The new patch (12/10/13) has made the game harder and more frustrating, so far.

I miss my Butterfly tech, but other than that I have no qualms about starting anew. But then again I'm an altoholic too.*Shrug*.
Birds seem to have a greater aggro range now, indeed. Before they'd only come bother you if YOU jumped a bit too close or they flew normally past some hill with you on it.

Took me a while to find some trees, but I managed to reach them without incident after dealing with a couple of mobs earlier.
I'm glad they fixed the 3D Printer dupe bug, even if it makes gaining rarer stuff or starting out bit harder.

MAYBE We should be allowed to re-grow trees and burn wood into CHARCOAL for FUEL?

Coal functioned as a better fuel before the patch, too, it was just far less plentiful.

I'm really surprised how many people need fuel handed to them on a silver platter.

I'm curious, if the new changes are that hard for you, what other games do you play that you feel are challenging but not unfairly hard?
    Checkers?
I know it sounds like a sarcastic question but I'm being 100% serious. I've been gaming for 30 years, my concept of "hard" far exceeds what most people would consider "normal". And no, that doesn't make you an internet badass- it means you've got a lot more experience, period.

I do miss the days when people wouldn't immediately assume if they aren't kings of the world than there must be something wrong with the game.

It's very possible a great many of you are simply -bad at the game-. That's not an insult, it's a statement of fact. Being professional at something isn't a matter of natural born skill- that's a myth. Expertise is acquired through repetition. Practice makes you a better gamer.

Please, stop blaming the games. If the game was genuinely as difficult as some of you are implying, there would be -no one- who could play it. If even one person can play it without problem, odds are you're doing it wrong.

So, you want for OP system to come back, and actually become even more OP?

Keep playing, you'll get better at it. It's great that this game aims to be hard, not many do these days sadly.

I've never even left my first planetary system...

Never really needed that much fuel to explore the 20+ planets that were there.

I prefer this system but now we're just on the extreme opposite of what we were before.

    - Ore spawns need to be drastically reduced. I had over 250 copper/iron Bars, ~150 Silver bars, and ~25 gold bars after an hour of mining on my starter planet.
    - It only took me ~5 minutes from character creation to create a weapon that can 1 shot everything in the first sector, and most things in the second sector.
    - Can easily create ~5000dps weapons soon as you get to sector 2 which will one shot everything in the game it seems.
    - I am in sector 3 after 2 hours and have yet to die. I'm not even rushing, I have the materials to create the best gear and weapons within a few minutes of mining in each tier.

Pretty sure 2 things went wrong:
    1) They accidentally increased ore generation way too much.
    2) They forgot to balance crafted weapons, as dropped weapons seem fine.

Both these things should be rather easy to hotfix in tomorrow, but I think #1 would require them to regenerate the universe again. However, as long as you store things on ship it should be fine. Maybe they can change that without doing it anyway.

That's funny because all other thread actually complains how about the game is too much easy right now.

I would just like to say, about the coal, it's not so much that I don't like a challenge, believe me. However, I sometimes like to just go out and see all the different planets, but that can become irritating when I have to micromanage fuel all the time. Now I can just get used to it, as I will have to, however I am concerned about running out of fuel completely. I like to have a home planet to come to, but what happens when I use all the coal on my planet? Coming back to my home planet will now cost fuel that I can't get back, so going back there for a bit then going somewhere else is now doubling my fuel cost and now I have to spend much longer on said planet, hoping I can scrounge up fuel at least equivalent to what I just used.

It's not as much of an issue right now with the ore increase, but it could be once that's turned back down.

Minecraft has a lot of mods, I love Technicpack one the most it starts with using Vanilla fuels, but progresses into Generating/storing power to make machinery work. Even Vanilla had option to use anything that burns+lava buckets as fuel to craft things, tho I personally prefer using Charcoal for torches and Coal for fuel.

Limiting the fuel to Coal only without upping its amount only limits you to your starter planet for a while and doesn't really promote exploring(what if next planet has like 0.1% amount of Coal somewhere near lava?).
I hope the Coal is (even if only a bit) more abundant to make up for it. That will make the game challenging without being unfairly hard.

How was the system OP? You could've easily landed on a planet with NO TREES as your first so coal was the only choice ANYWAY.

If we can re-grow trees and make it into charcoal there's no reason they can't make the amount of trees burned to make Charcoal on par with trying to find coal and have Charcoal only give 1 fuel. Just gives possibilities rather than taking them away.

+ I like the way that trees look, it'd be sad to see them all gone just cause you needed blocks for your roof. Even if we don't get wood back as fuel, at least re-grow them naturally or from seeds or something.

i'm with you on this one, people play for 5-30min and come to the forum to complain that it's to hard.
why do you want an easy game ? why don't you want to improve your skills ? i died alot aswell in the beginning.
i'm at work so i can't test the new system yet but i'm sure it will improve my skills even furthur.

How typical. The patch hasn't been out for half a day and already a shitstorm of complaints. I for one like this version a lot more. Sure, ore may be too plentiful and weapons need some tweaking. The point is that the current system CAN and WILL be tweaked until it is balanced. I think this is a great step forward compared to the first version, and I'm sure it will be even better when balanced properly (which will probably happen within a week, if not within days).

So please people, just give it some time and keep your criticism constructive. The developers are doing their absolute best to improve our experience, the least we could do is give them some (well deserved) credit for it!

I think the easiest solution to both sides of the arguement (too easy and too hard) would be to try and get different modes in, preferably a more hardcore game mode and a more casual game mode. Then everyone can just play the way they prefer.

The game is even easier than it was before (where you could just stand there and kill everything with an iron bow because the AI is too stupid to path to you by jumping. Not sure if that still applies.) Hopefully this gets fixed soon.

However, every bird on every planet being a laser turret is a bit silly. They really need some melee attacks.

    Come on people,

this is a BETA, they're still tweaking the whole game. It never was meant to be played like you would play a final version of a game. And this is not Super Mario for all the whiners or WoW. This is STARBOUND!

Why the heck would someone fuel a spaceship with wood? Even coal is a bit, lets say, strange. Wait for the final version before complaning about it being too easy or too hard. Say what you don't like and would like to see improved, but do not complain.

Don't forget: there is a vision behind this game (Tiy's) and it will come to pass!

    Cheers

So far much easier than before.
And don't forget that as soon as you gather enough iron you will be able to craft a decent dps weapon.
From that point people will start raging that the game is too easy.

Relax, Tiy told us that the "balance update" will be UNBALANCED at first, needing time and patient to calibrate it to the sweet spot.

Update! The first stone pickaxe seems to me, at least, to function a bit faster. I've mined plenty of copper, iron and coal at this point. More iron and copper than anything. I feel over all they've balanced a lot of aspects. At first I was surprised that they took out wood as a fuel source, though what they've done it seems is encourage people to explore a planet as a whole rather than just it's surface. The caves and caverns, digging underground rather than chopping down tress, opening surface chest and moving to the next planet like a twisted nomad bent on pillaging chest. It's good I think! The bird monsters do seem a bit over powered right now compared to ground walkers, though that might simply be because I have no armor, and killing them is a pain in my arse!
