the world generation and not the actual player placed blocks.

or Option 3; get over it? Day 3 into the beta, and your surprised and upset they have to do a character wipe. Not only did they announce this was going to happen, but there is nothing to cry over. It was even stated if you dont like character wipes or lots of bugs, youre better off waiting til a more stable build is available.

Im looking forward to the player wipe. Ill be glad to progress through it properly than skipping Tiers of Armor or just going to a threat 40 planet and building a wall around a few mobs to farm them. i will more than likely be back to where i am Now in half the time it has taken me previously.

 

I am fairly certain that the universe will be re-rolled in order to accommodate the new level mechanics. This would mean that all current coordinates (or seeds) will no longer produce the same planet after the update.

the big assumption here is that the ID's and their format will stay the same, with some items being procedural and the components that make up a weapon changing in the next patch, they will most likely have a different ID

 

I knew from the beginning that my save would be wiped, that's why I chose a floran because they are supposed to have short lives.
I'll miss her though.

 

The dev's shouldn't be forced to bend over backwards and have their legs in the air ready for people to whine about save files, when you signed up for BETA, they told people upfront that there will be deletion of characters and save...

 

Yes, I know. I'm not whining or complaining. I'm just proposing possible solutions that would please everyone that is upset that their character is going to be wiped (I for one, am not that sad about it, as I am going to experience new planets, new facilities, and make a character of a different race).

Well-said. I suppose an inventory editor will be created by the community in a matter of days anyways, so I suppose it doesn't matter.

 

Editors will exist, since the player files are stored localy, and people will cheat stuff that could be legitimately found. This is happening sooner or later...

 

I don't see how that is any relevance to what I said? 2: Is there because I don't want to deal with client-side cheaters on my server. If I can force server-side characters. Then I don't have asmuch to worry about with cheating. Especially if I canwhitelist/ ban people.

 

I'm pretty sure that when you're able to force server-side characters, they'll not have access to dev commands...
