Long time, but my "cheat" stopped working, so my creation went much slower to build....

Well, we left off with getting our fuel depot running, and the capability to build on our ocean floor. However, we ran into some problems on the ocean floor... flooding. Our simple building techniques needed refined before we could hope to have the skill of building underwater. So instead of risking death by drowning... we decided to build a ship refuel station on the snow planet by our fuel pumping station.

First, for a proper fueling station we need a good platform to land on, and a storage area for goods and supplies, as well as a fuel pump.

Next we have the power station up on the hill. The constant winds of the area provide enough power for the station. Upon entering the station from the double air lock, you are greeted with a lovely sitting area, with a full kitchen at your disposal.

Going lower in the facility, are the bathrooms and facility storage areas. Next we have the boiler room to keep the place warm. The piping travels all throughout the facility for good coverage on the cold, snowy nights. Under that is the sleeping quarters.

At the bottom we have the lab, and the bottom access. We plan on having a resident scientist set up a bio chamber off to the side of the complex to gain some food sources for the facility, so we don't have to waste fuel transporting food back and forth.

And there you have it... our first attempt at a fully modern facility. It's not very stylistic, but we have learned much from the project. We can hopefully begin work underwater soon, once we tweak a few things here and there.

In other news, we've had a few families stop by wanting to colonize, but we don't have the space for them yet. They have agreed to live aboard their ships for the time being, while we work to accommodate them. But we will get to those details later....
Time to build some more housing.

Great build, as I've come to expect from you! I've got a character for you, if you wish to include him:

Nym Galtby, a Novakid dilettante who's traveled the galaxy and has a great many stories to tell. He's rather a jack of all trades, master of none; he can cook a bit, has some experience in prospecting, farming, starshining, and he even plays a bit of the banjo. He's got a very odd repertoire of knowledge gleaned from his ramblings across the galaxy, and is pragmatic to the point of fatalism. Nym's always sort of "out of the frying pan, into the fire." (Think The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy's Ford Prefect.) He's got a casual disrespect for galactic laws, but is very loyal and amiable to small groups and organizations, and has an off-key sense of humor. His ship's gone and gotten caught in the orbit of one of your planets, and it's up you whether to just send him on his way or offer to let him help out on the colonies. He'd likely be of most use setting up a gunsmithy or starshine distillery.

Nym's one of my main RP characters, and I thought his sort of loosely-defined moral code would offer some nice contrast in this world, and I'd love to see him included!

A little more of a traditional build back on our starter system. With more and more people stopping by our little system, some are wanting to look around a little more, and possibly relocate. We have the materials for this, but not the infrastructure. Our Ocean Floor city is still being developed, and can't be opened until completion, for risk of accidental drownings.

So, in lieu of our limitations, we have opted to use what we have. What we have is large amounts of fabric and wood but no transportation.
    Light bulb!
    Ships.
Our first sailing vessel has been built to transport between islands.

As the sun sets, we ready the vessel for its maiden voyage in the morning.

As we set sail, the wind is strong, and the sun bright from atop the crows nest.

Today our shipment is building supplies to another island to begin more construction projects, and food for our workers.

@Zoch I love the idea of that character, and will add him soon.
@jokekid I am using Rydian's trainer for faster construction and infinite building materials, along with /admin if needed. I'm keeping it somewhat "legit" by harvesting large amounts of lumber/stone/clay as building materials, then swapping them out for the new materials... because much of the blocks can't be crafted yet.

I don't think i will ever be able to build something as nice and detailed. Looks just ready to set sail and cross the ocean.
    Great!

detail is amazing, however the hull's shape could be better, looking pretty plain, and i know YOU of all people can do a lot better, do keep in mind though, that the detail is perfect, great use of blocks and furniture :p

Previously, we got a ship going around the ocean to better transport goods and people. We also traveled around the planet, mapping out all the islands. We found some interesting things.

