The Jagd is a term from Final Fantasy XII, it is basically a place where skystone and ultimately, vehicles don't work.
I'm thinking this would be a cool feature for Starbound, a place where electrical things won't work, albeit with a different name. Something like "Null-Zone".

Elaborate my friend! This sounds interesting. Need more to go off then that. I've never played FFXII

Interesting, a dead-zone in certain planets? Or possibly planets shrouded in a sort of EMP shield forcing the player to walk?

    Very curious~

When you die in the Jagd, there chould be some sort of penalty (think FFTA) e.g. dropping of items on death

    As you wish.

Basically, some planets will have a dead zone, where electric vehicles, weapons, or other stuff will be unusable.
When you're on an organic mount you're good to go, however.
This can be caused by high levels of magnetic force on some parts of the planet. (Or you know, something like that.)
When you ride, say a hoverbike or walker there, your vehicle begins to spew some of those fire things when computers go haywire. (Don't know the term for it, sparks?)
This is a signal you should leave the vehicle there, before it stops working altogether and you'd have to push it out of the Jagd.
Electrical weapons you can carry in, but it won't do anything. (Or maybe haywire? Sparks and nothing comes out.)
Turrets, Tesla Grenades, All that good stuff won't be able to function. Melee weapons should still work, though, as the 'Magnetic force' would only effect electricity.
    Hope this helps. :)

EDIT: Oh, and you can't land on the Jagd, Flying vehicles would be forced to land, but Terraforming UFO's shouldn't be affected.

Planets close to a star going supernova are said to cause fluctuation in planets magnetic fields.

    Yeah, that could work! :)

    Here's in-game knowledge on Jagd.

    Sage Lore #38
"Regions of Mist-laden winds and magicite-rich soil, precluding the proper operation of skystone. Shifts in weather have been known to make jagd where once there was none, though the reverse has never been recorded by the chroniclers of such things. As airships cannot operate in jagd, no such region is under the control of a major country, making the jagds lawless, perilous places."

Basically you want a logical way to limit the use of vehicles in certain situations?

    That's the plan.
If you had an aircraft, things like exploring might get a bit too easy. This also produces some challenges, limiting some ranged weapons.
Plus, walking on foot is healthier for you, and the environment.

xD That'd be unfortunate to be in an airplane and hit the dead-zone then crash to the ground.

Mmmh, maybe spew sparks like I said, and slowly land. If you don't get out of there in time, you're aircraft would have to be pushed out or something.
Crashing would be very unfortunate indeed.

    Maybe a towing item?

Or have to be broken down into pieces to be carried. since any electronic tows wouldn't work in the dead zone

    Good point.
