Haha all the feels, on topic I seriously don't think there should be guns from anime, I do however think using some as a framework would be cool.

Not exactly. The first prototype of the Thompson-MP was build in 1918/1919. The weapon that became the famous "Tommygun" was the Thompson M1928 (as the name suggests it was developed 1928).
So- no rapidfire cowboys - sorry. But from the stylistic point of view, a cowboy with a M1928 would be totally awesome.

Also related to topic, something like a lasso would probably be a wee bit too primitive even if it was something like:
SPACE Lasso.
LASER Lasso.
LASER SPACE Lasso.
So probably something something cheap rifle that has some cool 'sling over back' idle animation.
Laser revolver idle spinny holster animation would be cool too.

They should have a rifle to start with. Or even a (slug round) shotgun. Pistols were relatively expensive back then and less useful. Every kid and his dog knew how to use a rifle, but pistols didn't have the range needed for any real engagement. There is a reason the American Civil War soldiers were using rifles and not pistols!

Also, on a completely un-history-related note, how would the technologically impaired Novakid get lasers?

 

They're not actually technologically impaired really.
Lasers would probably be rediscovered pretty quickly if that's what you mean.

 

They are still hovering around the 1850's lore-wise, and I don't see how they could advance to laser weapons from there in just one generation.

I remember seeing a gun sprite that reminded me a lot of Malcolm Reynolds revolver from firefly .
