The new patch (12/10/13) has made the game harder and more frustrating, so far.

Hehehe. I imagine Tiy is getting a chuckle right now. So many people were complaining that the mobs were vanilla and boring, now they're kicking people's asses. Maybe a little too much with the birds, but sometimes you gotta be careful what you wish for  I'm sure they'll get toned down soon enough.

I think the problem is that birds rarely have melee attacks, they mosty have some form of ranged attack, be it blood vomit or gas or bubbles or lightning or whatever. Some forms of these attacks (lightning and bubbles aspecially) create a LOT of tiny projectiles. Each of those can damage you, because there is no invulnerability time after being hit. They individually do not do that much damage, so there is no knockback and so many of them can hit you very quickly and do a ton of damage.

birds have become my target of annihilation.

i learned to deal with the land creatures(sometimes they stop attack and bow their heads, proof that i am worthy of holding the mantle of the title "Adventurer") but the gad dang birds...BIRD!

Either way! i enjoy the new difficulty, it makes me think of new ways to attack at both land and air creatures! even learned to deal with charging foes because of the update!

    I welcome this system.

Forgive my ignorance... I havent been able to play the patch yet as I am at work still.
    But...
I see the argument regarding 'no variety' in the systems anymore... when clearly there is still variety, otherwise people would not be getting an 'easy' or 'hard' starting planet?

In regard to the changes, I look forward to playing the patch. The removal of wood as fuel is excellent, as it slows down the pace and makes you explore/mine more. All the same threat level in the sectors is also great, as it should keep the player in a sector for much longer prior to completing first boss and progressing to the next sector.

My question is: has the armour changed in line with the damage changes? Previously the difference between T1 armour was negligible if anything at all. Now with the longer game time in each sector, the armour should reflect the effort the player must go to in order to attain gold etc.

    Just my two bobs.

The reason I don't think the ground mobs are having the same issue is because; for the most part, ground mobs (surface ones anyway) don't typically have a ranged attack. They simply dash and run. The birds are the opposite, having mostly ranged attacks that in some cases, are fairly difficult to dodge. With surface mobs, I think most players have become used to the way they attack, and can reasonably take them out with ease. But the birds are a different story, since you never really know how they'll attack until you're close up. And for bubble, fire, or quick bullet attacks, that can become an issue.

I don't know exactly what Tiy has planned concerning planet diversity, but I hope he will include at least some aspects of my idea.

My 'common' enemy for my starter planet is a quadraped dino thing, and it shoots these sonic blasts that bounce off walls. Pretty hairy in some of the shallow caves, I love it!
And I got some sweet, sweet love from the chests already, and I've barely explored my starting planet.

After a bit of testing, I'm definitely taking fall damage more often now. I feel like gravity just became my greatest enemy...

I really don't understand the 'its too hard argument'. Literally all you have to do is mine a little in the beginning and get a decent weapon and armor. Until you have those things it's best to just avoid enemies altogether.

i feel like armor has made a step in the right direction(no longer can you skip to silver tier, that was nice.)

i sort of wish they made two different armor types though...a long range armor type and the such.

the latest model is capable of handling it, in my opinion.

Remember this is BETA and if you don't like something, tell us what and why, and what you think needs to be changed or added.

Armor before was an average between the three, now armor is added up it seems, AND add additional health and energy, which is sweet. So yeah, major differences. And I agree on the whole variety thing, I played for about half an hour and saw immedietly that the variety is still there even though it's all one tier. I mean, sandbox right? Just because there isn't a number saying how powerful that planet is, doesn't make me not want to go to any of them

I'm really disappointed with this update.

-Ore is too easy to obtain (kinda intentionally seeing as Tiy noted it on the patch notes).
-Armor is now just silly. Armor adds to health, helmet adds flat energy, and the pants add energy regen. I'd rather have just armor value even if it's being averaged.
-Weapons are now linear and require little-to-no thought. Which ever does more damage, will replace what you currently have. At least the armor pen made you stop and think about what you ACTUALLY wanted.

The game is too easy as it stands, and I honestly can't get into this new system. It doesn't feel special...just really dumb down mechanics. I'm going to keep going and see if things balance later in the game...but even though this is new and still being tested...I just don't like it.

Edit: I also hate the new planet level system. I can't decide between difficulty anymore, and I feel that this was really a bad turn to take. The original 1-100 level system at least allowed players of all varying play styles find where they felt at home...now you're just kinda catagorized in one difficulty and if you're having a hard time...you don't have a choice but to suck it up since you can't go to a lower level planet anymore.

Before the patch I kinda found the birds laughably easy... so I'm torn as to which is better.

I dunno about that armor pen thing, man, all it basically was was the level of the weapon. Not really any thinking to it at all, always go for the highest weapon pen, if it matches, higher dps

That's how weapons in many games work. With the armor pen, you just had one extra number to look at, it was a clunky mechanic that didn't really promote that much thinking.
