Wat are you blabbering about? There is this nifty thing called time zones. Not everyone is set to a certain time.

Point? The team is scattered around most of the western world. And to be honest, I can care less if the road map gets updated or not. I'd rather them spend time on the game instead of updating that silly thing, even more so now that they do their daily updates.

My point is that they said they would update the roadmap monthly, and the roadmap has yet to be updated this month. I care if this team can commit to anything at all and stand by their word. I care if everything they say they're going to do turns out to be a thoughtless lie, with no shame or apology.

I doubt it would take the huge amount of time to update the roadmap that people think. It would probably be good for the whole team to Skype (or something) together and spend an hour or two going through piece-by-piece to get a more accurate look at where the entire game, as a whole, stands.

It is rapidly becoming not May, Tiy. Are you really going to add another lie to your laundry list of deceit?

Well let´s see what will happen today. They should have allready done that, i mean know where the game stands at least. With 56K on preorders they got a obligitation to do now the things they told... it´s not longer only the core community that says "oh it will not work? Fine, we can live with that because we are hardcore fans!" xD

As a sidenote, at least it´s a good day for Risk of Rain! ^^

How many times has this roadmap even updated? Looks like this topic was started on April 26th, 2013... meaning it has only ever been updated the once.

Don't forget that the different team members are spread across the globe, living in different time zones and having different working and sleeping schedules. This alone can account for the daily updates not being there every day at the same time.

You notice the updates don't come at the same time, but have you also noticed they even post on sundays? Most of us are very happy with a 2-day weekend, some are happy with 1 day. It seems the dev team isn't even taking a single day off from working on Starbound. How cool is that?

Tiy always said he wanted to release a fully working game. They've also not spent "weeks on time" on making recipes. A few days or a week at most, sure... But then again there are perhaps hundreds of different recipes, so someone has to do it.

    *shrug*
I try to take it as it comes. If they want to take a day off to be with their family, I'm happy to wait a day longer on beta.

There have been rumours that Tiy's working hard on moving the server over to a new host. I suspect stuff like that might interfere with an agenda.
Why do you say "deceit"? Do you really feel that Tiy or other members of the team are purposely stringing you along?
Why not chalk up some earlier miscommunications/announcements as learning mistakes/growing pains? I suspect you'd like the same treatment when you're doing something entirely new and have to find stuff out for yourself.

Yeah, really a shame that people can only base there decision to buy the game on the roadmap, daily updates about option menues and intros and like 5 youtube videos. Would there be only a possibility to show people that there is really a step forward in the devolopment. Shame on that.

But good to see you try to keep the faith up.

    @Katarone:

You got very good points and i agree with that. I wouldnt even be angry if they take the weekends off and get some relax time, but in that case they shouldnt spike the anticipation of the community. They should say honestly that they will not make anything at a weekend on updates or bigger news because they want to relaxe some time. There, no harm done.

Actually, even that isn't true when you refer to the whole devteam. The devteam usually works on several things at once, different people with different abilities and their own schedules - and in the light of that I see no problem with adding hundreds of edibles as it very well may be some team member filling time with something that s/he can do for the game while waiting for others to finish their workload before work on more vital features can progress.

Not to mention that with expectations bar as high as it is, it's playing safe to have the game reasonably polished.

Couldn't agree more. It would be very different if bartwe suddenly was doing monkey work, because that would actually delay release.

From what I've seen, Tiy is a good director. Able to have a helicopter view of the issues and assigning the best person to the job. He'd probably make an awesome manager.

yeah the production for this game seems to be ridiculously hectic, and everyone seems to make it work between them. there have been no big fights between devs, no disagreements (that weve seen). Tiy seems to manage everything and everyone really really well, and this is a guy just working on something he loves. Its incredible, and i couldnt imagine being in his position.

I was just using this nitpicking speculation to hypothesize they wouldn't update The Roadmap. I said we're spoiled with the updates, it's not a huge deal. I'd take a weekly Roadmap/text update over the daily ones, I think, but that's just me.

"Fully working" doesn't necessarily mean "thousands of niche cooking items have been implemented". This is far from the core of the game and seems more of an afterthought. I'll enjoy immersing myself in the opportunities, I'm sure, but even in games like WoW, I'd only cook or craft as a diversion from the mainstays. It's just my style and opinion, however.

By questioning what they're emphasizing, I meant the cooking and such. I know the dev team is comprised of, what, 15-20 people? And I know cooking isn't all they're doing obviously. I feel that as opposed to more minute things they could've just updated The Roadmap instead of telling us it'd be monthly and then not do it for nearly two months. It is a much smaller commitment than a beta release and they usually don't make their deadlines, but it still doesn't sit well with me that a commitment so small and yet symbolic to the community couldn't be lived up to. Also, take a vacation, devs - 7 day work weeks are pretty inhumane, even if you're at home with your family - just give me a Roadmap update so I can look away from the website for a while with you.

Perhaps the term deceit is a bit excessive, but some of me understands some venom one might feel at this point. We've consistently lowered expectations, held out for less and less, and while the daily updates prove they aren't just doing blow in the coding room and chuckling (sorry) spitefully, I think we just wanted the small thing they said they'd give. What does it say for the "2013 release" when small things like this can come and go? Nevertheless we all want the game and will remain steadfast in being addicted to the community and debating trivialities such as these.

I'm backing down. I almost want no commitments anymore. Take your time, devs, you're brilliant - the only expectation I'll foolishly set (and it's more of a dream) is to have this game during my summer break.

Ah, I wasn't sure. I think I was basing this on the sprites on the Roadmap/the sprites on the ship for the $1,000,000 landmark photo, or whatever.

Who's to say how important cooking is in the game? We know there's hunger, and that buffs are possible. The beta would be feature complete.
Also, as Witness said... Someone who can't really contribute to the development could be handling the cooking recipes.

Nine devs, according to the road map. With a few helpers/freelancers on the side.
I don't know if you've ever been in a situation where you're working very hard, but have a tough time to tell anyone about what you actually did.
It's better for the devs to pick a few items people can recognize and talk about, than telling about how many lines of code they wrote or some obscure bug that got squashed.

You weren't the one who said "deceit" though. This was a quote of someone else.
And sure, I do know what you're talking about. You're enthusiastic and you're disappointed that self-imposed deadlines aren't met. But as I said before, they're switching servers so it's expected. I highly doubt this server move was planned a long time ago. It's just something that got in the way.
At this point they still have almost 7 months to do the beta and finish the game. Seeing the progress/improvements they've made over the last few weeks, I don't doubt they'll succeed.

  19. Gaikang

The core team consists of 9 individuals, and then there are 10 "contributors"

Yeah, I claim that they've failed on their word many times, with this just being the most recent example. It becomes deceit in my eyes when instead of going like "Sorry guys, we're not going to be able to do whatever it is that we said we would in time, due to bad planning on our part," they ignore the issue and move on like they never erred. However, I'm done caring. I'm done complaining about this kind of stuff. Tell me as many sweet little lies as you want, Tiy.
