What I wouldn't give to be able to play Sento Nel Core from the PC-Engine Splatterhouse. Sadly midi files for that game are damn near impossible to track down it seems, and I'm not musically talented enough to be able to write the music for it myself.

He's fixing the stacked commas and apostrophes bug, but not the others yet.

^^^^^^ Is that what causes it to say "file is too dotted?"

No, that error's hard to explain if you don't know how to read sheet music. Basically, the length of one or more notes is at a weird length and EasyABC can't write sheet music for that note length in a single note. This error doesn't affect playback though.

Could someone possibly compose Rufus' Welcoming Ceremony from FF7?

Thanks a lot for a guide.
By far I have succeed in convert MIDI to ABC
I recommend using MIDIzyx2abc as it works perfectly and better than EasyABC that loses some of notations after a convert.
Now I'm trying to convert an anime song that has 2 MIDI tracks as they support each other greatly when being played.
I converted each MIDI to a single ABC file and thinking of making 2nd ABC being played at the same time by another instrument in Starbound.
I wonder if the sync system allowed me to play 2 different ABC file (maybe with the same name) and they could be sync together.

I just found out how to duplicate a layer of MIDI out and now I can convert those MIDI tracks to a single ABC file with different instrument tag like your example in the first post. Tempting to test it now but I can't as this PC has no game save with any instruments :((, hope Starbound music support it

If anyone who knows how to get these to work, or is a nice composer and feels like helping someone who can't get this to work...

One of my favorite songs, I don't care if it's one track or done in several lesser ones for a band effect, I just want to be able to play this... Thanks in advance to whomever picks this project up

Other news: Awesome stuff throughout the thread, keep up the work audiophiles.

I've updated my ABC bugs guide to include the following changes and additions:
    • Updated the "Stacked Octaves" section to note that the bug has been stealth-fixed as part of the latest patch.
    • Added a section explaining how EasyABC's chord length behavior differs from Starbound's, and how to get both to play a multiple-length chord the same way.
    • Added a footnote in the comments containing tricks for how to get EasyABC (and other software based on abc2midi) to play song parts at different volumes or left/right balance. Starbound ignores these tricks since they're actually ABC comments, but you can still use them to simulate how a band in-game would play a song by adjusting the volume and pan settings to account for where each player would be standing relative to the audience. This is actually outside the scope of the guide, so I'm leaving it in the comments until I'm ready to post another guide specifically for it.
    • Added a link to the documentation for abc2midi, since it contains important information on the behavior of EasyABC's playback feature. The documentation also contains other tricks that you can use in EasyABC like the ones I mentioned in the guide and the comment section.
    • Quickly changed the "tips and tricks for EasyABC" footnote to fix an error I made in explaining what the range for each control event was.

Any luck with megalovania? Pretty please?

I forget whether I put it in my request queue or not. I generally only do requests asked for on Starbards.net, and I give priority to the ones posted in my thread in the Composer Corner there. You might want to post a message reminding me to take a look at the MIDI for that video you linked.

I only really want that song converted and I don't want to feel like I'm turning you down or anything but I really don't want to sign up just because of one song, as I'll probably not use my account there afterwards.

It's actually a pretty long and complex song, and if I were to transcribe it, you'd need several people to play it. If you just want to play it solo and don't care about having the right instruments for each part, then you might be better served by asking a transcriber who doesn't work by hand like I do.

Any idea where I'd go for this?

I removed all the old examples and added new ones I've made to work with Starbound. I'll hopefully add a lot more in the future as people post to Starbards with songs that work.

Any tips on creating an abc file from learning it from a mp3 or video?

I've got quite a bit of music i'd love to be able to learn and play, and transferring my favorite songs might help me understand my guitar better IRL as well.

This is one of my reasons.

The patch today appears to have added a bunch more songs to be played.

Edit: They appear to all be Christmas songs.
