    Hi everyone.

I was exploring Starbounder for information about the backer items, and saw this :

    http://starbounder.org/Imagination_Memorial

I found this incredibly touching and it made me emotional.

I'd really like to know more about it, and the real life story behind it.

    Thanks.

Sadly I'm unaware what was the real life story behind this, beyond the obvious parts :(

Could be, but personally I considered this private enough to not exactly research it. It felt more like a sort of personal homage than a request for publicity I felt :/

Oh well. Facts are facts. They put it in a game that will be played by thousands. It was bound to be brought up eventually.

I apologize if this was seen as disrespectful. I meant nothing disrespectful with this.

I just found it incredibly touching, and I want to know a little bit more about the person its honoring.

I was mostly replying to folks who directly tried to dig out the person's obituary, personally <.<

    Yeah, i understand that.

That was not really what i was hoping to find with this thread. I want to understand the meaning better.

I'm not sure how to explain adequately, the best i can say i'd like to know more so i can properly respect this and the meaning behind it.

Personally I think the meaning of the monument is very simple: An homage to a person important in the life of the person who asked for it's creation, and whom likely believe that person played a big part in the development of their imagination.

I had a similar relationship with my own grandfather. He was a man who mainly worked in the construction industry as a plumber and pipefitter all his life, including the construction of Quebec's biggest electricity dam projects where he worked as a foreman. He wasn't the person who one would expect thus to be very intellectual... yet had learned many of the words of languages spoken by foreign co-workers who worked alongside and under him(He was notably fond of telling how he was able to count words in german and Italian, among other words). Unlike my other grandfather who was known for being of little words, he was the one who constantly wrote letters to my grandmother when he was away with work. Or passed the time in the worker camps by doing what might have been crochet "painting", literally knitting a canvas depicting various scenes to pass time back when televisions weren't super common in the workers' lodging and well before the internet became as common as it is today.
And to his grandchildren he would always have many tall tales to specifically help us cultivate our own imagination, such as when he claimed a scar he had on his chest was from a bullet playing on the set of a cowboy movie.... rather than an accident at work falling down an unmarked pit and stabbing himself on one of the steel bars down there(a shard of which had actually remained within his muscles under the skin). And I could go on about other such stories relating to him.

This is a bit of personal history from me, but I just wanted to state that as an example that there's a lot of ways a person might have felt like asking for such a memorial to "imagination" to honor somebody they lost.

The other backers decorative items that I am aware of are:

    http://starbounder.org/XOliver137_Statue
    http://starbounder.org/Cameron_York_Statue
    http://starbounder.org/Benjamin_Deust_Statue

Though the Imagination Memorial really stand out when comparing to the others. Not hard to find them (on the wikia I mean) as they are the only legendary decorative items that are under the valuable category beside a few other exceptions:

http://starbounder.org/Derrick_Statue - Very special item that was made due to a forum thread.
    http://starbounder.org/GeorgeV_Dev_Statue - Statue of a dev.
http://starbounder.org/Champion's_Trophy - Can only be obtain from doing an endgame quest and even then only once per character.
http://starbounder.org/Venus_de_Pixel - Require many other statues to make.
http://starbounder.org/Self-Portrait_of_Hylotl-Shu - I believe you see this during a mission though of course you can never obtain it legit.

I guess a person simply didn't want to show off a pixel version of themselves and instead request for something else in its place.
