The next wipe is going to make me sad

I have no idea what you guys mean by character wipe, ever since I downloaded the game, I have never once had my character deleted by Chucklefish or whoever. unless you mean if I want to enjoy the new content that they added, i'll have to delete my character and start a new one myself?

I really hope that they explain that the next wipe doesn't necessarily mean that it will be the last one. They said that they are working on a system to be able to remove the requirement for player wipes after that, which doesn't mean that it will be during the next wipe. Either way, I love starting from scratch, so it doesn't bother me none, especially because all of signed up for the beta with the assumptions that there would be wipes.

 

I think you're twisting my words. I have never made a claim that the next patch will have a wipe, its others, and they are claiming that it will be the last one. I said the feature may not make it in the next patch. I am simply saying that is is just as equally as possible for this feature not to be in the next patch as much as its possible to be. The next patch might not even have the feature or a wipe. It could be anything. There are others in this thread that seem to make the immediate assumption that this wipe-less feature will definitely make it in the next patch without really stating any proof that it will; Tiy is simply mentioning that they are working on it does not count, there is no concrete date. I am trying to prevent an inevitable riot of threads should further wipes happen. There is no proof that it will on the next patch. There is no proof in that it won't be either.

I want that feature to come in just as much as everyone else does, but I'm not going to agree on anything to save myself the disappointment, that's why I'm telling everyone not to get their hopes up high.

Basically, yes. There has only been one forced wipe, and that happened at the beginning of the next week the beta first released. After that, so far updates have included no need for wipes, or optional to the point where you won't see 100% of the changes unless you start anew.

Not at all. As I mentioned, or implied(maybe not as clearly as I intended to) - this system won't forcefully save your characters from being wipe, but will store them\give opportunity to transfer save to a new build, IF you so desire, without forcing it to everybody.

 

That makes a bit more sense, but it sounds like a system where all it does is just copy and paste appearances of your character, (which is easy enough to do from memory) not keeping your ship, inventory, recipes, etc.

 

Wipes suck, but if I know they're going to happen, I try not to get too invested in my characters. Even though I've spent over 30 hours total on the game so far, I haven't even gotten past the beta sector yet.

 

I just haven't tried advancing in game and instead have been mucking around trying to break the game looking for bugs. I don't mind wipes; but knowing one is coming sucks the big one

 

I'm all for making a backup, but if I understand correctly, the whole reason why they do a character/database wipe is because updates make one incompatible with the next.

But Incedium, which files are necessary to do a backup?

 

i name my characters Beta. i have no attachment to them.

 

Why can't people just accept that they may loose their characters and stop worrying about how to back things up. If you all want it released so soon play it like a beta(or alpha) don't get attached and help find bugs and balance issues like we are supposed to be doing while getting an early glimpse of the game.

 

Everyone is pretty chill in this thread so far ) And we don't need to worry about our chars, if anyone wants he'll find a way ;D

 

Don't think I said that anyone wasn't being chill nor was I not being "chill" it was a statement pure and simple. The point being that getting to just play and play is not what this should be for(I blame the rampant trend of companies treating betas as demos and not betas) it should be for making the game better and smoother. Personally I think they should just wipe every major patch but thats me.

 

Next wipe is going to make me happy.

Fresh starts are fun, the end game isn't everything.

 

It'll suck when the wipe comes, but I'm sure the added content will make up for it.

 

According to the recent Tiy post there'll only be one more. I go off that.

 

And that's the problem. Everyone misreads it and keps going off that.

Reduced Wipes: Working on a system to patch without requiring as many character wipes in the future. This will require one more wipe and that’s it.

Also note there is no actual date for this. What I can be sure of next patch is that we will have Chirstmas items, which is not on this list.

 

I see the "this will require one more wipe and that's it." A little weird way of wording it. I'd like to see more.
