    First of all :
Looks really awesome. Especially those stairs (WOOOOOOOOOOOJA).
Had already painted pictures and so on and were about to post them that i wish to have stairs of exactly this kind :D.

The second and more important thing:

I saw the blocks of which the building consists and noticed they seem to have a random appearence.
So my Question: Are these just different blocks you used for building that OR are this blocks of the same kind getting a random appearence upon placement?

If so: Please don´t . I don´t know if others feel like that, but i am kind of a perfectionist and if the blocks really will look randomly i will take hours of building a house/station/whatever because of :

    Place a Block
Dont´t like the randomly chosen skin
    Destroying block
    Placing block
    ETC
    ETC
    [...]
Having the correct skin. 10 min taken for just 1 Block ;P

    So how about it ?

    Yours faithfully, Aethilion.

    Edit:
Oh oh oh, and another question i ever wanted to ask:

How about the water in starbound? How do the fluids behave and how does it look like?
(Hope less "blocky" than in terraria ;P)

So that you know what i mean i marked a few examples on the picture:

I like it and not sure if the blocks are generated or not nothing is said yet about random details in blocks but perhaps in the next game play video it with show us.

You mean you would like if the blocks of a kind got different >randomly< chosen skins upon placement? ;)

Could be nice looking, yes. But i like it more, if i have the possibility to chose for myself which skin is used.

Look at the ground, the gray rocks. Obviously random. :)

  5. 777eza

    777eza Existential Complex

The ground yes but its not player made if you look at the bottom of the base the hole you see a lot of solid light grey blocks the chances of that happening with out one different block are really low so I don't think it is random.

I am pretty sure the "light grey rocks" are actually just the background... As the dark grey are foreground.

    lol

Just waited for THAT answer ;).
I mean, sure, at something like rocks and such in my opinion you just NEED randomness for a good look ;P.

But at things i build a house of (Bricks, Metal, Wooden walls and stuff) i would as stated above take hours "because i just dont want THIS block skin on THIS position" ;P

    @ wulld :
Yeah, i saw there are background blocks and foreground blocks and two different colours of these metal blocks.

But i meant (what i clearly marked on the picture ;P) the blocks with and without screws, with and without those yellow/green bars inside and those have a brighter and a darker block "body".

  8. Swinburn

    Swinburn Phantasmal Quasar

Ahh, well yes I think the blocks are randomized, but in my opinion it makes it look better.

    Aethilion Void-Bound Voyager

In certain things, yes. But i wish there would be an option then to turn the randomness off and let yourself choose the actual skin for usage .

    @ frozen :

Yes . In fact for me it is even more funny right now because a few days ago i saw an erotic parody of PLanet of the Apes named:

    Planet of the Babes

And no this is no porn ;P.

Hey Aethilion to answer your second questions water will equalize and also have pressure which is really neat.

Here is the conversation Tiy had on the Livechat:

    [11:22] <@Tiy> my god
[11:22] <@Tiy> Kyren just did a major update on water
    [11:22] <@Tiy> its amazing
[11:23] <@Tiy> a lot of the work was bartwe_'s actually
    [11:41] <@Tiy> im just excited
[11:41] <@Tiy> because it really is awesome
    [11:41] <@Tiy> its even pressurised
    [11:41] <@Tiy> like I have an admin command /water
[11:41] <@Tiy> which spawns water right
[11:42] <@Tiy> at the location of the mouse cursor
    [11:42] <@Tiy> so i make a tiny box
[11:42] <@Tiy> put my mouse cursor in it
    [11:42] <@Tiy> and hammer /water
[11:42] <@Tiy> because theres no more room for water to go in there
[11:42] <@Tiy> instead it compacts the existing water
[11:42] <@Tiy> and makes it pressurised
    [11:42] <@Tiy> then
    [11:42] <@Tiy> i break a block
    [11:42] <@Tiy> BOOM
    [11:42] <@Tiy> fountain
    REPEATED:
[11:43] <@Tiy`> damn the internet hates me
    [11:44] <@Tiy`> I was saying
    [11:44] <@Tiy`> I put water into a small cube, hammered /water
[11:44] <@Tiy`> until there was no more room left in the square for more water
[11:44] <@Tiy`> so the existing water compacts, becomes pressurised
[11:44] <@Tiy`> until I break a block in the square
    [11:45] <@Tiy`> which shoots out a fountain
    -----
    [11:44] <DoctorFlerpWerp> What about equalization?
[11:45] <@Tiy`> yeah it equialises DoctorFlerpWerp

I hope that answers most of the questions about the water physics :)

Yeah cool , read about the Water having pressure and such :D.
I just have a lack describing what i want to point at in english .
I meant the way water behaves and look like >in motion<.

In Terraria it looked like that :
    Bmb.jpg

You see, it is very "blocky" and doesnt look like real water in motion.
So it is a very important (but maybe a bit early ?!) question to me ;P.

And it would really be okay for you if you place a metal block f.e. and have a chance of 4 - 5 different skins to appear upon placement?

If you look at the picture you posted, notice the squares at the top of the base all go around the perimeter of the window. Those blocks were placed obviously in a pattern for decorative purposes. Theose squares throughout the base seem to go in straight lines following the flooring/ceiling.

ALSO: what about the really dark blocks on either side of the ape like player "standing guard". Could those be doors that slide in and out? If they do slide in and out of the players way, they would not take up an additionnal square like the doors in teraria. (Where blocks/furniture next to a door would prevent the door from opening in that direction)

Edit: could someone find the picture of furious George? It had water in that picture and someone was swimmin in it. You won't see water in motion obviously, but it shows that swimming in this game will be more than simply being in water and moving slower than usual -__-"

There are only a few variables for each block, so it would take around 5 seconds to get the correct skin for the block, not a big deal in my opinion ^^! And it really add some variety and allows the less skilled builders to make some nicer creations that aren't just simple boxes with the same texture and no variety in it at all.

  16. LastDay

    LastDay Heliosphere

Hahah yeah the way I see it blocks are blocks, so I kinda assumed they'd all have random variations like that. :)
But yeah you have a point, it could be really annoying to pick up and put back a block constantly if they have a lot of variation and look that much different.

  17. Aethilion

    Aethilion Void-Bound Voyager

    @ SpaceCap´n
True (about the decorative blocks), but these seem to be other blocks than the rest of the wall and they seem to have random skins ;P.

Right oO, i didn´t pay attention to those really darker blocks, maybe a reference to the wired blocks in terraria? Changing from back to foreground and the other way araound. But i can´t see a lever or some kind of button.

    @ Maunokki
Also true . As i said before, in certain things i think those variations are neccesary or helpful (especially for those who doesnt care or dont have an eye for decoration placement) but a normal building has several 100 blocks (not counting the background walls) and then it could take hours to build something if you dont like the random variations.

    @ LastDay
Thank god you understand what i mean . I mean that are really not small variations, but really obvious variable skins (as i think these are random skins). Like with and without screws and even with those green bars in the block oO.
Would really annoy me while building.

Hey i saw your video about this image ;P.

And yes there are many, but i saw noone talking about possible automated block variations or am i wrong there ? ;)

    ockpii The Reel McCoy

Sub, foo! (I kid) (but do so)
The devs said that no block would be the same to the one that's right to the side of it. That could explain it right there.

No one talked about the blocks below the base as well. I talked about those on the video. Also, people should just post their opinions on the first thread of the matter. I created a thread that I couldn't delete, but I redirected my thoughts to the first thread that was created (even though that my thread encompassed the team's latest doings and multiplayer and beta info). So.. yeah. Keeping things clean.
