I have been working on this for a while now. please, tell me what you think. Also, the info in the spoiler tags is my first draft of this, its just thereto explain how the monster would work with game mechanics. Creature/monster name: Adult Goo mimicThis monster is a monster made out of goo that mimics the opposite gender of any species it encounters. It does this as a defense against potential predators as well as a way to show its neutral nature. If encounters two or more creatures it will take on the form of the more powerful creature. It does this because it prefers to avoid combat. It takes hundreds of years for a goo mimic to reach its adult state. This creature has human like intellect and is able to communicate fairly well after only hearing one or two words being spoken. Despite its non-hostile nature, it can be extremely deadly. it can mimic weaponry and shields extremely well, as well as armor. Also its body is made of a liquid diamond like goo that can withstand an astounding amount of damage. This monster dwells in the deepest depths of the planet it is found on. Said planet would be of a VERY high threat level with many deadly monsters, poisonous air, lava pools, large deposits of highly volatile and explosive materials, even the plants would be hostile. If you are attacked while in the line of sight of the goo mimic it will become friendly and come to your aid if you happen to have some of the crystals in your inventory.Warning, it will become neutral after the enemy monster has been dealt with and can be attacked so be careful that you don't accidentally hit it.This monster moves about its environment, eating crystals that slowly liquify in its body. these crystals both strengthen and heal it... and can be used to revive the goo mimic should it meet an untimely demise.Being that you would be able to communicate with this monster in the game, you would be able to recruit it after preforming a set of quests for it, effectively making it a recruit able double of you, weapons and all. Said quest line would be on threat level 100 planets of course. Attacking it would be... unwise as it would be amazingly difficult to kill as well as being able to morph its arms into any weapon or shield you have, as well as your armor and it will change it depending on what you equip yourself with on the fly.It is Highly mobile and able to slip into the smallest of cracks to hide or escape as well as being able to slip its way along walls and ceilings easily and quickly. It would be able to swim and fly as well by simply morphing the appropriate body parts it would require. It would keep a "memory" of each creature it has transformed into. Monster: Adolescent Goo MimicThese Goo mimics are the second stage of development of a goo mimic. They are MUCH weaker than an adult goo mimic both in power and defense and move much slower and are unable to mimic other creatures very well, looking more like a mockery of what they are mimicking. They also have limited intelligence and are unable to speak languages, but can make basic animal noises. If they encounter something much more powerful then they are they will run away and hide rather than attempting to mimic it.Monster: Proto Goo mimicThis is the initial development stage of a goo mimic. It is unable to mimic any living thing and moves fairly slowly and usually stays hidden from view, munching away at glowing crystals. It is extremely weak and defenseless but can hide very well by making itself look like a small block of stone or dirt. Its intelligence level is very low. __________________________________________________________________________________Accessing files.....Password required: *****................Password Accepted. Welcome back Lance.__________________________________________________________________________________ Research Log 20V9: June 13thThis is the research log of Lance Xion, Head scientist aboard the SS. St Alice. Working aboard this ship has been a nightmare since HQ has loaded us up with a bunch of hotshot newbies. I swear... the scientists working under me barely know how to open the doors on this ship, let alone conduct research or experiments. Regardless of this... annoying fact we are currently traveling to one of the newest planets our scout ships have found. Its so new that the threat level has not been assessed yet. We are being sent in to determine the threat level and if it would be a viable planet to ether mine, or conduct research on. I hope i can whip my team into shape before we reach the planet. End of Log. June 22ndThis is the research log of Lance Xion, Head scientist aboard the SS. St Alice. We have arrived and are currently in orbit around the planet. Most of our scout drones have been destroyed by the various fauna and flora that inhabit the planet, and the very air is acidic and poisonous. this also includes the water. There are also open pools of lava that dot the planets surface. Most of the mining droids that managed to make it underground exploded. It seems even the mineral deposits on this planet are dangerous. surprisingly enough a few of the mining droids have made it back to the ship with some interesting blue, glowing crystals as well as some soil samples. I caught one of my subordinates handling the blue crystal with his bare hands... where did HQ find these idiots? Anyway he is currently in quarantine along with the mining droids till we can find out what these crystals are. End of log. June 30thThis is the research