Apex seem like they'd be at least interesting for roleplaying purposes, but they're a bit too Planet of the Apesy for me.

It's unfair to say I'd restrict myself from any aspect of the game. I'll make an Apex. I just won't enjoy it as much as a Floran or Glitch, probably

The Glitch>The Florans> The Humans, would probably be the only races I play. With that said after release I am positive there will be a flood of races added to the game and I will most likely play those.

Your particular character doesn't have to be like this. A player's character has the perfect excuse to be the exception to the rule. Not content with the limitations of their own society, it's why they're out there... seeking, learning and growing. They're the one that's different.

What, and you think any of the other races are any different? We're greedy, selfish and we abuse our planet because thats what makes us survive, we are populous because of these acts. We may not think they're nice, but you can guarantee any sufficiently successful species such as ourselves will act exactly the same. You think animals of the same species don't cause problems for each other? You think animals aren't greedy or selfish? You'd be wrong. If you hate humanity for those traits, then you must hate all living organisms.

We aren't the only animal that drives species extinct, for example, feral species. Anything that survives better in an environment than something else will utilize the resources of that animal without giving a damn, eventually driving that animal to extinction, if you want examples see Rabbits vs Bilbies. This goes for every species on the planet, if it can survive better than something else and drive its opposition extinct then it will.

The reason those species are considered a pest and humans are not is because we own this planet, we are the dominant species and you can guarantee any other dominant species would behave exactly as we do. Anything that evolves to respect its environment and other species has evolved insufficiently to survive, life is cruel and unforgiving, the strong survive and the weak perish.

I am not, by any means, claiming that we should still live this way. However I am pointing out that you are hating us for something inherent in ALL species. All an animal (including humans) wants to do is live, sleep and mate. To do so requires greed. This isn't some "sin" or anything of the sort, it is a survival trait, and you should be grateful for it, otherwise you would not exist.

I love my fellow man, this is a genetic norm. If you are disgusted by your fellow man, something is wrong. Furthermore a genetic mixup shouldn't be offensive because everyones genetics are inherently different, while you share a great deal of them with your parents there are still some substantial differences that make you an individual. What may be mixed up in yourself causing you to feel a distaste for humanity may not be present in your parents. If you are offended then that is unfortunate. I apologize if you took offense, but I also don't really care.

I probably do have several genetic mixups, their existence doesn't offend me, and if you were to point them out I'd be grateful if anything, I would hence learn more about myself. (For example, I actually lack a muscle in my forearm, this may be genetic or a birth defect, I'm not sure, but it interests me nonetheless).

It was an observation rather than an insult, you would be the better man if your hatred was directed toward me as an individual rather than the entirety of humanity. If the actions of the few drive your opinion of the many, you are biased, and far too easy to judge others.

Furthermore, a genetic mixup or mistake is not inherently a detriment, hence not an insult. If you take it as such then that is on you, not me.

Not really, birds are just cool. Ever watch a 12lb rooster beat up a grown man? It's hilarious while at the same time sad that the rooster has more balls than an animal with over 10x the weight on it.

Well its less to do with balls and more to do with a lack of real survival instinct. Chickens are idiots, they're adorable and delicious but they're still idiots. So even if they haven't a chance in hell of winning they'll try to fight it off, and that works on people because even though we could break its neck easily, we generally want to avoid pain and causing pain.

Humans only do what their genetics program them to do-- avoid pain and seek out pleasure. We evolved so that these same behaviors also aid our survival.

Try to imagine a robot that has is programmed so that there are certain variables act like pleasure and pain. When their sensors detect low energy, for example, it might feel an unpleasant sort of 'hunger', which the robot recognizes can be fixed by finding a power source. It might only know that it needs power, but it might not know how-- It has to create a new solution from it's environment the way people do. Humans are bound by their genetic programming, but what makes them unique is how they learn to express themselves and meet their programmed needs, and is what makes each Glitch unique.

Likewise, a male and female Glitch are probably drawn to each other by 'pleasurable' variables and sense data. These feelings grow into a bond that instinctively drives them to build a child together. So it isn't just pleasure or just pain-- both are used to influence us towards certain behaviors, and we can deal with them in any way we choose even if it goes against our instincts. It may go against our programming to starve ourselves, for example, but we may do so anyway so that our children can eat enough to survive. There is a complex process of conflicting stress from different sources that allows us to make these choices, and theoretically a computer can be designed the same way.

Of course, no A.I. exists on Earth today that is designed this way; not that I know of anyway. Don't assume that the future will stay the same.

Anyway, I think Humans are boring/normal, but that's kinda the point. I don't get why the Apex get so much grief, though. I'm remembering episodes of Captain Simian and the Space Monkeys when I was younger, and Planet of the Apes is a Sci-Fi classic. The way I see it, the relationship between the Humans and Apex will be a really interesting aspect of their backstory that will add something special to the game. I think the only reason not to like them is that Humans are technically apes already... Anyway I'm finding it very hard to choose what I want first because they all seem awesome to me, but that's why I'll be saving Human for last.

That is completely untrue about chickens being idiots. I'm going off topic but this guy dissed birds so I gotta respond. Click spoiler below if anyone wants to read a small bit of my experience with birds, which I must dare-say is a good read after looking at it again.

I have been around chickens my whole life, they have about half the capacity of my Labrador Retreiver to learn. This is a rough guess, but I taught them verbal commands and they have higher capacity for intelligent behavior than other farm animals.

An example is them developing search patterns when looking for food in a maze. The flyers and runners (some can actually fly) constantly learn my tricks for catching them, I have a rooster that will just eyeball me as I try to get him with a net and he jumps or dodges it non-stop. They learn and respond to verbal commands, like 'put up' and one particular hen learned to 'heel'. I learned early that chickens recognize faces and how people act. If a stranger comes near by the roosters get aggressive like a guard dog on his territory.

This is all my personal experience and only a small bit of it, I done lots of things with birds because before I got the internet I had tons of time out here on the farm. I still consider it a hobby, and now I think about it I do wonder if I am breeding 'smart birds' because at all the animal shows the other birds are complete dolts. Is this lack of proper training or genetics, I'm not sure. But I do know chickens are smarter than cattle. Lots of my cattle will just stare at a fence-post for hours on end.

Now an animal that at least matches a good hunting dog in intellect is the common raven, Corvus Corax. I teach the wild raven clutch near my woods to fly around my property. They play swords with each other using sticks and will fly down to mess with my dogs for fun, I seen this personally. I keep them around and work with them because they naturally attack hawks who fly around here, and hawks were one of my main causes of poultry mortality. The ravens recognize me and won't go near anyone else, plus they cackle and complain at me if I bring whole corn instead of cracked corn. The juvenile offspring got used to me much quicker than the parents initially did, likely learned from their parents.

I will less likely to play as Glitch. Their overall design is too boxy/square-ish for my taste. I was expecting them to be like futuristic robot look like. Their theme is overused in many games nowadays.
