A wipe to end all wipes....

 

Universe wipes are a given, though at some point they will stop being mandatory. It's like in Terraria and Minecraft, major changes required new worlds (you could use old characters in Terraria) to take affect. I'm assuming there will be patches long after release that require a new universe.

 

Who cares? The thing that counts is your gear and ship. I couldn't care less about my universe, I suck at building anyways.

 

I just want to point out to everyone that this game is still in beta, and early phase beta at that. Any promisses for there to be no more character wipes and ship wipes is pretty much only speculation since anything can happen still during development. Expect another wipe before release no matter what the devs say, almost every game has a wipe prior to final release. Remember you didnt buy this game to play it, you bought it to help test it because its in beta.

Yeah yeah yeah, you're saying the same thing we've all heard. Although, there won't be any more character wipes. You say it happens to almost every game, and you don't say which.

 

I always expect a wipe.
It is a beta... still in phase 1.

 

I am more concerned if the patch will fix the beamdown bug. I do not want to spawn in midair or in acid.
I also saw the tweet too. 1 more wipe but the wipe will make it backwards compatible? Huh?

 

I'm almost disappointed. Character-wipes were gonna be my motivation for playing as the different races, because choices are hard.

 

It means new universes will be backwards compatible with old characters. So if a patch changes everything and they have to wipe universes you will be able to keep the same character.

 

Backwards compatible just means that new updates will work with old version characters.

 

Specially if you have a big ship, which is already available with mods.

I love building huge castles (can't wait until we can craft those black castle bricks the Glitch have) but I don't mind doing everything again and again. Including my future Floran restaurant.

You can play as multiple characters. Leave some supplies in a planet and they can share. No need to go through all tiers with each one.

 

Hearthstone is a perfect example of a current game in beta that will wipe AT release. Minecraft is a perfect example of a game that required new worlds with each pre beta patch that came out. Every Blizzard game has had its progress wiped after beta. World of Warplanes had wipes at each beta phase. Its incredibly ignorant to think that those that are playing the game early through beta would be on the exact same level of those that play at launch, so beta wipes are very common in the gaming industry at release. Be glad we are having as few wipes as we have so far for a game still having new releases every week or so because you have no idea how difficult that is for a programmer.

Also it doesnt matter how many times you have heard it, you all keep forgetting it and need to be spoon fed it every few minutes it seems.

 

Yes I know, but will chracters that got wiped from the patch be compatible as well? That is a really awkward wipe. (angry koala characters)

 

Nope, those characters will be gone like ashes from a purging fire that will burn the Angry Koala to nothingness

No kidding? I had no idea. That's game changing information right there. I didn't realize you shared your universe across chars! So much still for my to learn about this game.

 

I'm elated to hear that not only will we see the last character wipes, but also ship wipes!

I am a bit troubled about it though, how many road blocks will the devs hit now in adding/changing content by having to work around the new setup to hush a few voices?

First time I heard this as well hahaha, cool to know I can swap armors and items between my characters.

 

There is no plan to have wipes for Hearthstone anymore. In fact, it would be stealing to do that since people spend money on packs. And of course the Blizzard games are wiped. But they weren't in Early Access, they didn't have to buy the beta.
