The problem with the boss right now above all else is the glitched third phase where the hit-box for the bottom lasers don't match up with the visuals.

I have tried this so many times, the slightest mistake and it is all over. I love the new games, but, if I cant get past this bit, I am stuck. Really spoiling my enjoyment of the games.

Best way I found to kill the Erchius boss, is to carry 50+ bandaids with you.

When you jump down into the room, keep your bandaids on a hotkey bar and select them. You won't be needing a weapon, so don't bother. Go straight to the first terminal and hit it and go either clockwise or counter-clockwise around the room, hitting the terminals. When the lasers come out, try to dodge them but don't forget which terminals you hit! When all of them are hit, throw the center switch and zap him.

At some point, flesh monsters will start spawning. IMO, just ignore them. Anytime you get hit, pop a bandaid. Might also want to eat a food before you jump down into the room too. Just pop bandaids as fast as you can to keep the med buff up. Assuming you're not standing in the lasers for prolonged period of time, the bandaids should heal you faster than the lasers can hurt you, especially if you also use a food buff.

If you're getting low on bandaids, try going to a "Lush" planet, and walk along the surface, swinging a weapon at all the foilage to collect hundreds of plant fibres to make more.

That said, I do think that this boss is a bit harsh for a "First Boss", especially when a couple of the other "bosses" are so hilarious.

The Penguin Saucer? lol. Easy. Just walk side-to-side spamming bandaids until he tries to ram you with the ship and hack him with a 2h weapon.

Penguin Mech? even more laughable. Again, bandaids. Just jump up and down at the far side of the wall (Pulse Jump helps) to avoid his charges. Getting hit with the energy balls is LOL, who cares?

Floran Party/Prison? Bring 100+ bandaids and a gun (or compound bow) to kill the snipers with. If done right, you can shoot them but they can't shoot you. Just avoid the poison.

The Erchius Boss though.... IMO too harsh for being the first boss. The First Boss shouldn't be the hardest boss in the game. I like the creativity, I just think the challenge is a little over-the-top.

That's a failing of game balance right there. /admin shouldn't be something some players are forced to use to progress past certain required missions. It's all due to the lack of the alternative progression routes, namely the renting system and farming.

Even if we had the Renting System and the Farming, you are still required to kill the Erchius Boss before using your FTL drive, which means no getting better ore, which means no getting better armor to try to overcome the challenge using better equipment.

In any other game, you'd go get better equipment (or get some more XP levelups) and then try again if you weren't quite skilled enough to do it. In this game, ALL the bosses block next tiers of equipment, and you simply cannot even attempt to get better equipment without beating these bosses. They are literal roadblocks.

There's no way whatsoever to get stronger, beyond "get better gear" which you can't do until you beat the bosses.

EDIT: While it is theoretically possible to get better weapons (get lucky with a good purple), weapons don't do much of anything with the Erchius Boss fight, sadly. It is all about armor and survivability. 'Best you could do is farm planets of your starting system, and pray for a good shield to be found somewhere. Otherwise, getting stronger is not an option whatsoever.

You don't get it, the renting and farming system of progress are meant as complete alternatives to the dungeons, you'd be able to repair the FTL drive without that boss dungeon via those two methods.

I must have missed a blog post saying that, then.

That would be really nice, if we could get the Erchius Crystals that way instead of fighting that stupid boss.

Don't get me wrong, I like the idea of the mission (though the flesh monsters' projectiles are annoying to try to dodge though), the boss mechanics-wise is cool.... it is just way overtuned.

If given the option, I'd probably skip it with farming lol.

Tbh they never said that. At least as far as i know.

Last thing i heard them say was that the allternative progress path's would divert from the main part after a while (may very well be after fixing the ship).

Well, it should be where you can avoid the dungeon entirely. Let's face it, the first mandatory dungeon in this game is the absolute worst out of all of them, and the boss and lack of checkpoints makes this all the worse. Frankly, the dungeon should be split into two missions and instances. The first is the dungeon itself, and the second starts you off in an identical room with the bed just above the boss room, so that you don't have to start all over again through the entire mining facility if/when you die.

*shrugs* Im just passing the info i have obtained along.

In my humble opinion they should at least add a check point before the boss for those that die on it aloot. But thats all my thoughts on how that mission "should be".

I think with some balance changes the mission would not be that bad. Personally...

