The new patch (12/10/13) has made the game harder and more frustrating, so far.

I honestly could never figure out what weapon was better half the time with the PEN system... maybe I'm just dense.

I never found that weapon pen. meant everything. I've found weapons that were better with flat damage but had low armor pen. I like variety and possibly situational weapons.
That's most likely WHY people didn't like it, is because there is this norm that games with combat systems have to be simple with flat numbers. Yes it was clunky, but it could have been fixed given time. There was nothing wrong with the previous mechanics. The problem was the numbers which needed tweaking.

Yea, I don't really like the oversimplification of the sectors, even if it works mechanically, it takes a lot away from he immersion. I dont feel much like a space explorer anymore, I know that's not really like a "stop playing forever" complaint, but it all felt so good before, and now I feel more like...Mass effect 2, just scanning planets from above for a biome I want, gathering some nonsense because they have it there, move on. I know the monsters will be more or less uniform, even if they have different hats on. there just walking difficulty markers. again, functionally its not terrible different, but it feels weird and kinda dull. R.I.P armor penetration, you were just to cool for people to leave alone.

I do have to agree with the op that the mobs are just plain harder now it seem especially before you get your first iron weapon, and copper armor.

And the birds... good lord the birds, I tried to jump melee one before i got a bow... because I couldn't get a bow, because i was attacked every time I went even a couple of steps away from my spawn point... And that thing was darn near indestructible, after 8 hits it was only at a quarter health and then it killed me, Somewhere the ghost of Alfred Hitchcock is laughing his butt off.

Speaking of bows and hunting.... good lord did they put the mobs on 'roids? The hunting bow does not knock most of them back anymore, and trying to 'soften them up with the sword" is useless since you cant get far enough away to use your bow.
Right now I'm in a wild search for Iron so I can make a better bow so hunting will at least go slightly better.

I'm not complaining (yet), I'm just saying the game is currently harder and not necessarily in a fun way :(

So game's harder now? I haven't played the new patch still, but if that's true, then I'm more in love with this game.

I don't like cakewalks in videogames.

I thought It was awesome, It meant you didint know instantly weather or not you could take on a monster, it meant you had to test and play with creatures on the planet, and gauge their strength, like a space explorer would have too. Hoping that someday I would have a bio scanner or something, witch gave me hope. sall gone now

I actually feel more like an explorer now. No «someone already charted out the whole freaking universe for me» feel.

You still don't know if you can take a monster. The 'don't know' part has just shifted from the weapon stats to the monster stats.

I think they should be easy- you don't get guns easily until the second or third sectors. Bows are pretty laughable in general, too.

but now they not only charted it, they color coded the enemies, and put stickers on all your weapons so that you know which one is best. no thinking here, just get the biggest number

False. With level 15 weapon on level 12 planet I was sure to oneshot every daytime enemy. On level 20 planet — I would simply graze them. And now I actually don't know. Funny how that works, huh?

I actually find it way to easy after the update. Since you start fresh, I just killed the mothership without dying even once. The damage on lvl 5 weapons needs to be lowered a TON. Once you craft a lvl 5 weapon any creature in the first sector is 1 hit killed with the exception of the mothership which takes about 10 hits with the craftable 2-handed sword. :/

of course I know, the monster has a big kill me sign, or a I'm gonna kill you sign. as opposed to never knowing if the giant lizard is a pushover, or if the rabbit is going to rip off my legs and kill my crew with them

The old penetration system flat out sucked to be honest, it was jarring to have a sniper rifle with 68 damage but 2 armor penetration and fail to take out monsters faster than a weak little iron broadsword that I crafted within 5 mins of starting the game. Armor penetration was not a real armor system, rather it was simply a "this is the only important number on the weapon" kind of thing since "Armor penetration" was just weapon level and all you had to do was snag a weapon that matched the planet and you instantly can take it on, I rather this new system where I dont immediately know I can splatter everything just for having a specific number matching the planet's level.

Easy was better, melee resistant birds that are basically automatic air turrets are not fun,

I see a bird now and I'm like:
"Oh dear lord, don't let it get to close to me.... I'll lose even more pixels....and my progress.... please don't come near me.... RUN...AWAY!" **Rebirth Animation**

An oddity I've found: The Copper Greaves actually lower my total defense a bit compared to the Floran Pelt Legs I started with, despite having pretty much the same stats.

I guess some kind of middle ground between the old system and the new system would be in order.

I believe the whole point of the starter world is to get accustomed to the game, with that being said, I would like to think you should have to spend quite a while there before venturing out. It's a sort of prologue if you will.

I love how people complain about the wood not working as fuel anymore, when I didn't even know you could use it as fuel. Make an effort and scavenge some coal ya lazies lol. It's a SPACESHIP. Not a furnace.

By the away.... could someone pm me with a way to reset a planet.

My starter planet was great, I was literally right next to a Wizard Glitch House, wich helped a lot, and then I opened a door and there was a .... bird.... and long story short... no more Glitch Wizard....
And how would I delete a character as well?

    Thanks in advance.

    Damn dirty birds!
