The truly definitive "What race are you?" poll

I know its quite a common question asked on the forums. So I've been running a poll on starbound.wikia.com since May 7th and its got a LOT of votes. (14,002 at the time of writing) I thought you guys might be interested in the results.

Its been interesting to see how the results have been changing. Before the beta came out, Avians were the most popular.

Humans have a good starting cooking recipes. It makes them a easy race to play.

 

Never ceases to amaze me how many people want to play a sci-fi or fantasy game and pick a human character. Maybe it's a role-play thing where they want to "feel" like they are that character in the game?

Any insight as to why Human fans?

 

I'm sure Novakid will skyrocket on their release.

 

the hair & outfits maybe... I actually play primarily a Floran, but I like the Humans as well...

Some recipes like someone else mentioned too. Possibly because it is the most familiar race among the selection. Could be as many reasons as there are people that like them.

 

Well, not to be too reductive, but it's basically because we're human.

The same reason all these 'aliens' are still humanoid anyway.

To speak on the genre as a whole fantasy and science fiction are, among other things, forms of escapism. It is easier for most people to put themselves into a character's shoes when they are familiar. Hence human or at least humanoid main characters being so commonplace.

 

I'm playing is Hylotl until the fabled character wipe. My heart is with the Florans, however.

They're a refreshing change from the peaceful, wise hippies that normally represent nature/plant based characters and creatures in fiction.

 

I was worried this was another what race do you like thread, pleasantly surprised to find a wiki report. Interesting results shows people will always gravitate to the familiar including me I always go human.

 

Actually, it looks to me like the results show that only a small minority gravitate to the familiar. The vast majority of respondents picked a race other than human.

I play an Apex in multiplayer servers and a Human in singleplayer. I enjoy playing human more though, I don't really know why.

Surprised that no one brought out that the glorious robot overlords are in 2nd place (unsurprisingly behind humans). I though the florans were supposed to the most popular? (suck it tulips)

 

Believe me.. If there were furry races I would have chose it. There isn't however, so I'm going with the Floran.

Hylotl.

Half of them are anthropomorphic animal races.

 

I'm not sure if you're baiting or what. You should know what I mean. I didn't think I needed to state the obvious to explain my post.

 

I'm not baiting. I'm just saying they're there.
Maybe we're just not on the same page of definition of "Furry races". When I think of "Furry", I think of animals modified to have a humanoid form. That's what Hylotls, Apex, and Avians are.

It's cool. Don't worry about it. I just thought you were baiting and all.

But you're not so it's all good. What I meant was lupine races, or fox like races. You know, the works. I'm satisfied with what there is however, no biggie.

 

I originally intended to play a Glitch as my main character.

However, I typically play with a group of friends, and among us, someone already picked a Glitch as their race. So I wound up with a Hylotl instead. I'm actually glad for that, because I've come to love the little amphibians since then. I also enjoy the fact that their ships have some unique tile and lightning choices, instead of the same boring panelling and inset lights as the other races.