A few months ago, some supplies went missing from our pagoda storage vault. They were mostly building supplies and some food stuffs. Ruin was livid. He had taken up the mantel of protecting the colony, and has great experience commanding armies... but we are just colonists. He instituted a guard schedule for our main island, and we now keep our fuel depo and science station locked down until contacted by a cleared ship. Lorne and Tanno seemed mighty uneasy about all the increased security, but we all had a sit down to discuss the future of our colony. Tabi and myself discussed with the others our vision of a peaceful and honorable society that would excel in the defensive arts of old. Ruin especially liked that last part... but Lorne kept glancing at Tanno, and eventually voiced his concerns. He was concerned that we need liberty and privacy, and should be free to pursue our own talents and pleasures. Ruin interjected, stating that anyone who isn't hiding anything shouldn't have to worry about security, but I calmed him and agreed with Tanno's sentiments. It was clear what needed done. We needed to officially become a society. But before that could happen, we needed a central gathering point. So it was agreed that we would build our first dojo, and have our government work from there.

So we set out to find a suitable space for our new dojo... when we ran across the missing supplies.

There on a little island, was a house built up in the same manor as our settlement, even with one of our flags. No one seemed to be around, so we docked to look around. Ruin, Daru and I ventured through the unlocked door, after no one answered our knocking. The first floor had two main rooms, one full of tools and workbench space, the other a large smelter unit and refinery. A partially assembled firearm sat on the bench, still warm. We headed upstairs to see if we could find the owner to this place. The second floor had a kitchen and dinning area, with a balcony on both sides. Ruin heard a noise above him, and hushed us. We slowly went up the next set of stairs, and paused at the top. To our left was a library and sitting area, and to the right was were the noise was coming from, behind a door. Ruin signaled he wanted to break the door down, but I had a better plan...

As the door opened from the bathroom, a startled Novakid saw a hylotl and two glitch sitting in his library.
"Hey! I don't recall letting anyone in here!"
"Accusing. And I don't recall giving you permission to take our supplies to build this place..." Snapped Ruin, slipping momentarily into his old glitch speech.
I stood and slightly bowed "I apologize for my friend here, we mean no harm. My name is Gillist, what is your name?"
"Just call me Nym, and why are you here?" the novakid quipped.
"We are on our way to build a new dojo for our colony to form a society. However, we noticed that these are our missing supplies from a few months back... care to tell us why you didn't just ask us for help?"
The novakid thought for a long moment, struggling it seemed for too long. "Hmm, I do remember building this place... but I can't recall where I got the materials from. You'll have to forgive me, I have a rather random memory."
    Ruin huffed "yeah, convenient."

The conversation continued, and we eventually found out that this novakid was quite a jack of all trades. His shop was for building weapon and machine parts. He had many stories to tell, and we humored him, well, most of us did. Nym agreed to joining up with us as a colony member, which was nice for it would have been awkward kicking him out of a house he had already built and furnished. He also has a ship that is fairly capable, but out of fuel. Because we don't store much fuel here, he hadn't found any to take to leave the system... instead finding our building and food supplies. So all in all, an interesting character has joined us, and we continued on our search for a suitable island.

And we found it. Well, two islands really. So we built a bridge to connect them.
The suspended style would help keep the bridge from buckling under the shifting of the islands... and looks quite appealing too.

Then we set to work building the dojo proper.

    The left entrance
    [IMG]
You can see the entryway with a statue that Daru made of me (He doesn't speak much, but his actions are quite novel). This has a staircase that leads up to the 2nd story balcony and to the 3rd story kitchen and dinning room.
The main room is a pillared room with an inset floor. The 4th floor is the Dojo masters quarters. The Master will live at the dojo, to focus on the matters of most importance.

    The right entrance
    [IMG]
This entrance is more of a patio and houses the student sleeping quarters above it.
The right staircase leads to the same floors, but houses the library and weapon stores

If you noticed, main room floor has a space on both sides.... this is to get to the basement areas.
The way down is unlit and has locked doors at both ends, for security. This will be where we conduct more important matters for the colony, or use as overflow for training. The main room down here features another sculpture done by Daru (I think he has been listening to my wife's history stories of our lost world a bit too intently), and a full glass wall to view the ocean. Then there is a personal room and a hall to the ocean drop area, complete with sealed doors. Another personal room sits on the other side of the ocean access, with a full glass wall, like the opposite room.

The hall leads into the main farm for the building.
But first, we have the physical knowledge repository. This is a gift to Tabi, my wife. She is an avid historian, and we have collected a great many books, scrolls and artifacts... but have had no place to put them. Now we at least have a space for the books. Also, the farm. 75 plants are grown to supply much more food for this island area. We will also put surface farms, but this should make the building self sufficient.

