    I dub it the Leviathan

The Leviathan is eon's old and was rumored to be the cause of the humans abandonding earth, subsequently destroying the planet.

Threat level: [Depends on the sector is attacks]
This planet sized monstrosity is capable of consuming whole worlds.
    My idea
My idea for this monster is that is it going to be a randomly occuring event that can happen one at a time at a unspecified place, at a unspecified sector and system with a extremely rare instance of it happening in the same system you're in. Let us say like 0.0005% of it happening.

What does it do you ask?
It consumes whole planet clusters in a course of a couple hours, or longer. Reducing whole eco-systems and destroying a planet, leaving asteroid fields or barren planets. With this as a random event, players can muster a defence and attempt to defeat the monstrosity. Close your eyes and imagine the world you're on, the skies going dark as a massive shadow is cast upon your world. You hear a blood curdling roar as you see tenetacles slowly making it's way down to the planet surface in the background, slowly breaking apart the world's crust as they begin making their way down to the planet core, sucking the planet dry of it's core.
As players defend against the boss, the boss will shriek as it will take damage and releases pods that would land on the surface, releasing a plethora of mutated monsters that will slowly shamble their way to the players. Although the monsters will be slow they will have obscene amounts of health and be hard to take down.

As the monster lingers around the planet, I believe there should be something like a fleshy-type of corruption slowly spreading on the planet's surface that would spawn more creatures as it spreads. Another thing I think would be a good idea is to implement a type of Shield System like mounted ontop of a tower with wires running from it to generators that players will have to build from scratch. I think the players should have to craft multiple components to put together generators that would take time to rev up and generator energy which would be fed from the generators to the shield array via electrical wires. To modify the coverage of the protection at the cost of increased energy usage and a chipset.

    Chipset you say?
Yes a chipset to put into the shield array would bring up a ui of the diameter you want the shield dome to protect at the expense of energy, which would also be shown on the ui.

Edit: Yes I forgot to mention server and singleplayer people will have an option to turn this off.

I think the devs have an idea what these tentacled beasts are.

But I would -love- an apocalypse event if one was to show up and the ability to fight them back. This should probably be combined with tentacle biome planets too somehow.

Another idea, is to show that the monster has been there. If you land on the planet and you have flesh-like corruption slowly spreading with remnants of monsters.

Just going to point out, that's Deadspace Art. Accurate to what the tentacle thing is, but yeah, Deadspace Art.

I just have to say... the entire combined efforts of Humanity couldn't defend from this thing. How is one lone straggler supposed to have a ghost's chance in hell of fighting it off? Remember, the combined military and technological might of Earth couldn't stop this thing (super nukes, planetary lasers, plasma weapons, swarms of ships, etc). What does that say about Humanity if one half crazed plant cannibal or medieval robot was about to fend it off? Or even if one lone human still using pickaxes manages to do what his entire specie's worth of resources couldn't? That Earth wouldn't have been doomed if only YOU had been there?

More likely, say this is a SPAWN of the monster that destroyed Earth. A much smaller (and weaker) version of the Big Bad that is feasible for you to fend off. Say after so many planets it devours, it release a spawn. These spawns are managebale (but extremely tough). The idea is that the chances of ever finding the Leviathan are unimanginably low in the grand infinite expanse of space. However, as it devours planets and sends out more and more spawns... you may eventually run into one of its countless Hell Kids.

Here are my 2 cents for your awesome idea. AS someone mentions, your event would be fighting a leviathan's spawn which would dbe more vulnerable to dadmage as well as much more smaller in size. Then we could have a long running quest where you have to find a way to defeat the leviathan menace once and for all.

    - Probably the first tasks would be finding some long forgotten lab and then a mad scientist to lead a project to design a weapon that will eventually kill them.

    - Then you would need to collect some bits of leviathan flesh from different ones already living inside planets and feeding on them.

    - Then you would have to find several samples from stuff the scientist would ask you for around space across different sectors and deliver them to him.

    - Finally, after a while, the scientist would deliver some biological weapon that can destroy the menace in the long run, it could be a virus that mutates the leviathan, causing it to create cannibal spawns that slowly devour it and finally leave in search of more leviathans to eat, a virus that can kill the leviathan directly as well as make it unable to produce more spawns before it dies or something else, of course you wouldn't seen the end o fthe menace in your lifetime, but the deadly spawns appearance rate would get quite lower and you would get random encounters with scientist bases where the virus are created and then injected into the leviathan on infected planets.

After this happens you could find hollow planets, planets with a very large cavern inside and holes in the surface where once the leviathan was

This would be great for a quest/event for Earth ....But...I would like to see Earth still exist as a prosperous city-planet.

Would be quite interesting as a 'end' game monster.

why does it have to be evil? and not something like a punishment for miss treating a planet.
