I love how you called the developers scum for not updating the roadmap, and now that it's updated, you forgot about it entirely and continue what you were doing. No human being in the world appreciates this behavior, in case you've never worked on anything before.

What are you even talking about? You think I forgot about how we were deceived and they dedicated almost no effort to it, probably only working on it the same day it was released? I'm still upset about that. But I can only be upset about and complain about so many things at one time. Right now I'm upset about this exclusive preview in late august fiasco. And I'd like to know, what do you suggest I do otherwise? Sit back and let the devs get away with everything? Should there be no dissent on the Starbound forums? Should no complaints be directed at the developers? Should I just sit back and let them make mistake after mistake, without expressing my grievances? Mind you I actually don't have any quarrel with "the developers." It's basically just Tiy. Kryen or Omni never said many weeks ago "trailer this weekend." Bartwe nor denmirasu ever said "soon ."

Also, "No human being in the world appreciates this behavior." Is that a joke? I'm complaining to someone about their course of action on a video game forum. I'm not even using much of any insults or too much swearing. I hope this minuscule level of unruly is never actually viewed as abhorrent.

 

If a complain could get the game closer by 0.01%, we'd have three starbounds, terraria update and a dozen of angry birds by now.
I don't think Tiy meant beta in December, but I also think if it was possible to give it now, he'd do. So it's pointless. We're spending his time by arguing.

 

We aren't spending his time at all. This is a discussion forum and that's what we're doing. Discussing the game. Part of that would be the fact that it's not in beta. Some people believe it should be now, some think the opposite. So we discuss it. In a forum about a game that's not out yet, we don't have much else to discuss, and it's a valid topic.

 

Yeah, but since the discussion is so massive, Tiy had to come and explain himself here. There are many people wanting game or beta now, and the cry to give something and the arguments about the date stopped being a discussion a long ago. Now it's more of grumbling. Everywhere.

 

It's not like Tiy's time is more valuable than anyone else's. I think he should spend more time on here talking with us even. Maybe then we could understand eachother. I don't even care about when Starbound is coming out, I care about the competence of the people working to make Starbound come out.

 

I merely wanted to point out the the roadmap update has occured. You know, that update you wanted a whole damn lot, and "criticized" whoever is in charge of it about at the end of the month. It's updated now, and you quite clearly aren't pleased, even though you got what you asked for.

 

So you are saying that the lead developer coming and addressing the concern of a large portion of the community is a waste of his time? Hmm.. Well, everyone is entitled to feel whatever level of developer interaction is good or bad. You seem to feel that anything more than zero is too much and a waste, i feel the exact opposite. I think he should be a bit more active in the forums as opposed to the IRC chat and twitter. But i'm old fashioned and feel the official forum is where the dev's should be talking about these things.

Also if you're grumbling about the grumbling, and i'm grumbling about your grumbling about the grumbling.... when does it end?

 

My primary concern was the actions of the people involved with the roadmap, not the roadmap itself. It came out late and I believe there wasn't an apology about that. If I keep asking you to get me a cake sometime next week, and you promise you'll get me a cake next week, and then get me a cake 9 days later, I'm sure glad you got me a cake, but you did it later than you said and didn't say sorry for doing it later than expected, so I'm going to be a little upset with you.

 

Ah, didn't quite get you. I thought it was about the dates. I agree that devs' behavior was, you know, strange for last weeks.

I think that the communication with the devs is essential. But at some point it stopped being communication and started being the opposite. And, you know... he should be MORE active? Damn, he has to sell his house and buy himself a matrix port then.
Also, yup, it looks I'm doing the saame thing. Ouch.

 

So from all these comments i have learnt that the fanbase at least ranges from around 6years old. Big audience. Basically If i were to ever make a game in the future and it was good - I just wouldn't tell anyone. As soon as you start appeasing a few people's needs they just crave more.

I love the updates - I don't expect them. I will love beta - I'm happy whenever that will be. I will love the game - I've already bought it.
I can also find other things to do with my life in the meantime. All the haters just relax - you'll buy the game anyway and it'll be brilliant and you'll still moan.
Tiy just don't feed the fire, take your time and don't waste it replying to grumps.

 

Well he sold 55K (roughly) versions of the game as pre-order. What did you honestly think would happen, that people stay quite and wrote only yay and woho and 1A in the comments of daily news? Sorry, i know i can be a bit sarcastic, but honestly. It isn´t a suprise.... did allready say last week it will only get worse with each week and month that passes by.

I admire Tiy and the Team if they really keep up their community work. But honestly, 55K potential people and they are 5? Or 6 people? I couldnt handle that for more then 2-3 months, personally.

 

If there's any misunderstanding, it's on your part Tiy. I'm not saying I paid for any of those things. I'm not saying you owe me anything for my purchase. What I'm saying is that as people who share the same Earth, there is a social contract among all of us that if we wrong eachother, and do not make amends for that, there is a respect lost. In this case, you have wronged us by misleading us, and thus respect for you is lost. It's a bother for someone in a position like yours, but you should know by now that you can't say anything frivolously. And by the way, if something is delayed, then you should tell us it's delayed. Not simply do it later without addressing the fact and admitting the error, then try to blow off any criticism as 'entitlement'. I am sorry if at any point I have offended you, but this is how I feel.

Personally, I never asked for a daily update by the way. I've said you shouldn't do them, and that it causes the kind of negative hype no one likes to deal with.

Tell me, Gaikang, who owns Starbound? Is it you, or even the community? No, Chucklefish owns Starbound, and they're gonna do as they damn well please with everything pertaining to it. If they can't make a deadline, don't give them flak about it. My suggestion to you is to find another game, buy the company, and make sure everything is done perfectly on time, no matter the consequence. At least then you can be assured that your peace of mind and perfect schedule will be exactly tailored to your wishes.

No, he did say it would be updated prior. I share Gaikang's feelings regarding whenever a missed self-imposed deadline is missed and silence follows it. I also did bring it up before, but more aimed at the answers that didn't follow rather than the silence itself.

Edit: As for release dates, about mid way through last year it was that release would be around early december (if i remember correctly), then before the end of the year, then early january, now 2013.