So there you have it! Our new Dojo is up and going, and soon we will have a government set up. Time marches on.

As you may have all guessed, the new update caused me some more issues for this series....

But I took the time to look through some better options to make the series more of a legit series and not just a collection of builds. After some other members and I tried to unsuccessfully revive the corporate sub forums, I've decided to keep the flame alive in story and build. Therefore, this series will be rolled into another for the time being, soon to be posted. I'll be using mods this time, to suppliment the story as needed, and to make things fully legit. I'll update my build rules on the new post too and provide a link here once it is up.

    See you all soon!

I like the serious mod collection. It has frakin universe, science!, bees, blocks and many other enhanced mods that don't break the difficulty or immersion. I especially will like the blocks and science mods, for I can craft all the blocks for my projects instead of substitute them, and sift the rest into usable parts.

Yeah, just go to the properties in your steam library and set it to never update. Then you can control when to update. And I believe the serious mod pack collection won't destroy your universe... You just have to go into an unexplored region to get the new materials. But the crafting unlock is quite good. :)

EDIT: Here is the modpack, for those whom are interested - http://community.playstarbound.com/resources/s3r1ous-mods.1358/

Double EDIT: Actually, I forgot the never update was taken away a while back... so instead you just set it to only update when launched, and just not launch it via steam. Launch it directly from the .exe in the starbound folder.

I'm making the rule pack for the new post, and would like some feedback....

    Rules -------------------------
Run as a kingdom. Civilians are key to all things. Keep them happy, busy and healthy, or the kingdom will fall.

Civilians will fulfill the following roles...
1- An individual will be needed per each crafting bench of all types. (no multi specialties)
2- Each individual will need basic necessities, including food, shelter, clothing and occupation.
3- More advanced individuals will require higher levels of their necessities and additional things like recreation.
4- Levels for population totals are -
--10x food plants per citizen to not have starvation. May be increased by high tech cooking methods or large stockpiles.
--1x population housing to not have crowding. Will also need sanitation to not have unhealthy living conditions.
--3x population clothing to not have low moral.
--1x population for occupation to not have unemployment.

Acceptable housing will include the following...
    1- sealed space (walls, backwall)
    2- Light source
    3- Access point (door)
4- Furniture (bed, dresser/chest, chair, table)
5- Systems (air if in airless environment, heat/cool for balanced temp)

Acceptable towns will include the following...
    1- housing for residents
    2- sanitation system
    3- food sources
    4- shops/crafting areas
5- defense buildings (walls, towers, gates, barracks, armory, ect)
6- storage and treasury (barn, bank, general store)
    Larger towns will include...
7- enhanced buildings (power systems, landing pads, transport systems)
8- additional buildings (gathering places, gardens, recreational areas, religious buildings, science buildings)

Towns will be graded on an image matrix...
1- +/- (1-3) food levels (starvation vs plenty)
2- (0-10) food diversity (meats, grains, fruits, vegetables, sugars, starches, specialties, racial, and sources of water/oil)
3- +/- (1-3) housing levels (crowding vs spacious)
    4- +/- (1-3) moral (clothed, sanitation)
    5- +/- (1-3) employment (unemployment vs demand)
6- (0-10) town advances (tech level, building variety, aesthetics)
A strong positive score will encourage higher level trade, stronger citizen attraction/retention, and better fighting moral.
A strong negative score will cause citizen discontent, less fighting moral, and eventual rebellion/abandonment.

Tech level will be determined per town via crafting benches available to that town.

Nothing in a town may be simply spawned, it must be created or traded for. When starting out, basics need to be covered asap. The town will grow as more people generate, needing more services and buildings as it grows. The quality of buildings will also improve, as more specialists are generated.

Once a town reaches steel grade, a government can be formed. This gives you the ability to generate taxes, create civilization bonuses (expanding citizens skills), make fleets, and colonize past the starting planet. The purpose is to reach endgame level with a large, mutli system civilization. Perhaps multiple civilizations at odds with each other... ;)

    --------------------------

Does it seem too complicated? With the addition of the new mods, there is a lot more content to get through. So I want to run it at a slower pace, but with a larger population. This past one didn't grow large enough for my liking.
