I like the idea of the rare gens swinging to both sides of the spectrum. Your right though, it shouldn't be a static, hard code. That would void the fun out of finding them! Maybe it could be coded as a random replacement for other coordinates in the game, so that way the coordinates aren't static. When you create a new world file, the game will randomly pick a coordinate that will be generated and changes it to an Eden/Barren system template, where it only has 1-2 planets and they have the qualities of said system.
I like the effect that you're describing but, I don't think a system like what you detailed would be entirely necessary to achieve it. time and again the random number generators put together things people never thought of in ways we never imagined. with the sheer vastness of SB's universes it's simply an inevitability that these worlds will be generated. I would hate for people to think, "oh, I got to go find THE eden world, I know it was generated somewhere" but rather, "I'm going to search for the most eden-like planet I can find and perhaps stumble across something I didn't know I was looking for."
By far, my favorite idea for Starbound yet. I joined just to ask about ship flight times and orbital paths, but this is an amazing idea! Definitely want to keep this thread active so the devs can see!
Oh, I didn't really realize that! I'm not that good at understanding some of the code stuff with procedural generation. You make a pretty good point there. I get what your saying, I probably would rather think like the second one, too.
Got a soft spot for the hard-science stuff. Imagine, you're on your first planet and you horde so much crap loot that your starter ship's engines no longer have enough thrust to get all that mass up to escape velocity to break orbit. haha that'd definitely irk a lot of people but, I would be delighted :]
I very much like this idea. It would make playing the game a lot more about exploration, because everything wouldn't be on one planet.
This would be PERFECT, and also gives room for as infinite as the devs imagination to create all sort of "hazards", "boons" and "anomalies". Also while the earlier sectors will have mostly green attributes, they are less likely to have any modifiers either, so you want to go to other sectors to be able to find more anomalies (good or bad)
I'm pretty sure you just smashed everything I want from starbound into here. EDIT: Well I do want some creature changes (hintmakingthreadsoonhint). EDIT2: Also just a suggestion: Have all of those appear blank and fill in as you discover them. Like once you mine an ore there you get the minerals value. Once you jump you get the gravity one. Etc. Possibly then there could be a planet scanner thing on your ship later game.
Oh. My. God. YES!! All of these ideas could add SO much variety and replay value to Starbound! Hire this guy Chucklefish!
I signed up on this forum just to put my name in support of this. If this isn't what Starbound ends up as, I'll not be playing it any further afterwards.
'scanners' and changes to the stellar map have been suggested here: http://community.playstarbound.com/...scanners-and-something-starting-with-s.48517/ http://community.playstarbound.com/...canner-range-charted-uncharted-planets.50319/
I've been lurking for a while and I made an account just to support this! This guy should be part of the Chucklefish team!
Sounds excellent, I certainly hope they implement this or something similar eventually. It would definitely make exploring a lot more interesting and rewarding, and each planet would pose unique challenges for the player to overcome. Keep up the good work
I love the detail on how you explained the potential hazards of the biomes, I would love to see this!
