Think about it. This kid's been adventuring since, what, the age of eight?

He's bald, sturdy, agile, lost a hand but didn't let it slow him down in the slightest - just stuck a hook in its place and used it for climbing. He's frickin' fearless - he doesn't even bat an eye when enormous rock-golems or giant worms show up. He's a capable sailor, able to dodge leaping piranhas and cannonballs from pirates in his little sloop of a boat. He takes to the adventuring life like a fish to water, and when he figures out how to toss that hook for a hand like a boomerang, he doesn't even bat an eye at the prospect of weaponizing the talent.

All this might make him sound like a vicious, multi-talented monster, but he's actually got a kind side to him. He's saved lightning bugs from spiders, cured sick animals, and stopped pollution. He regularly talks to animals, and won't hurt anyone that doesn't attack him first. He's not quite a saint; he's a bit larcenous, prone to unlocking locked doors in order to get at the goodies inside, regardless of whether he's got permission to take 'em or not. Then again, kleptomania is kinda par for the course for adventurers and video game protagonists, so it's forgivable.

He's fashion-conscious, but practical - he's got a love of hats, but he remains garbed in a simple, sturdy white tank-top and blue jeans. Even though he can become quite wealthy over the course of the game, he doesn't feel the need to flaunt his wealth with any garment save what adorns that cueball he's got for a head. I gotta say, not a lot of guys can make a purple top-hat look fashionable, let alone practical, but somehow, he manages to pull off just that.

Just goes to show you that you don't have to be some grizzled veteran or heavily-armed space marine or secret-experiment super-soldier or alien superhuman to be hardcore. Sometimes, all it takes is a hook for a hand, a thirst for adventure, good agility, and a fearless attitude.
