I am pretty sure that we can actually make it to 1,5 million, depending on when its release date is.

Oh i exspect us to hit 1m in a week or 2, and by release, it might be optimistic but i think the game can hit 2m. Just think how good we have done with no publicity or playable content and such. Just imagine how things will sky rocket when its there to show. Just give it time.

I feel as if our current $~900k is just what we got out of people who happened to walk by and notice the game.
Toss it out somewhere a little more obvious, and that could become something much bigger.

Although some people might call it shameless, I have to wonder if the Minecraft Forums have an off topic section for other games.

    Edit: Turns out there is.

The devs are just waiting for the right time to unleash the trailer. Probably just after 1M. We can be certain the trailer will be released soon, as the timing is perfect.

After the trailer is released there will be a massive cash injection from the pre-orders, and we will be well on our way to a fourth stretch goal, or possibly even the beta? (Wishful thinking, I know.)

The Minecraft forums have a gaming section in their Off-topic forum, but I would be shocked if there wasn't a Starbound thread already.

    Who wants to make one?

There is one, but it is three pages back. I'd say a new one is in order.

I would second this, a Let's Play by the devs of it would be pretty neat and help get people interested.

Ehh I don't think so, they said they'll stop taking in pre-orders when beta launches. With it's current speed, I think the pets will be the last stretch goal, till they finalize the beta. (Unless the next stretch is really short)

If you examine the purchasing trends of any media, the first week is always the most important. More people will buy it during that time than just about any other timeframe thereafter. Starbound hit a fantastically high note with only word of mouth advertising. Now it's picking up residuals. We'll see if release and maybe some actual advertizement affect sales at such time.

i think for an indie game that hasn't had much advertisement its doing pretty good its almost got 1mil and has 36,642 backers is pretty good but i do agree a trailer would help but still not half bad where they are at so far

considering the trend of most kickstarter, indigogo, or similar crowd-sourcing. starbound is doing exceptionally well, even currently its doing very well $'s/day wise. always first 24 are important and any subsequent pr moves make bumps. so dont worry. everything is going just as it should. plus, not everyone should pre-order, then there is less revenue post-release, and that would suck. So stretch goals or not, when they they make enough to sustain development, its good to see sales taper off, that means the release will see bigger sales at full price.

I doubt he or Jesse have received press copies yet. Devs wouldn't give gaming journalists an unstable build, if they did, it could have very negative impact on the game's early PR. If Anything, if/when gaming journalists get a hand of a preview press build, it would mean that the Beta shouldn't be too far behind.

Or they've given them copies to record footage to send back to StarBound for the trailer they're making. Or they've given them copies to join a server and record a video playing with all the devs for the trailer.

It was the developer LP of Terraria that got me into that game. Before I watched that I was skeptical of how good a 2D game could be(and we all know there were a ton of people screaming "minecraft ripoff!!".) Well it's the same situation here. There are a ton of people screaming "Terraria Ripoff!!".

As soon as the game is in playable state I don't doubt for an instant the devs will start an LP(and hand off a review sample to TB and JC who have a massive following for their Terraria series.) And I don't doubt for an instant that when that happens the people screaming ripoff will change their mind as soon as they see the game in action.

I'm calling it now, assuming the pre-order remains active right up until the final product is ready for release, they'll finish with over 4 million $ in pre-orders. Just give it time and be patient. As soon as the developers have a solid game to showcase you're be hearing about it on every gaming site out there.

Can't you just copy, paste, and translate what you did for BL?
I wouldn't have found this game if you didn't post anything.

Relax. I remember when I first learned about Terraria. I was sitting in front of my computer eating a fishstick looking at my screen where i would hit the refresh button on steam. Then there was this new game in the list, called Terraria. The graphics looked... old, but somehow the style was appealing. I checked it out. Looked at the screen shots, the video, read the description. Then i stopped chewing. Swallowed the suddenly incredibly dry fishstick, and got stabbed right into the brain. It was very late in the night where i live. I didn't want to spend any more money on games this month, but i couldn't fight this stab. I HAD to buy Terraria. Told my sister about it, told my best friends about it. We played it for months, had fun exploring, discovering, collecting and of course, building.

If there are people like me left on this world, man will they stop eating when they see Starbound on Steam.
