Uh... DynaFols was discussing a topic that was addressed by the sub-reddit discussion itself, which is what this thread was trying to promote. I think his comments were more on topic than most everyone else in this thread. Just because it's a topic you don't share the same opinion on is not the same as off-topic posting.

 

Hard to ask questions when the Q & A itself covered most of the basic ones I would have.

Even though I'm replying to you, I'm kinda meaning this towards people here (including me).

I don't think we need to brag/gloat/rub it in if someone we're disagreeing with has done horrible things in the past or if they leave the discussion. Not cool. This isn't meant to be personal.

Dynafols had really good intentions when he said modders that end up contributing greatly to the game should be rewarded. I agree with that, even if it's a check for $1.00, or a signed scarf from Tiy.

Others brought up logistics and legal challenges that could (we don't know for sure if they would or wouldn't) affect rewarding modders monetarily. I think this is a very strong consideration, because I thought I remember Tiy saying that they couldn't even pay their own developers until they moved to the UK, because of said legal challenges involved with a EU-based company paying foreign workers. If they can't even pay their own full-time devs, I really don't think they would pay modders, but that is complete speculation on my part because I don't have any inside information.

I didn't like how the discussion then centered around "countering arguments", because none of us know exactly why this isn't a thing right now. All of us are in the dark, unless we know the exact tax rules and foreign worker rules and how Chucklefish has chosen to operate (and why), so we really can't "counter" any arguments. We can provide examples of other places and other people doing things differently or the same, but that's it. And it could be that all or none of those examples even apply to the specific situation here with Chucklefish.

I hope that CF releases a big content update soon, just so that the discussions can go back to being about what the game is/has, as opposed to why or why not CF is wrong or right or perfect or absolutely terrible.

 

It's not that he's wrong or has good intentions, he's turning this into a pissing match (so are other members) and doesn't listen to opposing views.

The thread is getting bogged down by arguments instead of discussion so I'll continue to be happy that he left

Should modders get something in return? Sure, but you can't ignore how low people are willing to go if they want compensation. Modding will be driven by greed and unhealthy competition. You essentially get a stake in the game and can take advantage now that you're part if it.

I would propose a form of compensation that is not monetary. This could be getting credited or something else.

I hope you realize repeatedly posting these onto threads gets annoying and old fast. Actually post something please.

At least post a more related gif like that the one that has the "this" caption. Maybe this is just me but I keep getting more and more irritated when you post these.

If you're fighting for a group of people and that group says "stop", that's a good indication that you should reconsider your position.

 

I stay by my position and statements. If anything, I would say what you're describing to be indicated as "bullying". Really though, I can't seem to have a rational discussion without someone attacking me with meatless bones.

 

Then as a modder, please stop trying to advocate for me.

 

As an artist and creator or works myself, please realize this isn't about just you.

 

Neither is it just about you.

 

Then speak only for yourself and don't claim you're looking out for others when they never asked for your protection

 

I live right next to one of the more artistic cities in the world, and trust me when I say this, there are a lot of starving artists out there that should get a lot more for the things they do.

I made a post stating that I believe that those whose works are used by another for profit, should also gain some profit. What constitutes how much worth a mod has is debatable, but to say they shouldn't be paid at all is just wrong.

 

Too bad mod making is done in someones spare time. Modders make mods to have fun or other goals, not for money.

Being a starving artist ain't a good excuse. It's unfortunate to be in that position but being down on your luck won't earn you any special privileges.

 

If you're out of money, and good enough at what you do to get it included in the game as core content, there are probably better things you could be doing with your time.

Because I'm looking beyond the "getting money" part of it. Anytime money is brought into anything, it inevitably causes competition and "drama".

 

...That's kinda how all game companies work...

 

Its not about the money, its about being rewarded or given something. When they start using your work, they are making money off of it, and you get nothing for it.

And it's not just about being "good enough", it also has to be the RIGHT content. There are plenty pony related mods, and you wanna know why none of them are in the vanilla? (because it doesn't make sense at all for it to be included). There are more requirements than just skill.

So have it be a non-monetary reward. For example, right now any modders that get content included get their name in the credits.
