Please stop acting like a jerk, thanks. Oh and if you read a little, you can see it's what the vast majority wants.
I very much agree with this wholeheartedly. It would give the game some serious diversity in which I think the game would benefit from. That said the Devs could be making something like this already and we only just have a inkling of what is to come. In the event the game is less of what we expected, I would be willing, as many others I'm sure. to help fund a few modders to make this a reality once the game is fully out. Watching this thread looking forward to see how it develops.
I think it is pretty hard to find anyone that doesn't want what he wants.... Sometimes, when you're right, you're just right. OP has no need to apologize for his accurate statement.
Don't feed the troll, guys. You can see from his profile page that he just goes around looking for threads to bash. In other words, his opinion is basically worthless.
After skimming the post I've come to the conclusion this is a really nice idea. Most specifically the added complexity. More complexity in fun ways (like the ones presented) = good. I came here expecting a "THIS GAME IS TOO HARD " thread, was surprised. I guess I'm just scarred from the Minecraft community. I'd like to mention that a lot of the time the player has no idea what they really want, they THINK they want an easier game, when in reality that will just make the game boring for them, I hope very much that the developers do not make rash decisions based on the "ITZ 2 HARD" people, no matter how many of them there are, they are wrong, diverse levels of difficulty are the way to go.
This is a great thread. I like the OP's concepts, and would love to see them fleshed out in the final version. I would definitely love to see: 1) Scanner system to scan a planet 2) The other things mentioned in the OP, they're all excellent ideas 3) Ability to choose the location you teleport down to on the planet Obviously this would all require balancing, and could most certainly be limited by advancement, but they should eventually be possible.
I'd like to see a more fleshed out combat system. Multiple hit combo chains or charge up attacks, parry system when two attacks with weapons are done at the same time, or situational attacks like jump to heavy down slash or back-step slash or counterattack. maybe a heavy strike with two-handed weapons when you click the right mouse button? Don't get me wrong, I like the combat, but I just want something more in-depth that makes me want to think about how i should deal with a hostile mob or an enemy. Since, most of the time you can just run around and spam the hit button running across the landscape and you can just come out unscathed. Just a personal opinion.
I was just going to suggest something similar, though not with nearly the detail of this. This really is what we want. The only real difference would be that I'd tie it into progression. Rather then the hideous tier system you have to brave the more lethal systems for stronger materials. So instead of a starmap you'd be making your first environment suit. Then with the nicer gear you'll be able to go back to the more pleasant worlds and raid their dungeons for further progression with new blueprints and tech to brave even more lethal worlds with even better crap.
Slightly off topic, but the devs did mention adding a stance system recently. It's in the game already, they just have to implement the new combat mechanics to go with it. I think we should actually be seeing a bit more combat depth fairly soon. (I am saying this as Steam updates Starbound for me, in fact.)
These ideas are fantastic. I had some similar suggestions brewing in my head, but man, these are even better. I'd like to share my thoughts on each of your suggestions: Planet Biosphere: Awesome idea. Hostile environments are something you could expect to see every now and then while visiting different planets. These would add fun (in my opinion, as always, fun is subjective) new planet types forcing you to adapt to survive on them. Planet Gravity: Another fun idea. I'm not a fan of having the gravity affect mining speeds though. In this particular case, I think simplicity is best. Planet Fauna: Also great. Varying amounts of creatures would make each planet more unique and memorable. This could also describe how dangerous the creatures are. "Gentle" could be a descriptor for low level creatures while "Aggressive" can describe higher level creature with more damage. Doing this, the entire sector system could be removed (I dislike the sector system and its linear progression). Planet Flora: Not too much to say on this except that I think it's an awesome idea. More diversity is always good. Variety is the spice of life and all that stuff. Planet Minerals: The only one so far that I'm not sure about. It could depend on how it gets implemented, if at all, but having some planets contain noticeably more minerals than others would give players an incentive to only visit those particular planets. I think players should want a reason to visit every planet. Planet Hazards: Great. I wish it was in the game, so long as they're somewhat uncommon. Planet Boons: Fun idea, but it could pose the same problem as the mineral randomization. Planet Anomalies: Fantastic. Gives players a reason to explore a planet and adds some RPG elements. Synergy: Maybe. It could make things unnecessarily complicated. Racial Bonuses: Not sure. I can see both sides here. It would be interesting to have each race excel at different things, but at the same time I can also see the appeal of having your race be a purely cosmetic thing - just like choosing between male and female. This can also come back to over-complication. It would further complicate things, but would it be worth it? It might be better to not do this one. Overall, I love these suggestions. I really hope most of these make it into the game. Now that I know what Starbound has the potential to be, I almost don't want to play the current iteration anymore. Great ideas and great write-up. Other points: - Needing to construct a scanner addon for your ship before being able to see these details could be lots of fun. There's a lot of potential for ship upgrades. - Moving away from the rigid sector system can only be good! (in my opinion, of course)