log of Lance Xion, Head scientist aboard the SS. St Alice. It Appears that HQ has ordered us to set up a research station on the planet since we have found that the crystal we have found is composed of diamond with luminescent properties and large traces of Iridium. Scans of the planet show that The entire planet is chock full of them. But the planet itself has a threat level of 100. That is why we have called in some heavy equipment from HQ, Mechs and the like. As for my subordinate who handled the crystals bare handed... hes fine. It appears that the luminescence of the crystals was not caused by radiation as originally thought. End of log. July 10thThis.... this is the research log of Lance Xion, Head scientist aboard the SS. St Alice.Everything was going as planned. The mining operations were in full swing and we had caught and cataloged much of the flora and fauna. Then we found... them. The goo mimics as I've taken to calling them. We first found the smallest variety, they were surprising harmless and after some tests we found that they ingest these crystals we were mining, and could mimic whatever nonliving thing it encountered with surprising accuracy. Then our miners met its big brother, the adolescent goo mimics. The encounter didn't end well and we lost a few personnel as one of them attacked the mimic. Despite this we simply equipped the mining mechs with weaponry and specimen containers and continued our work. Only a day ago.... We encountered an adult goo mimic. It spoke, saying it didn't appreciate the fact that we were stealing its friends and all of its food. I was off planet at that time, giving my progress report to HQ. If i wasn't here on the ship i would have died with everyone else who was planet side. Turns out someone was stupid enough to shoot at the adult goo mimic, after that it was all over... I formally request that we discontinue mining operations on this planet and forget it ever existed. That creature down there... even our most well armored equipment was torn to shreds, and our most powerful weapons only served to anger it more and more. We have no chance to defeat it.You want proof? Just read through my research logs on these creatures. __________________________________________________________________________________Searching log...3 Entries found for "Goo Mimic"Display files? O MA GOD! I FOUND THE TRUE MEANING OF WIN! Jk. I really think this should be added, maybe you cloud find these documents inside a abandoned port, so newbies would get a back story. That is all.
This. is cool. And you know what else is cool? The first three suggestions on this board are gel, goo, or slime based. And you know what else is weird? Now that im posting here, all three of the creators of those ideas have commented on this suggestion. Including Darkrunes actual thread. Derpderpderp.
I read it all, and I must say, though impossible to add to the game because of the far too complicated AI and the endless mimicing possibilities (especially the combinations would be really hard to add), this idea would be so AWSM! XD I love how you did this and I would love to see it in-game. Maybe you could make some sprites/drawings of some goo mimics, probably the younger goo mimics.
While the AI might be a bit on the complicated side, the endless mimicing possibilities would be possible since all of the monsters are going to be procedurally generated in the game anyway. it just depends on if the generation system can do it on the fly. as for making drawings/sprites... i have the drawing skills of a ten year old. I don't want to taint this idea with my half thought out scribbles >.<.
Actually..... The AI for the little ones is simply the goo/gel/slime from terraria with a "go away from player if attacked or if player swings" maybe some evasive methods which are what would be complicated. The AI for the adolescent is again not that hard, same AI except that they fight back if they are attacked or feel threatened. probably have some sort of basic combat "form" which they mimic, something that is common on the planet (other than them), or maybe they just mimic you, only not nearly as effectively. The AI for the adult is a bit more complicated, the way I see it they attempt communication if you are "attacking" the ground, if you don't respond or respond negatively they attack, if you respond positively they leave you alone. They would probably be much larger than you and would probably have a basic "form" for fighting as well or again, mimic you, only really well. The mimicing can be done by getting all the mobs that are in the area (or inanimate objects for the little ones) and have them pick the one with the highest damage output/armor value based on their "attitude" and just copy it's form. I dunno, yes it's a bit complicated, but it's not "far too complicated" and the "mimicing possibilities" are limited by whats around, or things that it would commonly come into contact with (say things with <50% chance of spawning). I very much so simplified the AI down, there's a lot of math in that (especially for evasive maneuvering) and some more than irritating coding, but again, it's not "far too complicated" And NO I'm not ripping on anyone! I just re read that and realized how directly pointed it was! I was trying to point out that it's not as bad as you think. I do agree that it would be total awesome to have in game, but they have a lot of awesome things from fans, and I'm sure they have their own awesome ideas.
