The new patch (12/10/13) has made the game harder and more frustrating, so far.

    Nooooo! This is sooooo fun! I'm enjoying my feeble attempts at survival! More difficulty pliz!
    This has nothing on the Ninja Gaiden games on NES

    To the first part, yes, u will have a hard 1st time, but u will get a weapon that one shot them later on, so just keep trying, I know you can do it!

    Yep, that was supposed to be there.

    And yes, there are supposed to be like 10 sectors then, I think this is way better than just to have 3 or 4 levels each sector and get like 1-3 in alpha, 4-6 beta, 7-8 gamma and 9-10 delta. Don't you think? Think of it just about a level per sector and it will be allright

    The complaints about the wood fuel are laughable since before the patch it seemed like everyone was complaining about the wood fuel being better than coal (or at least much easier to acquire). Now people complain about how they cannot get off their Nintendo hard (tm) starter planet with a few hundred longs and a smile.

    Enjoying the new patch for the most part, already built a shelter and completed the first few quest do-hickys. Though I was horribly surprised they took wood out as a fuel source. I haven't been as lucky as a few of you it seems. Coal and copper is rare on my starting planet. Though I was lucky and found a tech chest directly to the left of my spawn with pulse jump. So there's that. A little past that was this tame little glitch merchant. The birds liquidized him before I had a chance to do anything. It's very sad, I wanted a new shirt.

    Made a Flora, she's awesome. Everything starts slow, but we'll be fine~ Catch you all on the flip side.

    No. Now devs can actually tinker with numbers without having to wipe us all to oblivion.

    Yeah, I think that's the case too. I expect we'll see a few hotfixes tomorrow to help clear things up a bit.

    Here I am.. already in sector 3 after 2 hours, one shotting bosses and everything in my path. So much ore everywhere, crafted weapons are way out of balance (Over 5000% better than dropped weapons). Even the Tier 1 weapons will one shot everything.

    Time for bed and hopefully they fix this tomorrow. How did they not catch this during testing? They should really invest in a testing team, i'm sure people would volunteer even.

    From a -very- brief bit of play the birds do seem a tad unbalanced, but that maybe the luck of the draw.

    Mostly its the fact you don't have a good way to deal with them right off. They give you a sword, but until you have a good bow you have to doge around without any way to get them off your back until a bit further in. Plus many of their attacks seem multi-hit stream attacks.

    They on the other hand can hover out of reach for a long time with impunity. Those cheap shots that come off screen aren't endearing either. ;)
    Everything else I'm waiting till further on to really form an opinion over.

    just dont use the broken weapons and thats it

    Btw i think the spears system should be changed, we should be able to aim with the spear where we want to hit, like this they are just useless, a broadsword have the same range with better function.

    To be honest I don't like this new combat system.
    Too bad we can't use unrefined wood as fuel anymore.

    Yeah, it could have been fixed, there's no reason it can't be worked out more and reimplemented later. But does Starbound really need to make weapon comparison complicated? I'm all for good mechanics, but should never be complex simply for the sake of complexity if there's no reason or continuity with the other systems in a game.

    And while we're talking about weapons, I'd really like to see the initial cooldown when swapping to a weapon diminished. Nothing like being in a small dark tunnel, get ambushed, and forced to stand defenseless while your character readies their weapon.

    So far combat seems okay, but with wood no longer a fuel source, I hope coal will be more abundant. A problem I had before the patch was deciding how much coal went into fuel, how much went into torches, and how much for steel. Now even more will have to go into fuel, but hopefully it won't be too big of an issue.

    My fear is that I'm going to have planets just ruining out of coal and then being screwed.

    Yeah it went from overly hard to oneshotting everything the minute I got a weapon with more than 40 dps.

    There is no curve anymore whatsoever.

    They should have kept the Armor Penetration system, renamed Armor Penetration on the weapons to Level, and adjusted the curve out so it took 5-6 levels for a weapon to only do half damage on a higher level mob, and vice versa, instead of 1 level difference. :(
