Nah. Every block can have the same mass. It's a simple count. You can carry truckloads of steel with you so using a more specific mass value wouldn't make a lot of sense. =)
Sounds good, if we could produce electricity i'd like to see an option of different ways you can power your ship
I like all your ideas to limit the ship's expansion on an early game stage! Although, Ship's mass seems a bit weird in space... So, apparently we will have in a near future space combats, but even more... Ship boarding ! What does it means for our suggestions? I think invaders shouldn't only try to destroy your character, but your ship as well. For now your ship is almost indestructible, so you don't really "care" about it, your ship's design is only about storage-efficiency. But what if invaders could come through any airlocks doors? You will be on the other side of the fence, you will be the dungeon-master and you will setup traps to defend your lair... Ship customization becomes instantly more interesting !
I'm liking this, especially the part about solar panels and docking on planets and stations. It is already a pain to gather coal for fuel when you have to use it for making steel/durasteel/whatever.
If you lose your ship to pirates though, the game would end... I imagine it being more along the lines of you boarding pirate/merchant/military ships and, at the end of it all, you could head off in your newly liberated ship if you so desired.
+9999 to this post Here are some few additions: Traveling from planet to planet, if both planets are in the same system, its ok to do a spacejump,(it is mandatory when traveling long distantes such as system-system por even sector-sector) However, when you move from a planet to another planet justo right next to ir (smaller planet or moon orbiting the first one) you perform as well a spacejump that lasts the same time it would take a spacejump for traveling system-system, and that under my point of view should be corrected, maybe just accelerate the ship and travel normally for a few seconds? Secondly, I agree with the ship customization idea, but not block by block. I would implement something like a crafting table, but for customizing your ship only when landed, you might choose among a wide range of presetted ship parts, here you could maybe make your ship bigger or wider as well ( For example, adding or replacing parts such as different cabins...) And where these "tables" should be placed? Well, this takes me to my personal idea, LANDING SPOTS. There are many landing spots for you to land on a planet, (Between 4 and 12, or maybe more, lets think about multiplayer) These spots are pieces of flat land with anything else on them but dirt and maybe something else in order for people to notice that that is a landing spot. However, 90% of these landing spots on virgin or non explored planets are not operative, an the player (or players) must make them work, by placing this "table" I said before, they can craft and place presetted landing platforms, and so when they are operative, when you travel to that planet you might choose among the operative landing spots existing there, and that would be like the aditional teleporting spots some people wanted. I hope you guys understood me, sorry for many mistakes I might have , still learning english!
Your english is far better than mine Gray Greymane! I believe most people want customization in their ships, they are their true home for now, and unlike Minecraft or some other unlimited-sandbox-crafting-game there is no point for now to come back to your homebase on a planet. We brought the ideas of drilling stations and other ore-mining bases, but what else could we imagine to get people to come back on their planet and enhance this feeling of "owning" a place ?
This would be lore-unfriendly if you are a Glitch. If you play as a glitch, you are supposed to be an outcast.
>Implying space pirates are bad What if we had some sort of morality, and the more scumbag you are, more people will attack your ship. BEcause you know, some pirates have good morals:
