The Starbound Reference Thread

Hey guys!

The purpose of this thread is simple:
Post any reference to other games, movies, literature, art, etc. that you've found in Starbound! This may be revealed by inspecting items (Hotkey = N), but generally just keeping a keen eye out for anything that makes you go "Where have I seen that before?"

I'll start - I found a Crown in a chest: "Jewel encrusted metal party hat, it came from a pretty big christmas cracker."

Obviously a Runescape reference

What have you found?

 

Perfectly Generic items seem to be a Homestuck reference.

 

Posted this in an "easter egg" thread already, but the description of "rice" is a Mitch Hedberg joke :> Also stated that if you don't know Mitch Hedberg, you should change that :>

 

Someone else posted it before, but I noticed it as well. The descriptive text on the different colored Flashlights corresponds with the various Lantern Corps from DC comics.

the "bombs" you find are the same bombs used in the nintendo game "bomberman"

dragon king could be a skyrim reference.

 

Welding Helm- Dead Space
Space Helm - Doom.. but I think these were quite obvious

the USCM penal colony is quite an homage to Alien 3

 

I love how you guys notice these things - most of these didn't cross my mind

 

the makeshift matterblock armour resemble's the " elite desert ranger NCR armour" from fallout : new vegas

 

I suspect that the developers are League of Legends fans. The scroll backpack is reminiscent of Ryze from LoL and the lantern backpack is similar the Yorick's.

 

I posted this on a thread a few months earlier as well, but a few of the haircuts seem to have anime and game references, such as the Goku hairstyle for boys and the Miku Hatsune and Reimu Hakurei hairstyles for girls.
I haven't really encountered that much references yet beside that except for the bombs being Bob-ombs from the Mario games.

There's the obvious Apex labs built into test chambers, Portal style.

I don't care much for references personally. Especially if it's used in place of good writing.
