A while ago, I completed a long quest line revolving around the discovery of ancient artifacts called Heartstones. These devices possess the power to terraform dead worlds in a matter of minutes. The quest line comprises four parts. To view details on each part, click the blue titles below. The Garden of Eden The player travels to a small, undeveloped world overflowing with abundant life. There they encounter Professor Jaime, a scientist who believes that this world should not be able to support life. He offers a reward if you will help him solve the mystery and find out what is maintaining the environment. Deep digging reveals lines of energy, which lead to a glowing crystal called the Heartstone. However taking it causes the planet's environment to degenerate, threatening all life on the surface. If you return without the Heartstone, you will have to fight a group of soldiers in dark armour to get back and report your findings. To complete this quest, you must either retrieve the Heartstone or simply tell Jaime what you have discovered and let him scan the Heartstone himself. After completing this quest, you may allow Professor Jaime to set up a lab on your space station when you want to continue the quest line. The Power of Life Professor Jaime has discovered the location of several more Heartstones and wants you to take some more scans for his research. However, the next Heartstone you try to examine is protected by subterranean defenses, and getting the scan data is not easy. You must penetrate an underground barrier, evade or destroy several traps and bypass or destroy a fearsome defense system protecting the Heartstone itself. On the plus side, there is an ancient computer bank there containing coded data on an ancient facility. Leaving the planet proves tricky, as dark soldiers break through the underground barrier and set off several traps, causing the security systems to activate. This leaves you fighting and dodging your way through the chaos as you make your escape. Whether you leave with the scans or the Heartstone itself, you gain valuable information. However, it is now painfully clear that you and Jaime are not the only ones interested in the Heartstones... The Power of Death Your next goal in this quest line is an ancient research facility belonging to a seemingly extinct alien race. The facility was used to develope the Heartstone technology and contains valuable information about how and why they were created. However, the facility is well protected by automated defenses and getting in is not easy. But that is only the beginning of your problems... Soon after penetrating the central lab and retrieving the data from the computer banks, the dark soldiers make their move, closing in and capturing you. You are brought to their mothership, where you must find a way to escape your cell and confront the insane leader of the dark soldiers, the Night Lord. Only by killing the Night Lord can you retrieve your stolen data and escape back to base. Once you have made your escape, you will find that you have aquired a gold mine of information, but that there might be less-than-virtuous uses for the Heartstones. Power at a Price The dark soldiers and their leader have been dealt with, but what now? You have learned the location of two ancient space stations; the Golden Foundry, where the Heartstones were manufactured, and the Dark Star, specifically designed to convert the Heartstones into a powerful weapon. It is now up to you to decide what to do with this information. You may choose to serve the greater good, by destroying the Dark Star and activating the Golden Foundry, allowing you to bring life to the farthest reaches of space. You may choose to serve yourself by stealing Heartstones from inhabited worlds and fusing them in the Dark Star (manufacturing them takes a long time, after all) to make you into a super-being. You could serve the cause of science, by making the stations safe and giving them over to Professor Jaime's control, allowing him to finally unlock the secrets of Heartstone technology. Alternatively, you could end this millenia-old project to tamper with nature by destroying both stations. Finally, you could choose to build the super-weapon without destroying worlds, but this will require you to defend the space stations and Heartstone-powered worlds from invasion by a new enemy, called Infernal. Regardless of your final decision, the rewards for completing this quest are great, although this is likely to be one of the toughest quests you will ever have to complete. Great power comes at a price, after all. Although links to threads about the individual quests are provided here, please post all comments on the quest line here, to save on space in the forum lists. All comments, positive or negative, are welcome.
I loved all these quests, vary well thought out and I think you should make a story out of this thing!
Wow. You've put a ridiculous amount of thought into this, would love to see something this intricate in the final game. Even if it isn't, I do hope you start a project to make it a mod for the game.
Great work, you've put a lot of thought and effort into this and I would love to see this in-game.
I'd like to see this in the game as well, because it is such good work and I'd hate to see it go to waste.
This is possibly my absolute favourite of the sidequests I've seen so far. This quite honestly deserves to be in the game.
this may be one of the most universly (or multi-universly)(i cant type universe with ly) liked quest suggestions ever
