The next wipe is going to make me sad

There's probably going to be a way to recover those saves in some way. IIRC there was some way to recover characters from before the most recent wipe by changing a few values in the save files or something.

 

I wish they'd just do it already.

 

There is in issue with doing that though. Say you find a way to save your character by tinkering with the file a bit, but then odd things start to happen. You then have the problem of is it something you did while tinkering or is it some instability brought in by the new patch? If you just assume its the new patch and go off and post it the devs will spend time trying to figure out the bug...when in reality it could have been something you did.

 

It was kind of a response to both you and Franklin, actually. It seemed like you thought that was proof of the next wipe being final and I was simply saying (to anyone) not to get your hopes high.

 

Wouldn't want to disappoint you!

Of course I will play, but with reduced enthusiasm.

I haven't found many bugs, really, which hopefully will translate to stable release being sooner rather than later.

 

I'm ready for it. My character has done all there is to do except pointlessly exploring every single planet out there. Top tier armor and weapons make for a boring game, surprisingly enough. The next wipe means tons of content (hopefully) so I look forward to starting from scratch.

 

True, but I was referring more to bugged and glitched content that may hold over from beta along with the existing characters. That, along with knowledge of existing coordinates for things if they decide not to put in a new universe seed, could be of detriment to the game experience and could cause considerable headaches for the devs if bugs start creeping in in response to the usage of any glitched items. Besides, by the time the game hits release, you'd be missing out on a hell of a lot of early content by continuing your beta character.

From a player's perspective it would be better to have the choice to carry things over, but from a dev's perspective it would be better to wipe before release.. decisions, decisions..

 

It's too bad they won't live...

You don't HAVE to keep your characters. You can delete them any time you want.

 

I've quit building anything close to elaborate. Just functional. Very much looking forward to being able to build whatever wherever. As it is, I've just been playing through the 'finished' tiers, will keep doing so until release. It's fun to see the new content and to bug hunt.

Second to the last bullet point, here I'll paste it.

• Reduced Wipes: Working on a system to patch without requiring as many character wipes in the future. This will require one more wipe and that’s it.

"...and that's it." sounds almost like a finality.

 

To me it reads that this is the last wipe with the old system from then on their "Reduced Wipe" system will be in affect.

 

I guess but again considering coords, you have the CHOICE to go there or not.

If you are really that concerned about your character, there are mods now that can "Spawn in" items. Just use one of those and you'll be good to go.

 

I don't mind the wipes, I'm constantly starting new characters anyway to see what the dice throws at them in the beginning , plus, no point getting too invested until actual release anyway.

 

That does not mean that they are right now working on this system, nor that it will implemented any time soon.

The list linked is NOT for the next patch. It's for the whole of the beta (and more). Considering the beta may as well last 8 months to a year, there may very well be dozens of wipes until they implement this system.