1). Reduce the range on that blood spray from the flesh mobs by about 25%.
2). Flesh Sprays should do about 25% less damage.
3). Nerf the crazed 2h hammer guy's damage output by about 30%, that guy seriously can kill you in 3 hits flat and the first one you find is in a narrow hallway with no quick escape, kinda lame and cheap IMO.
4). Fix the boss's laser graphics.
5). Nerf the number of adds spawned during the boss fight (1-2 less fleshing monsters)
6). Nerf the lasers' damage by about 25%.

This would make the boss a lot more reasonable, and a lot fewer people would die on it IMO.

1/2. beam like attacks are stupid powerful in the game if you let one catch you. I could see it being slightly shorter. Might be moot when other weapons get specials like the two handed sword block. Like I hope two handed hammers get a power slam stun or knockback. Combat generally is too fast and hectic and over in seconds compared to the slower pace of the rest of the game.
    3. I think they are fine in theory being so powerful. The first one, you can run away from easily... once you know you should anyway. opening doors on the run is not too hard. I do think they should be just slightly slower and have "epic monster" red particles so you know they are something to run away from instead of trying to bludgeon it like the first moontants you encounter.
The other two are easy to cheese or run from with a handily provided platform.
    4. unstable patch notes say they will be next stable, hooray!
    5. See point 1. More combat options could make effecting max spawn number unnecessary.
    6. Once all phases work properly. point 4 and combat options to deal with any spawns on the lower level. It should be easier to concentrate and avoid beams.

Its easier to make it hard then pull back difficulty a little bit at a time as one change can change multiple factors easily. Like more special weapon moves alone could effect a lot of incoming or outgoing damage. Than to make something too easy and try and make it harder. Unfortunately, CF has done a lot of Cart before the Horse development.

I felt the boss was challenging, but neither hard or easy, it felt balanced to me. I beat it on the first encounter, of course I had the best gear available at the time, brought around 50 bandages and used a 2 handed sword to block the exploding balls it shoots occasionally when I couldn't dodge them in time. I can see dying to it then having to run all the way back being a pain in the neck, but overall, I felt the boss was pretty on par.

in my opinion, the bosses as stand should probably go something like

Dreadwing -> Floran Party -> Mines -> Robot

    Or

Dreadwing -> Floran Party -> Robot -> Mines

Obviously, the numbers should be changed to adjust for higher or lower tiers, but I feel like Dreadwing presents almost no new mechanics nor special rules, as its attack patterns and mobs are very simple. Floran Party is a very interesting dungeon, but as it is now, lacks a memorable and challenging finale (if the thing most players remember the best is the poison trap chest, your finale is weak). The Robot is an awesome boss, with complex attack patterns that might take a little while to learn and get used to. It is also the first (and right now, the only) boss that is so strong, the player has to learn its patterns or come really well-prepared. The Mines have tons of flavor and the boss actually bends the rules of the game, which makes him a bit harder than he is (with only two types of attack, he has pretty simple patterns), but requires the player to think out of the box, which is a bit weird for the first major combat encounter as one would naturally expect the game to test their knowledge of the mechanics before throwing them out of the window.

Maybe my play through was unusual, but I found several really nice guns in the base, including a sniper rifle and a rocket launcher. It also helped having the lantern on a stick. Some light being better than nothing after all.

It's much too hard for that point in the game. I've died 5 times on wave 2 (every single time from failing the platforming and falling through the beams), checked the forums to find out there's a third, harder wave after that, and have absolutely no interest in playing the game until this is fixed.

It's the first time in the game you're guaranteed to encounter a hostile environment that none of your learned skills can help you with - can't build a wall to block, can't plant torches for light, basically the designers have gone "yeah, all that stuff you've learned, ha ha!" and left everyone to sink.

    It needs either :
    • an alternate progression route (so you can skip this sort of silliness until you've got better equipment)
    • a checkpoint so I can skip going through the entire complex once more for no purpose other than the developers want to annoy me (the complex itself isn't all that hard, getting hit multiple times by the spitters is a bit of a pain, but kiting the possessed miners is trivial)
    • AND better tutorials (shields? swords blocking lasers? they're two mechanics that have not been needed at up until this point and haven't been taught anywhere or even hinted at; where's the tutorial about "dungeons can't be modified" before you're thrown into a hard one?).
I've got plenty of bandages, but co-ordinating platforming to avoid lasers, pulling switches and using bandages all at the same time is at the upper limit of my ability here, and I have no interest in returning to the game until I see this properly fixed in the patch notes (and no, tinkering with wave 3 is not a fix). And no, having a built in cheat-mode, is not the solution.

He's not too hard, especially since you can hide underneath the bottom platform and heal when needed.

The only problem is the third phase, when it bugs out and damages you 35 hp a second even if you are hit or not when you leave the bottom platform
