Mmmm, I can just imagine it. I'd say they'd add these little things in as the development progresses; Starbound is all about atmosphere after all. (Animated backgrounds too plz)
Little aesthetic details that added to the environment? Yes please. They could always add options to tweak details like falling leaves and the like (for slower computers and the like).
Definitely liking this idea. The smallest details like this can really help to set the mood for a place. Bugs crawling about on occasion, water dripping, pulsing walls in the case of say..a living planet? Hanging wires in wrecked stations even in the background that spark on occasion. All of it. Even as far back as super metroid I remember the best 2d games always having these little things and it was awesome. Course I'm sure their art guys are thinking of this already The best ones always like to add little details later on down the line.
I like that idea, but there should be options that turn all that lively stuff off. I don't mean that I don't like those things, but they could be a little problem for not-so-amazing computers.
Very good suggestion! I'm not sure if adding more actors would be an issue for multiplayer optimization, but as this sounds entirely cosmetic it could be handles purely on the client side. Still, a solid idea that should very much be implemented.
The idea of this post is pretty much all about improving the ambiance. Well with the background animals and stuff, and things with none/little atmosphere there really couldn't be much of an existence of most things. Like with moon biome planets, there should be kind of a feel of lifelessness or lack of these ambient effects we are coming up with. And with the ambient background birds and things. The sounds and background animals should be taken from the native life on the planet. Also just got an idea. I think planets with a lot of surface bone block should have a higher abundance of mini boss monsters. So it somewhat gives a reason for all the bones.
Agreed, this small change would definitely make the game feel a lot more alive and interesting. Living ambiance as opposed to a static world. If I stand still the game itself almost looks like a screenshot.
This isn't actually a "small" suggestion, particle engines do take up a decent amount of time to program into a game. However, there is no reason to say no to this. This is a good idea, and it will make the game look prettier. Go at it, guys and gals at Chucklefish! As per performance issues: Just have an option to turn those particles off. ... P.S. - I thought the topic was about the game containing gratuitous amounts of soap. ._. (Which I was confused about.)
That would make it good but it will take a while before they do this and even longer before it comes to the game (if ever)
I can see this being added further down the line, but it does need something like this to make the world feel a little less static. Spiderwebs, dust/dirt falling, and lava cracks in the walls deep down, things like that. I also agree with idle animations! Even if they're subtle, it just adds some extra life to things.
