I don't like the idea very much. It could be a placeholder. I'd rather upgrade my spaceship in size, so I can have more rooms for all the stuff i need and crew.

The idea is atually sound. Maybe being able to teleport to the other side of the galaxy doesn't look so appealing (even though I might have to disagree) to some, but it is a necessary game mechanic, for now. It gives a purpose to planet bases.
You could think of it as a "teleport beacon" you can place in a particular spot, and only one. After all they did something like this in the last Star Trek movie too, so I don't see why this can't make sense in Starbound.

    they're doing it all wrong.
    simple:
    have bookmark system for planets
have planet travel history as well.
    set home planet
set tags for planets so you know which is which.
    change beam point for planets
make warp pads to be able to beam to specific locations above ground, such as your home

    thats what we need.

check out some of the spaceship mods people have made. they're incredible. we need that too.
but guys remember, they gave us the highest tier ships for now. we'll get more ship options later. hopefully they give us bigger ships than our current highest tier ones.

This could also be a simple place holder and doing book mark/tag system may be more complicated.

It's a nice idea, but it should at least require you to build a mildly expensive and technologically advanced device in your base as a receiver, which could, as a happy coincidence act as a way to set your spawn.

Having it as a mid game craftable item you can place on the planet you wish to teleport to could be an option.

I kinda wish they'd just make it not cost so much fuel to jump between planets, but at least home bases make any sense now.

Can't say I'm a fan of it. It looks cool but imagine having to see that screen pop up every time you tele..novelty would wear out after the 40th time. Also what if I misclick? Now I'm back at my uberworld instead of spelunking for minerals, and I forgot the coords because I'm a baddie and didn't write them down. Why not just have a seperate teleport pad, maybe green colored, that has one part on your ship, and one part on your homeworld that tele's you directly to your base? No fuss, no muss, could be included in tier progression or a quest. Would give more flexibility to player and I think it'd be a better solution. Having to hit "E" then click your planet choice and hope you got the right one versus using the main tele for planet trips and a home pad to go to your base.

*This would also solve the requests for adventuring beacons that let you beam up to your ship to store or craft and then return to the planet where you left off. Have a seperate teleport for a homebase thats linked to your ship, and a crafted, consumable, teleport pair that functions kind of like a town portal in AARPGs? You lay a pad down and beam to your ship, can return down but the pad is consumed in the process?

*Could also have base teleport pad work off a seperate fuel system? Maybe uranium rods? It's a better solution than a cooldown timer and serves as a sink for some fuel later on. Or maybe Dev's will introduce a precursor energy source for crafting firearms than could be tossed to power the telepad. Just hashing out ideas in my head.

They think it's the wrong way toward a solution

But that working toward a solution at all is the right direction.

(You can take a left turn and still be heading the right general direction but have taken the wrong way to get there)

Nope. This makes your ship useless. If you can teleport from Sector X to A, then why not from planet A to Z and skip the ship all together. Those complaining about fuel I don't get. I have so much fuel that I cannot conceive of running out. Coal is abundant in the early game and so is wood. (Moons FTW for coal). Later uranium, plutonium and Solarium are so common you dig out hundreds by accident while mining other ores. I think it should stay as is or the ship should be done away with altogether. I don't think a ship would have any point with this besides being a teleport stop over.

Your ship is useless if you only plan to stay on your homeworld and the planet your ship is currently stationed. If you want to go out and explore multiple planets you'll need the ship. It's not like you can just skip all of the sectors from the outset using this feature, as you'll also need the ship to collect the resources to get the starmap upgrades.

Not necessarily. If you move all the functionality of the ship's navigation to a mobile peaceable station then it would work just the same. Don't get me wrong. I love my starship and I still have a base. I love the jump sequence. This is why I vote Nay. The starship needs more face time instead of less imho.

This is a bad idea, its just adding fuel to the fire of complacency.
System should be made to remember planets you wish to remember - not some patch work quick teleport.

Agreed. Why not rather just remove fuel. Make it so that tier 1 is collecting parts for the ship and then it's free travel besides the starmap upgrades. Then we can zip around freely without worry. Honestly I'd be fine with that. Without a starship this game just becomes Groundbound. Personally I like a bit of grind.

I wouldn't go that far. Being able to teleport back to a single anchored point is a far cry from being able to beam ourselves anywhere we want. That's why I think the function works fine. When you set a planet as "Home" just considerate it a two way wormhole to your ship and the other end of the portal. The "beam down to planet" is a little different, as it's not a teleport, but a beam straight down from your ship to a surface. Less a wormhole and more like the a "straw". To me that's reasonable. You can teleport to ONE fixed location, or beam down to the surface of whatever your current ship hovers over. I don't think it's too "easy" to have two options.

I'd love it to stay the same. I'd much much much rather there as many reasons as possible to settle a home planet, build it up, and not abandon it than deal with any lack of logic of being able to teleport back there.
