The Train's Stopped

The train of Pre-Orders whirred by day after day, each day a good 50k would be collected. I've noticed however, that the train has SERIOUSLY slowed down. Now, either not enough people know about Starbound, or this 1M reward isn't a very good one. Perhaps it could be offered @ 900k? Also, it'd be great for publicity if TB released his Early-Look@ Starbound soon. Thoughts?

I would have to say not enough people know about it...

Starbound has literally no advertising, really. I heard about it because someone on steam was zealous about it. At first I was like "So what" even, when he sent me the first video.

  4. I really don't think anyone is going to buy Starbound because of the stretch goals. They're just extra frosting! yummm :cookie:

Definitely not enough publicity. But I REALLY want those starter pets. Adding companions like that in the start of the game seriously makes me VERY happy. Now if they add Custom names for gear... I will explode..

I feel like once people actually have the game to show off and make videos about, sales will once again explode.
OR, the devs themselves could start a let's play of it. It couldn't possibly hurt sales...
That's sort of how Terraria got kicked off, the devs did a co-op, and it was pretty awesome, then P-Bat got a hold of it and it once again exploded, after that it all went up hill until development stopped.

Once starbound has ANY videos that are edited together and not just random playtest'y things I imagine people will once again be interested.
PCGamer is a huge source of information and I think the Dev team should try and set up an interview with them.

It's also a possibility that some people are saving for the higher costing tiers. I'm sure someone wants a pixel-style statue of themselves. I know I don't have THAT kind of money though.

I say this too time and time again, TotalBiscuit really needs to get his hands on this, but as long as he's not playing, it's just giving us a clue on how unplayable it's state is right now.
Something he might not find worth covering atm.

Have you ever looked at a game sales chart? That's literally every game ever made. Big sales first day, tapers off exponentially. It would be like this no matter what the reward was. Sales data is here: http://starrybound.com/sales.php

It just needs advertising landmarks. Starbound will get a big boost once beta is out and once it hits steam on release, my predictions.

It's okay. Different websites have already started publically advertising it through their statistic on pre orders. Also review sites have nominated the most anticipated indie game and once these websites are more active then the Devs will make more. Also, the reason this goal is so expensive is because they have NOOO idea what to set as a goal prize... they don't want to keep having to ass more features and think of more features due to the fact they thought $25000 first couple days was a rediculous goal. So they increased the novakids to more and then reached that. Then the fossils. Then they got tired of thinking up these ideas and decided to make the next goal just as high. So what if we dont reach it. 2 peices of bonus content is already amazing. If the Devs didnt decide to kindfully have strectch goals, we wouldn't have the race im going to play coming into the game, or an interesting in game activity/hobby.

Yeah, no one really advertises it.
I have told many of my friends, but they won't play any non-FPS games.
I am personally a friend of non-FPS (I love Borderlands though).
Kudos to my very best friend John for telling me about Starbound.

They should use some of that pre-order money to hire a PR guy.

I'm going to agree with not enough advertising. Right now the only people who are actually advertising are the fans. I've told a few of my friends already. Hopefully pre-orders will increase after the new trailer

No news is not good news. A trailer, or any other kind of announcement or more details about the game will draw more interest and, in theory, drive more pre-orders. I also do think there are people who know about Starbound who have not pre-ordered, because they are waiting for more information (or for their budget to more more flexible). Like any complex system, till will tell in the end.

Understand the stretch goals are for launch, which is in the future. There is no timelimit for those other than that.

If you think starbound wont make another 100k before launch, then you greatly underestimate the game.

It has raised nearly 900k with barely any publicity what so ever. Do you seriously not understand how amazing of an achievement that is?

When it is ready to be shown to the world more, it will, and sales will skyrocket again. until then, let the devs do things at thier pace and refrain from ridiculing them about it.

They do thigns for a reason. No matter how "done" you think the game is, thats their decision to make, and i will tust they know a hell of alot more about it than we do.

So yeah, sales slowed down at just shy of 900k, but if that isnt alot to you then you have some warped sense of accomplishment.

It needs some good solid publicity. One good preview or game trailer of more than early alpha footage would go a long way. Show some combat with both ranged and melee, a vehicle or two in action, some crazy randomly generated monsters on some interesting planets. Get some substance out there other than a bit of building and physics demos.
